Staying here was a great opportunity to be right by the wall and explore a wild and silent section. The hotel is a very special place indeed and it is highly unusual to head off into the woodland to a Manchu style hunting lodge for the night. The staff were wonderful and a pleasure to meet. Many were from the...

Perhaps this hotel was deluxe in years past but for $USD 170/night this is outrageously overpriced! The location is phenomenal - you can start your walk up to the wall directly outside the hotel. They boast a walk on the premises on their website, but once there they tell you it's too dangerous to climb. The dinner was delicious, the...

Wow! What an experience! We arrived late at night, not seeing anything on 40 minute drive from Beijing, then woke the next morning to Fantastically reach out and touch the Great Wall views. Inside the grounds of the Ranch, you have everything for a luxury getaway, with the added bonus of being able to climb onto parts of the wall!...

This could be a very nice place. It has a good location with some nice accomodation, but we really had the feeling that the owner had lost interest in the place and that proper management is needed. The good is that the Great Wall is all over the place, including in the backyard of the hotel. It is not the...

Honestly this place will be a good choice for you if you are planning on to visit the section of wall along whose streamline this place is built. The facilities and rooms are in desperate need of service and care and for the available facility they are kind of charging enormous amount. I had trouble with language and found it...

Overall, I’d say this is a good place to experience. The property is run down and needs a major update, as outdoor lights were spotty, and a clean-up of the entire facility is needed. Rooms smelled like incense, making me wonder if perhaps a good cleaning could solve whatever problem prompted the incense? The towel bar in the shower fell...

Shambhala is one of the most incredible places in the world. We loved all the small details of the cabin, the gazebo where they brought us tea while we sat and wrote in our journals and meditated. We took hikes to original portions of the wall, and did Tibetan yoga. The food was incredible, my friend and I sampled giant...

We live in Guangzhou, China and traveled to Beijing for a week. We stayed at Shambhala based on friends recommendations who live in Beijing. The gist of my review is to first agree with most of the other reviews on this review section. The exception may be the reviews that are overly harsh of the cleanliness. Although I do see...

I had read some bad reviews of this property but wanted to give it a try. We found this to be an amazing location with incredible access to a wild section of The Great Wall. It is rustic and if you are looking for great luxury and what I would call a sterile environment it is not the place for...

From the brochure/website, guests will imagine as we did a limosine pickup at the airport; in actual experience, guests will discover that an old well-worn van picks them up..Imagine an English-speaking driver; actually you get a driver who speaks no English and has no water bottles. Imagine clean rooms with clean sheets and pillowcases; actually dusty rooms with unwashed bed...
