My friend and I had a wonderful one-night stay at Commune by the Great Wall. The staff provided exceptional service, and the property's room and overall atmosphere were simple and attractive. The staff arranged for us to be dropped off and picked up at the Shuiguan Great Wall, which was very convenient. However, we thought that the menu could be improved by including more continental options, as well as providing more information on the ingredients used. Additionally, having more variety in the menu would be great.

My wife and I have longed for a special occasion stay at the renouned Commune by the Great Wall. This year we finally managed to book a 2-night stay there during the Chinese Spring Festival. Upon arrival at around 2:15 pm, our room had already been upgraded and ready. When asked if there were any alternative room in other villas, the front desk staff were more than happy to help and introduce different features of the rooms. I'd like to especially recognize Coco and Linda during the check-in progress. They added greatly to the hospitality extended to us by offering free breakfast during our whole stay. The hotel complex is of state-of-the-art design and setting. The ideal location 15 minutes from Badaling Great Wall area and just 1 hour away from the city centre of Beijing makes it a unique resort. The staff are all very professional and helpful. All facilities are handy and work well. Plus extraordinary cuisine and beverage. Maybe the only improvement suggestion is better maintenance of some villas that are already 20 years old. World of Hyatt rewards points and free night awards are very valuable and convenient to redeem compared with some other hotel loyalty programs. The benefits as a Discoverist member I enjoyed during this particular stay was certainly beyond expectation, especially in regard to the free breakfast and room upgrade.

The hotel manager and staff believe that it is “too dangerous” to hike the path on-property to a private / secluded section of The Great Wall, so they don’t tell guests about it. When pressed by a native speaker (not us, but we had hired a guide) they admitted that there is path, but discourage visiting The Great Wall on-property because the path is too dangerous. (It is rough and rocky and relatively steep in some places, but my 60 year old wife accomplished it with a torn ACL so how bad can it really be? We were glad we did it, but without that experience this was a well-below par hotel experience.

For my getaway with friends I chose the Red House built with the Cantilever design and the Bamboo House where even the ceiling is lined in bamboo and the bedrooms are set up in lovely tatami style. Tasteful designs, comfortable beds, spectacular views, inviting sitting areas with bowls of fruit greeted us on arrival. Though the kitchens are simple, you can request items you might need during your visit. The hotel staff were warm, friendly and responsive to our needs and breakfast was full of many delicious options for my friends' varied tastes. When you take into account spaciousness, location, and quality, this is worth the price.

The hotel looks ver fancy and modern, but is already broken in lots areas after a few years. The reception staff is unbelievable slow, rooms just were cleaned and ready to get in at 4pm. Coffee took ages and tasted bad. The sports hall with a badminton field and the delicious breakfast were very positive.

An amazing property to stay at, one of the key draws for us was the private access to a secluded part of the Great Wall which access is on the hotel grounds. Keep in mind though access is not managed by the hotel so there is no guarantee the gate will be open, however, if it is be prepared to hike for about 20 min, its well worth it!

the room heater didn't work at al and the tem is around 0C degree l. I reported this issue to the hotel around 8pm, and they didn't provide any solution until I got so so mad at 11:00pm.... The waiter directly touches the tableware with his hands without any protective measures or disinfection measures

We came here with my wife and 2 kids following a cancellation of Sanya Club Med for my kid as the schools are requiring 2 weeks in Beijing. We wanted to find some resort area where the kids can play in the pool and adults relax. After looking online we found this hotel which has a pool and a big kids club. We also had found a Chinese minsu nearby with a bigger pool at half the price but I was worried about the food and bedding quality so I preferred to stick with Hyatt, usually a synonym of great standards. Well I was wrong: 1. No pool- at our arrival we were told the pool isn’t available because of covid (while every other pools in city and around are). I booked 3 weeks ago, why wasn’t I informed by email or phone? 2. Only Chinese restaurant- I’m very conscientious about healthy eating but also I like food variety. Well you won’t get that here. The Chinese restaurant is good ( priced at 5 stars restaurant) but very limited choices so if you stay here more than a day you ll end up eating the same thing at the same place everyday. They have a western menu available at the All Day Dining restaurant which is available from 2 to 5pm (explain me the logic in that?). This is obviously lack of staffing in kitchen. 3. No Room service- so if you are coming here and you are hungry after 9pm well you just got to wait next day morning as there is no menu for room service. And there’s nothing around you can order on meituan. 4. Kids club- the building is really big but pretty much empty, it’s ok to occupy your kids for 30min-1h but don’t expect anything else. The place is dead silent, no atmosphere, you feel like you are entering a library. No music, only one staff. 5. Rooms- the building design are nice (if you don’t look too closely), but very poor insulation so just pray not to have noisy neighbors in the shared area. We choose the family room at 2300rmb per night and the view on the wall is amazing. The mattress(Simmons, not sure it’s not a copy) is rock hard like you d expect in any cheap Chinese hotel (expect hip and shoulder pain) the bed sheets/ pillows are good quality. Don’t expect to sleep in the dark either, the blinds are good but the AC led screen is super bright and can’t be turned off. 6. Surroundings- a missed opportunity really, it’s beautiful to walk from the rooms to main building, unfortunately they are using cars (Buick) to pick up guest so you can’t let your kids run free. Why not make the roads smaller and have the guest more interacting with the nature. They had the potential to make it like naked retreat in Huzhou but missed it. Why not using golf cart? So overall I’m very disappointed with this hotel. Today I ll take the kids to the Great Wall but I’m seriously considering canceling the rest of the trip here, I don’t want to keep paying not to eat and sleep well.

