We stayed at the hotel in a deluxe queen April 2017. I would describe this place as more of a glamping style vs. hotel. The hotel arranged a driver to and from Beijing which was extremely helpful. The room was okay but didn't have much of a view of the wall (I think we stayed in 1-4?). It was more...

We stayed at one of the cottages and the title of this post describes exactly. There are two building at Apricot Lane - a renovated farmhouse with bedrooms and modern baths and across from the courtyard a spacious kitchen/ living room space, with a quaint wall surrounding the property for privacy. Raise your eyes and you see the mountains and...

I'm an American teacher, living and working in Beijing. So I decided during a three day weekend to try the Brickyard at the recommendation of a colleague. It is a quite lovely, and uniquely built boutique hotel. I had a twin room which is really all the room that I needed as a solo traveler. Had plenty of room to...

Dear azdemocrat, Thank you for all of your perceptive comments about the Brickyard. I am so sorry that you found the children romping around to be distracting. Saturday nights is when local and expat families also wish to retreat from the city and get a taste of fresh air, blue skies, and our gardens. If you do decide to visit...

We loved our stay at the Brickyard. We took full advantage of the beautiful property, including a nice stop in the hot tub after a big day of climbing and walking on the Great Wall. The restaurant has a broad menu of Chinese or western food (never thought I'd be so happy to see a patty melt). A terrific breakfast...

We (husband, 15 year-old son and myself) had a very tight schedule with a brief stop over in Beijing. We were committed to seeing the Great Wall and fortunately found the Brickyard Retreat on Trip Advisor. I contacted the Brickyard and explained our limited time schedule ( arriving in Beijing at 7pm from the States and flying out the next...

The Brickyard Retreat was in a beautiful location and our room had a view of part of the Great Wall. The staff was excellent and very accommodating. Good food and ambience at the restaurant. Raj was friendly and helpful and arranged transportation to the airport for us.

Rooms are sustainably basic but have what you need and are comfortable (or at least ours was). I like that there is no room TV, it’s not what you come for (but there is a TV room). Rooms face North for view of the great wall atop the hill and the upper glass for viewing is not draped and cannot...
