Not sure where to start on our incredible Mara Explorer experience. From the welcome on arrival, we felt like we were becoming part of the Explorer family. The intimate size means it is possible to feel special and get to know the attentive humorous staff - massive thanks to them all and especially Geoffrey, Collins, Pauline, Shadrak and John. Another special feature of Explorer is its incredible location on the sweep of the river and its resident herd of about 30 hippos - a constant source of entertainment. The tents are very generously sized and beautifully appointed with every possible need well thought through. We decided that the place should be called Michelin Mara because the food, its presentation, and selection was flawless. But of course we came to the Mara for the drives and from our first drive knew we were in experienced and knowledgeable hands with Paul. By the end of the second day we had seen every cat and animal that makes the Mara so very special. After that every drive was a bonus. Being amidst the migrating tide of nature and life flowing between Serengeti and Mara and special up close experiences will be with us forever. And no spoilers but we just loved the special surprises each day.

Phenomenal place! Been to the Masai Mara five times, and this is by far the best camp. Location is very close to the airstrip and very central to the park. The food is extremely delicious. The tents are the best part with an outdoor bath and overlooking at the hypos in the river. Each designated to compliment the landscape and in a secluded spot. One can spend days just sitting in-front of the tent looking at the hypos and enjoying their company. The service is very personal and the people who work here have stayed for years. They all are excellent professionals and they try their absolute best to deliver a unique experience. Looking forward to our next stay here.

We stayed in June of this year with my husband and I enjoyed every moment of it. The attention given to details on each and every aspect of running of the property is next to immaculate. Under the leadership of the camp manager, Geoffrey, the facility is run with the intention of making the customer happy, always. Unlike the conventional hotel, I was even allowed to customize my menu for dinner and Chef Josephat went out of his way to prepare the dish to our liking. I would be unfair if I didn't mention the staff who always made sure our room was clean and the professional guide who took us on our safaris and was patient enough to answer all our questions even if sometimes we were repetitive.

It’s been a month since we returned from our trip to Mara Explorer camp and we still can’t stop talking about it. It is hard to find words to convey its beauty. This is the most incredible place for a wide variety of reasons. The location and views are unbelievable ( hippo pool near our tent). Addition to that modern dinning space, luxury tented rooms, delicious food , top notch service, charming staff always smiling and professional . We had well organised safaris and nature walks by professional guides. Thanks to all staff members who made our stay successful. We came in as your guests but we left as your friends. Thanks , you are the best.

Safari was an amazing experience, but it could not have happened without the wonderful staff at Explorer. From the wake up beverage, the excellent meals, the hot water bottles, and the sun-downers, it was all magical. Geoffrey took such good care of us, as well as Pauline and Kennyrogers. The waitstaff takes such good care of you, and I cannot imagine a more beautiful place with kinder people. I am already planning my trip back.

The room itself was very nice, spacious enough with a deck overlooking the river were we could see birds and deer. The lobby area always had hippos and crocodiles to watch. Unfortunately they seem to have some maintenance problems as my friend's foot went trough a board in the lobby. Fortunately he wasn't hurt but someone less fit could have been seriously injured which is worrying. My husband had a hair in his pasta but other than this the food was good. There wasn't much variety on the menu but what we had was very good. The service was a let-down. Despite not having many guests at the time that wait staff seemed indifferent and never really checked on us, refilled drinks or asked if we needed anything. We discussed our issues with the management who were very responsive and tried to make things up to us but it seems like this property is struggling so I can't recommend it for the price especially they should be doing better.

Fantastic experience . We took the full package including the game drive. The game driver Aggrey was fantastic made sure we didn’t miss anything except the reclusive rhino. Saw everything else multiple times including the migration. The hotel service was fantastic with Geoffrey the manager taking care of and going beyond to assist. Pauline our stewardess was very polite and took care of our needs promptly. We enjoyed the bush breakfast. The surprise African sundowner and the last day surprise breakfast outside in the open. Do not miss the massage after a tiring safari day. The masseuse is very skilled. Everybody and everyone was top notch

Great location on the river, very pleasant staff and good food, but the visit was spoilt by the massive herds of cows inside the park, where they are supposed to be banned. The presence of the cows meant that the lions had been pushed away to the far points of the park.

We had a most amazing stay with the Mara Explorer. The location of the camp is incredible, right next to a river bend with over 30 resident hippos, who we so enjoyed watching. The staff were amazing, Geoffrey, Kenny Rogers, Pauline, and of course our wonderfully experienced guides Raphael and Joab. The warmth and care of the staff made us feel right at home. Food was delicious and the game drives were so memorable. Can’t recommend the Mara Explorer enough!
