#82 of 806 hotels in Hong Kong
Eaton HK is the physical arm of Eaton Workshop, a new global purpose-driven company and creative lab at the intersection of culture, media, hospitality, wellness, and progressive social change. With distinct parts—Hotel, House, Media, Wellness, and Impact- Eaton transcends the notion of a traditional hotel to provide a physical, digital, and analog platform to artists, activists, healers, and leaders in their pursuit of making the world a better place. Located in Jordan along the vibrant Nathan Road, a few minutes’ walk from Jordan MTR Station, Eaton HK features a newly designed lobby and guestrooms, rooftop swimming pool and yoga studio, gym and juice bar, co working club, large event spaces, screening room, art gallery, radio station, retail outpost, and a host of restaurants and bars including Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant, all-day dining floor, open terrace cocktail bar, and signature food hall. The hotel design references the romantic appeal and spiritual yearning of Wong Kar-wai’s arthouse films of the 1990s, while the cultural and musical programming provide outlets for progressive and thought-provoking ideas about human identity, equality, and communion. New Eaton rooms and suites are equipped with 40” Smart TVs with travel adapters, healing Himalayan salt lamps, built-in work desks and bath products from natural skincare brand Grown Alchemist amongst other sustainability-focused touches. From single bed studios to expansive family suites that can fit five, Eaton HK accommodates a wide variety of traveler across nine different room categories. There are 2 dynamic bars as well as 3 social and dining venues at Eaton HK. Terrible Baby is an award-winning cocktail bar with a large outdoor terrace and music room that showcases underground music talents every week, Flower Years is a local craft beer and burger bar located within Eaton Foodhall amongst nine other cult street food vendors. The Astor prepares an all-day spread of international cuisine while Yat Tung Heen is a multi-year Michelin-star restaurant serving authentic Cantonese dishes. Eaton HK offers a variety of cultural programming, including weekly wellness through yoga, sound bath meditation and tai chi classes; an eclectic mix of multi-genre live music nights at Terrible Baby, curated art exhibitions at Tomorrow Maybe, and social community events that make an impact. More than a hotel, Eaton HK is an incubator for arts and culture, a beacon for sustainability, a hub for impact initiatives, and a local connection to a global media platform.

We booked for 2 nights, having seen the pool and thinking our daughter would like the flamingos. When we arrived, all sessions for that day were fully booked (I had tried to call earlier to see if early check in was possible but no one answered). When we arrived at exactly 3pm, the queue was out the door to check in, we were advised to come back 3 hours later!!! They only had 3 people working on a 6-person check in desk. When we arrived back at 6pm, there were now only 2 people doing check in, but still a huge queue. It took over an hour to get to the front. I had booked a “spacious room” for three people. 2 adults and 1 child. They then informed me at the desk that the cost for a child’s bed was $480 a night, on top of the cost I’d already forked out for the luxury of a room that can accommodate 3 people. Very disappointed to be met with hidden costs not mentioned at the time of booking, especially after a successful staycation last week where we were given a complimentary child’s bed. We opted to go without, it was only 2 nights after all…. We didn’t realise that our air con was broken. After complaining, an engineer came to investigate and told us that, no, it wasn’t broken. In fact, it is a known fact that the “study rooms” are badly designed and the size and angle of the windows (curved across one wall) heat the room up. No amount of air con will help that. So we spent 2 sleepless nights in an overheated crowded room, barely slept. On the second day, our daughter found human nail cuttings inside the desk drawer, and used tissues under the bed. I regret that the discovery of this was too late, otherwise we may have had a room change. But needless to say, I doubt the staff would have been that apologetic or helpful even if we had alerted them to the state of the room. They were so unfazed by our air con problems, and were even less accommodating when we asked about swimming pool access. Even after our pool session was cancelled due to the thunderstorm warning, they made no effort to try book us into an alternative slot. Even though a staff member had assured me that their stupid rule of “you can’t book a second session until you’ve used your first” would not apply to us as we had a midweek booking. Of course the next day was fully booked by the time ours had been cancelled. They shrugged and said “oh well” when I told them we had been assured it would not fill up. Finally, they have this beautiful food hall downstairs called The Astor. When my partner and I called separately to ask for reservations for that night, we were both put on the waiting list. They only called me back later to say they could squeeze us in, but didn’t call my partner back. When we arrived for the all you can eat buffet dinner at 8:30 that evening, the hall was 50% empty, so they definitely could have accommodated us. We were told as we arrived that they would close the buffet at 9:30, so we spent $2k on a rushed all you can eat, that made us all feel sick because we were so rushed to get the most out of the cost. And the food was tasteless, and very underwhelming. Overall, a very disappointing experience, and quite frankly, a complete waste of money. Avoid at all costs.

