This place costs as much or more than some of the luxury chain brands in the city and I'm not sure why. Here is what you can expect: 1) The hotel is built into a hillside, so half the rooms have no view. The first room we were put in had no windows so it felt like a dungeon. It also smelled like old potato chips and it was above or below a metro line with loud rumbling every few minutes. 2) The other half of the rooms at the hotel have a nice view of the river and a bridge, but the hotel is built over a very hopping commercial street with bars that have nightly singers. After we moved from the dungeon room to the window room, we could hear the singing every night, clearly and loudly, until past 11pm. 3) In the evenings, some guests kept their doors open and smoked into the halls, which was gross. 4) The location: It's in a very touristy commercial district that was designed to look like an old Chinese village. Imagine main street at Disneyland or Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, i.e. very touristy and crowded. 5) Service was inconsistent. The cleaning staff were very friendly and someone at check-in noticed it was my girlfriend's birthday so they brought her a small cake. On the other hand, the people at the front desk refused to give us more than two keycards even though there were three of us and we overheard a bellhop telling someone else who had lost their keycard that they would have to pay for it.

It is one of the most popular scenic spots in Chongqing. I am lucky enough to stay in this hotel for 3 days. Most of the customers are Chinese from different provinces . This hotel are closed to two different train stations , line 2 and line 6 with approximate 7 minutes walk. You are swap to line 10 going back to airport at ease.

Stayed here for three nights with my girlfriend. Things we liked: + Location, very charmingly integrated into the Hong Ya Dong market + Amazing room. Very good standard and high quality (this is where the hotel shined the most). We stayed in a room without windows. I can imagine the rooms with windows are AMAZING! + Extremely helpful and friendly staff. We even tried the laundry service and felt they went above and beyond to make sure we got good value for our money. Things we dissliked: - They are really trying to keep this place fancy, but aren’t quite there yet. Communicating in english is not happening. - Two elevators in the entire hotel. It seems the hotel struggles with keeping non-hotel guests out of the building. Because the elevators go down to the market cave, we found that many non-guests were using these elevators as well. Also, two elevators for the entire hotel is crazy considering how many rooms there are. At one time, we couldn’t even get down to our room becuse it was so packed. Expect to wait for quite some time to get up or down this hotel. - Smoking... They allow smoking pretty much everywhere. Yuck! - Wifi only works in the reception. All in all, we are happy with the hotel. Would defenitly stay here again - hopefully with the elevator problem resolved! :)

I stayed here one night--it was a Saturday night in September (i.e., a warm night), and I think the whole city was here in this part of town, wandering around and taking in the spectacular urban/river view. There was a very large & very popular hotpot restaurant across the street (many people sitting outside, waiting for tables) and lots of other places to get something to eat. I enjoyed walking around the area although that got to be hard due to the crowds. My room had the "cave" view, not river view (I guess I didn't pay enough--fair enough), but no matter, because the lounge area by the elevator on my floor had the gorgeous river view, and I could sit there as long as I liked. (Which I didn't do--I marveled at the view while outside.) My room was spacious, clean, attractive with all the amenities. The staff didn't speak much English but put in effort to be helpful. I didn't get a chance to go to the shopping areas on other floors of this hotel, but what I did do was, next morning, walk to the 1,000-year-old Arhat Temple, sandwiched between skyscrapers, and see the 500 fantastic terracotta arhats (enlightened humans). I didn't get a chance to go to Xi'an to see the terracotta warriors, so I was especially thrilled to see these. I could go again and again--plenty here to see for a student of human nature!

The Hongyadong hotel is a pretty decent hotel that is located in a superb location. You check in on the top floor (11th) and all of the guest rooms are located in the lower floors as you go down the cliff towards the street. It is located above the 3rd and 4th floor Hongya cave market and allows for easy access to this fun walking around night market. It is a little noisy as it is nestled right next to the train tracks, but it didn't both us. If noise bothers you, don't worry because they provide complementary ear plugs. Breakfast is included in the fare and is okay, nothing great, but always nice to have that option.

