After planning a trip to this part of the globe for months, finally arrived in a downpour, and crazy thunderstorms, we did the distance of 60 kms in three hours..... this was all good, as most animals which normally , would not been there ,due to the dryer months, have stayed behind ,in fields of abundant grasslands, instead of choosing...

We will never forget this lodge, absolutely the best. We went for our honeymoon to Safari in Kenya, staid in 4 different lodges/hotels, this was the best by far. Not only was everyone there extremely nice, polite and helpful, but the lodge itself is literally part of the safari: there are hundreds of hypos right there! We heard them all...

I stayed at this beautiful lodge with our medical mission team after serving in Nandi County, Kenya. The food was excellent as was the service. The beds were comfortable but the rooms were a bit small. Loved watching the hippos from the deck. I encourage any seeking a safari getaway to plan to stay here. The new manager, Jens Rehm,...

This hotel is very nice and just next to Mara River. It's amazing to watch the hippos so close while at the restaurant. Only downside is that it's not in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, which is way away from there.

I cannot fault this place at all. My husband and I were the only guests during the majority of our stay so it was very quiet however the staff couldn't have been better! They moved our dinner table to different areas ever day so we could have lunch with the hippos and dinner in front of the fire! John taught...

When I found this hotel in internet, I was quite skeptical because of it's reasonable price. But when I reached there I understood my decision was correct. This Lodge locates quite near from the Maya North airport also near from the ranger's camp so it's very safety. one small Masai's village is also near from this hotel. In front of...

First time visitor to Kenya. Choose Mara River Lodge , was not disappointed. perfect location, 5 minute drive from Mara North air strip.35 minute flying time from Wilson Airport,Nairobi . Amazing setting. Stayed 3 night , which is more than enough, to take in the incredible surrounding Safari. Welcomed by David in a Vintage African Van at the airstrip, then...

We had a wonderful 3 days at Mara River Lodge. First of all the staff were amazing, friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble... Thank you all very much for making our holiday memorable and for the cake. Before we reached the lodge from the airstrip we had already encountered 9 different types of game already! Lion spotting...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mara River Lodge commands one of most spectacular views in the Serengeti - Mara ecosystem; the lodge lies on the Mara River at the edge of Maasai Mara Game Reserve and overlooks deep pools where crocodiles and hippos bask all day. Painted in traditional Maasai red ochre and lit by hundreds of lanterns, the lodge is surrounded by indigenous trees and plants and is an attractive complement to the local environment. Guests can see hippos across the river from their tables as they sit down to enjoy the international cuisine on offer. Families of hippos spend their days basking in the deep pools beyond the bars and restaurant throughout the day.
