Room is spacious but just anticipated most services have an add on charges. Staff not very responsive and didn't pick up the phone. Surprised to find that no one on duty at almost 9am at concierge. Wall is thin and could literally hear the conversations of the room next door. Limited choice of food for room services and delayed delivery. Great thing is the location and have direct access to the beach. With this price I would expect better services.
Booked a 3D2N between 29 and 31 July to celebrate three birthdays in one go. I was expecting this relatively ‘aging’ hotel to have outdated decor everywhere, but I was so wrong. The overall architecture and interior still stand the test of time, and everything that can be refurbished has been refurbished. The lobby was both grand and exotic, spacious and tropical-like at the same time. The coconut and palm trees in the surrounding make it feel very much like a Thai resort/hotel. The Premier Seaview Room with Balcony is so roomy that it could fit at least four single bed, so there is room for even running round. The balcony is great for sunset appreciation. There was a slight problem with the bathtub drain stopper as it could not open to drain the water, but a spoon did the job. BTW, this is so far the only hotel I have visited that has a fridge that works properly. Dinner buffet was a pleasant surprise. Apart from the usual seafood that most hotel buffets offer, Café Lagoon has many nostalgic local Hong Kong snacks and desserts. Fun is not a word that usually collocates with buffet, but it does at Café Lagoon. Food quality ranged from above-average to high. Weekend dinner buffet even serves suckling pigs! Breakfast buffet at Café Lagoon also shows how logistics is carefully thought out. Other than the café itself, the nearby Chinese restaurant Yue and the lobby café area on the ground floor are also used to accommodate the patrons. Impressive! Staff were quick to clear used plates from tables and were always friendly. On day 1, we were unlucky because we only had five minutes to enjoy the outdoor pool before the thunderstorm warning was issued, but the beach was just 10m away, and we settled for some beach time as backup. On day 2, we finally truly broke the curse and had the chance to enjoy some swimming pool time (had not been able to use any swimming pools for our last 4-5 hotel staycations due to, well, thunderstorm warnings). Kids enjoyed the water slides very much, and it was great that life-jackets were available in large numbers so that parents need not worry about not bringing their own. The only thing that needs to be improved is the long waiting time to scan LeaveHomeSafe QR code before entering the pool. Outside the pool, there are also many water fun sprinklers where young children can play together. In short, there are multiple options in case of bad weather. There are also many in-hotel activities for hotel patrons. There is a children’s playroom (paid by the session with multiple keen staff safeguarding your children’s safety), a gym, some board games for free rental, large outdoor international chessboard, as well as free farm tours. There is also a large outdoor parking-meter car park right outside the hotel, the Gold Coast Piazza right beside the hotel with cafes, restaurants and a large supermarket. Simply put, one does not need to go far to gain access to everything needed. Overall, our stay in this hotel resembles a real getaway experience.…
The swimming pool is good and have take a good rest during the stay. There were many restaurants nearby along the seaside with supermarket and 7-11 too. Besides there were Chinese, Thai and buffet inside the hotel for your choose too.
GCH is an aging hotel but aging is not a problem because expected. However, from reservations to end of the journey, the experience is not pleasure. the room is not clean, soap dispenser is not friend, swimming pool water is dirty, steak house food is terrible (Fine dinner price with fast food quality) Highly NOT recommend and will not come back again. In this price range, there are many options out in the market and not necessary to come to this one. Staff services on site is okay but the reservation is a complete chaos, slow in responding emails and not keen to support.
A good place for relaxation. The breakfast is excellent. The check-out service is convenient and save a lot of time in line-up and wait at the check-out counter. Surely, will come again in the near future.
First, facilities and the room are quite clean, but a few of leaves on the swimming pool and a lot of dust on the remote. And then, service and food are excellent, the hotel upgrade my room for free to the room include terrace and the view is so beautiful. I ate Chinese food in YUE for dinner, it is very yummy and they serve me politely. Moreover, I ate buffet and their cafe, the type of the food are numerous, such as Chinese, Indian food and a variety of ham, fruit, desert, etc. And they provide some food for vegetarian and I think this is the point is better than other hotel.
The hotel is old but the environment and rooms are well maintained and properly cleaned. Guest room is clean with nice sea view but a little bit surprised to be without shower cubicle next to the bathtub. If you are coming for visit to the Gold Coast beach nearby, be careful when you choose the room type, otherwise the bath tub will be full of the sand from the beach nearby. It is not a luxury hotel so do not expect too much amenities in the room. But my request for kids amenities and step stool was nicely done at arrival. It would be more convenient if bath rope for adults and kids could also be provided. It is a nice choice if you come in a family with kids. The water park and water slide in the pool area are well managed and fun for kids. The huge outdoor garden and playground also worthy of visiting.…
The hotel contains lots of family fun activities and facilities. The children must love the theme based family room. The hotel connects with the Gold Coast beach, so it is very convenient to play at the beach. The food at satay inn is yummy and with a reasonable price.
My kids would love to be here again next holidays as there are different water activities they could join and perfect for summer holiday. As parents, we were happy for our stay too. The environment is really relaxing.
Generally very happy with our stay, the room was clean and spacious, quiet and comfy. The view was amazing day and night. Definitely recommend for families, great pool for adults and kids of all ages.
