Il Moran is widely regarded as the premiere camp in the Masai Mara, with the best game viewing right on your doorstep. This is the camp for those who want that extra bit of luxury: We’ve kept Governors’ Il Moran small and intimate, with added touches that place this camp at the top of the safari accommodation range. You’ll be the personal guest of our manager who will look after all your needs. Hidden under ancient trees deep in the forest, are just ten tents which line the winding banks of the Mara River. Dark chunky wooden tables contrast with oversized blue couches and a central, colourfully beaded chandelier, while tribal portraits and African artefacts are dotted around. Meals are served on the raised wooden decking of the main mess and dining tent which offers a birds eye view of the snorting hippos below. The main feature is a sunken fire pit which is lit in the evenings – the perfect spot to sit back with a cocktail of your choice. Il Moran is small and peaceful – the ideal camp for honeymooners and couples who are looking for a very special safari experience, or even families with older children. This camp has been awarded a Silver Eco Rating by Eco-Tourism Kenya for our sustainable tourism practices in place. We are a family with a colourful cast of characters that embodies the spirit of safari, while placing the care of the environment, community and conservation at the heart of everything we do.

Governors' Il Moran Camp is a wonderful place to stay. Phillip and the entire staff are there for your every need. It's a much quieter camp than Governors or Little Governors and I enjoyed its low-key atmosphere. Everyone there is incredibly knowledgable and willing to help, and it's by far the more luxurious camp of the 3. The food is delicious and they are accommodating with dietary restrictions and preferences. I also highly recommend the balloon ride with Sanjay. It was one of the highlights of our trip! Overall, Governors' Camp Il Moran exceeded expectations and I'd recommend a stay there to anyone!

My family and I had the best safari experience at Il Moran (and we have done a lot of safaris in Africa). Everyone was so lovely and friendly, the tent was luxurious, the food was great and our guide Ngei was superb and great fun. Il Moran kept us very busy but the experiences were breathtaking. From a balloon trip to the prides of lions, cheetah, elephants and the vast numbers of wildebeest, buffalo, zebra and topi on the plains as well as hippo, elephant and warthog who visited us in the camp. Thanks so much to Phillip, camp manager, for the book swap which I finished by the time I got home. I thoroughly recommend this camp. We hope to return one day. Thank you, Kenya was our best family holiday ever!

Incredible hotel and experience. This is part of the governors camp collection and is by far the most luxurious of the properties. The people working there are extremely nice and the overall experience is incredible. You are overlooking a river with hippos. The food quality is very good and the safari’s are incredible. We went for the Mara crossing and the 3 drives we did a day were spectacular. Our guide’s name was Isaac and he is one of the nicest guides we’ve ever had.

Fantastic place to stay, everything was spot on, perfect location, fantastic service, exceptional food and of course amazing safaris. Keith the manager was so helpful and made sure everything was perfect. We had Elisha as our ranger and he went out of his way to make sure we saw all the animals we wanted to. We also went on the hot air balloon trip, would highly recommend doing this, it was amazing. The tents are right on the Mara river and there is something very special about being able to watch and hear the hippos all the time, including at night. This really is a very special place and can’t recommend staying here enough.

We had waited for this holiday for nearly three years due to the pandemic and it was definitely worth waiting for- what an absolute dream holiday! From the minute we arrived (a family of 4) we were looked after exceptionally well by Phillip and his team. Everyone went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic time! The camp is incredible, set in such a beautiful setting alongside the Mara River with the hippos honking away! The tents were pure luxury, everything had been thought of - any drinks you requested put in your fridge to the hot water bottle placed in your bed at night. The food was wonderful and the service excellent. The game drives were out of this world. Our guide, Miner was lovely and his knowledge amazing, thank you for ensuring that we saw everything and more! Having breakfast and sundowners in the middle of the Masai Mara was a dream. We were lucky enough to do a Balloon flight - which again was a dream! Very well organised - a big thank you to the Governors' Balloon Safari. A very special shout out to Jackson who greeted us every morning with coffee and biscuits, such a lovely friendly guy. The only downside to this whole experience was the end of it, very very sad to leave! A huge thank you to Phillip and all of this team for making our safari perfect in every way, it will stay with us forever!

We visited as part of our honeymoon and we cannot stress enough how incredible this place is! It's not only a beautiful place to stay, the staff are the amazing! They can't do enough for you, morning wake up calls with hot chocolate & coffee, been greeted by name everytime you see a member of staff, they offer such a personalised experience and it has a wondeful personal touch to everything! Elisha was our safari guide and we can't speak highly enough of him, he has such passion for what he does and it really shows. His knowledge is incredible and we loved all of the fun facts he shared with us. He knows all the best spots for spotting the animals you want to see and will get you in the best positions for the best pictures. We saw a large gathering of zebras near camp one morning and that afternoon he took us to a river crossing as he knew they would be trying to cross, thanks to his instinct & knowledge we were able to witness the first river crossing of 2022! We got there first so got a great spot for viewing as well before a few more cars arrived. He also makes a great sun downer! Dalmas (I hope that's right) always offered service with a smile at breakfast, lunch and dinner as did the man who served us drinks - I wish I could remember his name! Steven, our guard was fantastic, he greeted us with a smile everytime he walked us through camp and was always full of fun facts, showing us monkeys and the best hippo viewing spots in camp. We really enjoyed chatting with him! Jackson was also fantastic, he was our room attendant and he woke us with our morning coffee each day with a smile and offered great service and everything we needed! All of the staff at Il Moran are just fantastic, all so helpful and genuinely nice people, we can't speak highly enough of any of them! The manager, Philip was also fantastic, regularly catching up with all guests and checking how their day was going, really nice to see that presence from a manager! Thank you, thank you, thank you Il Moran, you have made our whole trip!

