In September we spent 3 nights at Cottars. We are fairly seasoned travellers but the experience of being at Cottars was world class. The game, the food, the staff , the guides and the Cottar family all combine beautifully to create a very rare experience where we felt we were in a completely different era.Everything was very understated and authentic which genuinely...

This is a very special place in the Mara's with its tents, antique furniture and a very unique atmosphere. We had a very big beautiful and luxurious tent, with a fantastic view....zebras and antelopes coming in the evening to graze at our door. We also loved the migration and the amazing river crossing. Very good guides. The food was not...

Dear Pietisa, many thanks for this wonderful post, and bringing to light the many varieties of wildlife that are close to camp. Also thank you for highlighting the good guiding and ambiance at camp... Comments on food are so varied from guest to guest, but are mostly very positive as the many previous guest posts on TA can testify... But...

Dear Joanne, we are thrilled you had a good time at camp! You reinforce our belief that we have the best staff, the best managers and the best camp in the Mara ecosystem, indeed the camp that new investors to the ecosystem aspire to copy, emulate or be 'better' than. We were recently honored to be mentioned by Brian Jackman...

Of the five tented camps we experienced during our October 2013 visit to Kenya and Tanzania, Cottar's 1920s Camp on the Maasai Mara was our favorite! The service, food, and accommodations were over the top. An important part of the very memorable, luxurious experience at Cottar’s were the Maasai we met. Sananka was our amazing spotter who traveled with us...

I am unable to comment on the value for money, because my 4 day safari trip was a surprise gift! And surprise it was indeed. My 4 days there could only be described as idyllic. I was pleasantly intrigued with the camp. The ultimate luxury under canvas! Of course, the purpose was to experience the wild life and flora. In...

If you think this is a trip of a lifetime, then do it in style - do it at Cottar's! My travel agent encouraged me to go with a first rate experience and this was indeed first rate all the way. Nathalie, I am so sorry you lost days at camp to your boy having malaria that he got from western Kenya..Luckily we don't have malaria in the camp area as we are a thousand feet above the anopheles mosquito altitude threshold .. We stayed at Cottars in mid October 2013 and it was great. The place is excellent, especially the mess tent. High quality and comfortable. The view from our tent was great and the guiding was first class, as were the landcruisers. We stayed at a couple of other reserves during our trip, which were good, but this was by far...
