We had a pleasant stay here in Red Lantern House. The place is very unique and China-esque. It's actually a cultural experience in a way because you get to feel how to live in a Hutong. The staff speaks relatively good English and are very helpful in all our concerns. One of the staff gave us a nice tip on...

Would definitely stay here again, there are two buildings, the main one looked really atmospheric and fun (it had the dorms in so we didn't get to stay there) instead we were round the corner in the single storey courtyard based hostel, which was clean and pretty with very helpful staff who were always available - I booked a great...

Location is nice, worthwhile discovering the surroundings and hutongs. difficult to find, facilitiies not teh best ones anymore and very basic. If you're looking for accomodation with the courtyard and loud people in your bedroom, the perfect place, otherwise there are plenty of better alternatives in Beijing now.

We stayed in a twinroom ensuite. Nice to have your own bathroom. The shower worked fine, 24hrs hot water, but you had to stand over the toilet while taking the shower.. The room was very clean, they came everyday and cleaned the room. The beds are chinese style = very hard, but you get used to it. Nice courtyard to...

We stayed at Red Lantern House for 3 nights and it was great! We had 2 rooms with private baths. Food was delicious and cheap! The people are English speaking, very nice and accomodating. The air conditioning worked perfectly especially with the hot/humid weather we had. They have tours you can book on site. Very convenient but we had a...

The hostel is based in a very interesting Hutong area, and the courtyards are a nice and quiet refuge from the busy life outside. Rooms are basic, but clean and they definately tell a story about life in the Hutongs. The always-ready-to-be-of-assistance staff is very friendly and professional with sufficient english knowledge to be able to be of great assistance....

The lobby is quiet and well furnished which make people feel very comfortable. The shared bathroom is clean and the toilet is clean in almost of time. I went to Beijing with 5 friends and we lived in a 8-people room. Therefore, we felt the room is big and neat enough for us. The wifi-internet is not fast enough. The...

I'll have to admit when my daughter (who is studying in Beijing for 6 months) suggested that we stay in a hostel for our visit, I was less than thrilled. The word "hostel" brings back some very bad, dirty memories from my college days! Thanks to lots of great reviews here on TA, and info. on Hostelworld and other hostel...

This is a charming house which was once a family mansion in one of Beijing's few remaining hutongs so you get to see how locals live and be among them...the Inn is only a few minutes walk to the local food market (which was something to see!) but also close to things like the lakes (with many restaurants) and conveniences...

we thought we would stay in a hutong for an 'authentic' beijing experience. honestly, after one night (we stayed five), we thought we could get better accommodation elsewhere for less. don't get me wrong, red lantern house wasn't bad, but it just wasn't worth the price (220 yuan per night for a twin ensuite). the room, while clean and well-heated...