We have always dreamt of going on a safari so it was a the perfect choice for our honeymoon, and Il Moran exceeded our expectations and more! It is hard to put into words what an incredible experience we had at Il Moran, although we only spent 4 nights here, it felt like we had known the place for years as we were welcomed in like old friends. The camp is incredible, it is in such a beautiful setting that photos will never do justice; from the wide open Mara river with Hippos and Crocs relaxing in, to the beautiful secluded tents and welcoming communal areas. We were in tent 3 which is a stones throw from the river and a short walk to the restaurant and bar areas, although it was totally private. The tent is a generous size, bed was very comfortable and the bathroom is very well equipped. The veranda at the front was a lovely space to relax between game drives. The décor and finish is perfect and in keeping with the surroundings. The main camp is a perfect size, restaurant was lovely with a variety of food options and all delicious (I am a fussy eater but it was easy to change things if you wanted to). You get the option of 3 courses for lunch and dinner which was very nice. The bar area and fire pit were perfect settings to socialise with other guests and staff, it felt really welcoming and personal. The staff in camp were all amazing, so interested in you as guests and will go above and beyond. The chef Lilian did a superb job, all the waiting staff were so friendly and attentive (Daniel especially), and Keith was really welcoming whenever we returned from our drives. An extra special mention to Jackson who looked after us in our tent and could not do enough for us, bringing us tea in the morning with a big smile helped us start the day perfectly and hot water bottles at night to get us ready for a good night sleep to the sound of the hippos, elephants and lions! Finally, the biggest thank you of our trip, to Kerore our guide, what an incredible experience he provided for us. We saw so many different animals and birds, including the big 5 (although the leopard was hard to spot so we count it as 4.5!), two Rhinos, the cheetahs with a kill and the huge lion pride were highlights. We felt so at home on the game drives, and especially loved stopping for breakfast in the bush on our first day and watching the sunrise and set. We stopped at sunset for sundowners which was a beautiful way to complete each day, and we were taken to a special spot on our first night with other honeymooners which was a lovely touch! Kerore was so knowledgeable, always taking us to new places, finding the best spots and answering our endless questions about the animals! We have certainly left a piece of our heart in Kenya, and will definitely return one day! Thank you for making our honeymoon so perfect, we will never forget it!

Governors Il Moran camp is the best way to enjoy safari with a few home comforts and a touch of luxury. Having never experienced safari before we were unsure of what to expect but the camp did not disappoint, the tents and the bar/dinning areas are expertly engineered with a modern decor. The service across the whole team was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, our driver was hugely knowledgeable and ensured we made the best of each day. The food and catering was excellent, my partners has several dietary requirements that were expertly catered for and great trouble was taken to prepare bespoke meals in the restaurant and off road picnics. There is a very nice community feeling through the camp and it’s very easy to sit around the fire at the end of the days and share stories with other residence (should you wish). I’d like to thank Philip and his team again for a fantastic experience a truly memorable trip!

Where do I start. My wife and myself booked 4 nights here as part of our 10th Wedding anniversary. It was one of those trips that you hope is going to be special and this place far exceeded being special. Philip and his wonderful team are so helpful, polite and kind. The camp sits above a river full of hippo's and you can hear them day and night (the noise doesn't disturb you at night, in fact it's quite wonderful to listen to them). The tents are very luxurious, safe and well fitted out. But what makes this experience so special is the safari drives. We were so lucky to have a Jeep to ourselves for the 4 days and our driver, Elisha was just wonderful. We managed to see the Big 5 within a day and a half (including the Rhinos who are quite elusive, as well as Cheetah's and Leopards. The drivers are so experience and have wonderful knowledge. They take breakfast out with them so you can enjoy it whilst out on safari, as well as "sundowner drinks" watching the sunset. The serene moment of standing in front of a Hippo pond (several of them watching us), with a rum and coke in my hand, my wife beside me, a beautiful sunset to my left and thunder and lighting to my right, will stay with me forever, what a memory. The food is wonderful and beautifully presented. All the staff are wonderful from the chef, the guards that make sure your safe at night, to the waiters and the room attendants. It's the little touches that make this place special, like the wedding anniversary cake the Chef made us and the hot water bottles in the bed at night (it does get cold). We will definitely be coming back.