The positives: Amazing rooms, very comfortable beds and a beautiful pool! Negatives: Terrible service and bad communication from staff. We booked two rooms here for a weekends staycation with check in at 5 and check out at 5 the next day. We arrived at 5pm and then had to line up for 90 minutes to check in. Not exactly a great start to the trip. When we asked about booking the restaurant, we were told to contact them directly. We called down to the restaurant several times to book our lunch only to find the phones ringing off the hook. Eventually someone answered and told us they would call us back. 3 hours later we went down to The Astor (The restaurant) ourselves because we had not heard back. The man behind the counter brushed us off and was very rude and unapologetic when we queried why we had not been called back and he basically told us that lots of people were calling so they couldn't be bothered. The next day we arrived for breakfast at 9:30 am. The line was already extremely long despite there being a number of vacant tables in the venue. We were only seated at 10am and there were still about 30 or more people in line at that point who would have only been seated well after us. Now, I am well aware that breakfast is served until 10:30 but, surely, if you can see people still waiting to be seated at that time you would extend the time a bit or at least communicate with guests 10 minutes before clearing the buffet? I had to wait 10 minutes for an egg and ended up only having one small plate at the buffet so I could have very well just ordered a MacBreakfast at that point. Clear communication would have absolutely helped clear up any frustration I was feeling at that point but I was left bitterly disappointed and the staff just shrugged it off. The only redeeming factor was the pool. Time slots were well managed and the staff were friendly and communicative. If you are looking for a relaxing stay at a well-managed establishment, perhaps consider other options.

Dear alleycat90 First of all thank you for staying with us. We much appreciate the support from the LGBTQ+ community and their allies as we are working diligently to provide a safe inclusive, welcoming and relaxing space for all. Your review hits us hard during a time where the hospitality industry is under immense pressure with closed borders and no international travel, much reduced room rates, discounts and promotions, lack of available manning and most of all intense government social distancing rules. In fact empty tables are the result of us not being allowed to use more than 50% of the restaurants capacity and breach of these rules can lead to closure. In the past year, whilst implementing social distancing measures with much reduced capacities, opening hours and even dining period closures, we had to significantly increase hygiene and safety measures, implement a vast number of additional government required processes, experienced food prices and supply being limited putting pressure on costs, room rates being much lower affecting revenues, all of which are resulting in immense pressure on people working in this industry. Whilst I do understand your disappointment and would truly like to apologise for your experience, I do hope that maybe you might be more lenient with the hotels, bars and restaurants you will choose in future, as I am sure they are trying their best amongst very difficult conditions. We are always happy to receive feedback so we can improve, but do know that public reviews like yours can be detrimental to businesses and the people who depend on it. I hope we can welcome you back sometime soon and make sure that you will enjoy your time with us a lot more. All the best and many thanks.

Fantastic view from the room. Enjoyed drinks at Terrible Baby. Food Hall at the basement was convenient for dinner without having to go out. Wide selection for breakfast buffet at the Astor. Booking required for the pool and limited to 1-hr use only but that was ok for safe distancing measures. We ended up having the pool to ourselves which was great!

Hotel business is all about hospitality. You should treat your guests well, make them feel comfortable, convenient. The front desk staffs have terrible attitude. I would replace them with machines if I am the hotel owner. If staffs cannot provide good quality services, better use machines to do the job. I have read some other guest comments here. The problem seems to exist for quite a while, but is still not fixed. So I believe the problem is at the management level.