This is my third visit to Chongqing I am determined to stay in Hongyadong Hotel despite reviews regarding some of the rooms. Since my first visit to Chongqing, I am captured by the beautiful night view along Xanxia river bank as the cruise I was in pass-by Hongyadong. The 2nd trip, I ventured into Hongyadong caves ( getting myself lost in Hongyadong maze). I discovered a hotel built in this Hongyadong fortress. Unfortunately it was fully booked. This trip, I was in Chongqing for 3 nights , stayed in Hongyadong Hotel throughout. Finally, the mystery of Hongyadong Hotel is revealed after staying here for 3 nights. Many guests mentioned that the rooms are not soundproofed. And because the rooms are not very soundproofed, my stay along Changjiang River became more alive. I could hear the train passing by in the day and chatters from the shopping street below in the day and live music in the evenings. Generally, most rooms can hear the 2 types of sounds. 1.Passing train: I am not disturbed by the, the sound to is mellow and far. Train track noise is very common in Japan especially for the hotel/houses are constructed near the train stations. ( avoid room ending with 09, 10). 2. Live music from restaurants/cafe : Dinners pay to listen to live music but I got free from my window. Nice singing, C-pop ballads from Taiwan and Hong Kong. The music stopped around 11:30pm. ( avoid room number from 40 above if you don't like music ) First night we stayed in Duplex suite A - a double storey room , there's a curvy stairway linking the living area on the 1st level to the bedroom on 2nd level. There are bathrooms on both levels. The living room is extend into a private balcony over looking Changjiang river and partial view Chaotianmen bridge. I recommend this room for family with kids as it is spacious enough for two additional single beds on the 1st level and privacy on the 2nd level. Luxury for two person stay. The next day we requested to change to a single level room as we find it troublesome to go up and down the stair. Subsequent nights we stayed in a one level suite. The configuration of the room is one living room separated from the bedroom. There is only one bathroom. The room also has the almost same view as Duplex A but no balcony . This room is near the F&B zone so we got to hear music every night. On the first night of our stay, we were quite disturbed by furniture moving sound from the room above us. The issue was resolved after our feedback to the front desk early the next morning. Later we were told that the unit above our room was a cafe. Subsequent night, we had good night sleep. The breakfast offered a variety of east meet west selection plus egg and noodle counters making breakfast of your choice. The breakfast cafe closes strictly at 10am. Structure of the hotel may not be perfectly soundproofed, interior and cleanliness are above the standards of local China hotel. Bed in the suite is comfortable the staffs were very responsive to our needs. The average response time was 10-15 minutes even late at 12 am. Nearest Subway is Line 2- Linjiang Station 500m away. Special thanks to front desk staff, Laura, Emily and Mr Tian who helped us to settle into Hongyadong Hotel.

We traveled to Chongqing as transit stayed overnight in the hotel to see some family relatives in Chongqing. The international terminal in Chongqing airport has no facility at all and we couldn't even find a luggage storage or food place to eat. We have to walk or take the shuttle bus to the internal terminal to left our luggage. The travel from airport to hotel is pretty easy, either by metro (very cheap, but over an hour) or taxi (~30min). The hotel is quite unique because it is built next the cliff and entrance is at the top floor. It is next to the river and it's very beautiful during the night, but the day view is not very great since the smog is heavy. The service in the hotel is fine. We didn't eat in the hotel since there are a lots of eating places outside, just under the hotel.

Great view, great location, with the river & market below. Close proximity to shops. Very good breakfast. Staff pleasant & useful. Rooms on the small side. Very noisy until 2 AM with night clubs nearby and overhead metro line, but still worth the experience. A taste of China. Will stay there again.

Stayed here one night. Great location, it looked onto the river. Close to Carrefour to get groceries. The room was comfortable and clean but it was quite noisy we could hear people talking until real late. Our room faced an alley. So we had no view. We ate dinner in the cafe, it took a whilst for the meal to arrive. The next morning we had breakfast in the same cafe however there was limited selection for western preferences.

stayed at this hotel as part of a tour. The rooms facing the cliff smelled and were very musty. Being so close to the cliffside mean opening the window for fresh air somewhat iffy since there was a storage shed just outside and much garbage in the area. Room was not overly clean but acceptable. Our group had 4 rooms and 3 of us had to move to other rooms because of the odors (one room reeked of kerosene). Security could be an issue as well. The hotel is in an interesting area for tourists who like to travel down to the 4th level. However many do this by simp;y walking in and using the hotel elevators. Also, because it was April, A/C was not turned on and room temp reached 26-27 degrees C. Based on our group's experience, we would not stay there again.