I must say, this is the first Hyatt unbound collection hotel I have visited since I joined the program, and unfortunately, based on the experience I received at this property, I will no longer consider unbound collection hotels. First, the good side, we received a warm welcome at check in, front desk staffs are very efficient and willing to help, especially the one who checked me in. But this is the only pros throughout our stay. Second, we come to the bad sides. 1.Very poor room facilities. I would never imagine any rooms which cost us thousands turning out to be a room like a budget hotel room, poor decor materials, poor maintenance, poor settings without put costumers in the center of design, so you could not even find a cup in the kitchen area. 2.Extremely low cleaning standard. Yes, just like others say, your room will be full of insects, both alive and dead. Use your caution before your take a bath, because dead insects will be in it. Use your caution too before you step into your bed, because chances are you will step on insects and killed them. My room has insects at almost every corner as well as on the windows sill slots, I know this is a hotel in the forests and insects are common, but this is not the excuse, I’ve stayed at many hotels like this, they always try to control the insects and bring you a clean and sanitary environment to the guest, but this hotel definitely does nothing. Even a basic housekeeping could clean out the dead bodies of the insects, but they stayed their. 3.Poor service. Except the service I received at check in, the other services including check out and many other, are not up to the standard of Hyatt. Some Staffs are rude, lack the basic communication skills with costumers, some are not that warming, but they at least does their job, ok, thank you. At last, I know this hotel transformed into Hyatt unbound collection this year, I visited it hopping Hyatt could upgrade the hotel to a much higher level than the former one, but the experience is very disappointing, I think this hotel only fulfill the standard of a B & B (average level not the higher level), not up to the standard of a hotel not to mention a Hyatt hotel standard. I will never come back again and I will not recommend this property to any friends of mine.

I wouldn't recommend this place ever mainly because of 2 things: the rooms and bad service. I have to point out that I needed to have my room changed because the bathtub was full of dead insects, so many cobwebs and to top it off so many insects flying in the room. I asked for room service to fix the tub and the flying insects but instead of feeling sorry and changing my room immediately, 3 of the people from the hotel were chasing a fly in the room and spraying insecticide!!!! I panicked and told them just please please change the room because I can't stay there anymore with all the insecticide. Then, the room they changed me in to was still very very dusty to the point that you can see dust flying off under the light and take note, there were cobwebs!! I told the manager to please take note of those next time they have their guests in. Then in the middle of the night, the aircon broke and I had to wait for another 20mins before some one comes in. All of these changes left me sleeping from what is supposed to be 10pm to 12:30am Then the service is the worst. Can't believe this is under hyatt training. In the restaurant, i had to be the one to call in waitresses to serve us. And since we can't speak Mandarin, the initial server left us suddenly to supposedly call in an english speaking waiter. They left us for 10mins unattended and again, I had to go in to call a server. UnbelieVable. Take note during the whole room fiasco, before someone comes in to fix the whole room situation, i had to wait 15 mins for someone to come to the room. I felt very very frustrated as I was just so tired from the trip and i just wanted to rest. Too bad in all honesty because the hotel area has good structures but it's all a facade. Its crazy bad the rooms and service could get considering the price of the hotel. I will email hyatt also on this because I even have a video of their personnel trying to kill the insect in my room. This is really unacceptable.
