If luxury and private safari is what you long for, you’ll find both in abundance at Olarro. Sanctuaries for indulgence sitting within the Maasai Mara region, our all inclusive luxury lodge retreats offer a truly exclusive experience of Kenya’s wildest lives. With two different lodges on offer at Olarro, guests can choose between a secluded hilltop haven and a lodge meticulously planned to offer uninterrupted savannah views. While each opulent outpost offers a very different perspective, both escapes promise privileged safari views. Our luxury lodges lie within Olarro’s very own 20,000-acre wilderness – owned entirely by us, open only to our guests.

My wife and I went to Olarro Lodge on our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. For anyone looking for a quiet, personalized safari experience, this is absolutely worth it. Olarro Lodge sits in a conservancy, nestled on a hill with a spectacular view that hits you right as you walk out your door. The conservancy has the same ecosystem as Maasai Mara, is a short 10 minute drive away, and is limited to Olarro guests, giving you a much more secluded experience (compared to the Mara, which is stunning in its own right but also full of roaming Land Cruisers). We were able to find an entire pride of lions, lionesses, and cubs relaxing before sunset, and we competed with no one for a view of only 5 yards away. While you'll want to plan for time to explore both the Olarro and the Mara, I should note that my favorite part of the trip was Quad-Biking among the animals in the conservancy. The staff is nothing short of incredible - given the limited number of lodges, the staff to visitor ratio enables a very high touch experience. The entire staff was coordinated on every detail, from packed lunches and custom made Bloody Mary's, to 3:30AM coffee before heading off to the hot air balloon ride. Our personal Maasai guide, Brian, had an encyclopedic knowledge of the animals, flower, and fauna of the region. He also taught us quite a bit about the Maasai and how they live. You won't be crammed in a van with a ton of other visitors like some other lodges - it was just my wife and I with Brian, scrolling through the hills looking for all types of animals. The feeling of exclusiveness really hits as you settle into a picnic lunch underneath a lone desert date tree atop a hill and overlooking a landscape resembling something out of the Lion King. It was our first experience in Kenya and on safari - I'm afraid we won't ever be able to top it.

i love everything about this place !!amazing staff, perfect price-budget and actually the camp is located near Mara River in the southern sector of the Mara Triangle. The campsite is cool for small group and has splendid view of the Mara River. It has good access road and the best part is that it is not far from wildebeest crossing points. We had a great time there. Read less

This is by far our best vaccation, from the greeting to the end you feel in a very exclusive environement. All the staff is very skilled, friendly and dedicated. The guide are very good, we had a very good time with Paul, we have been to so many incredible excursion and daily surprises (such as the dinner in the bush, but i won't tell the others). We stayed at Olarro Plain, we spent lot of time in the other lodges, both are amazing. There is a true feeling a luxury and exclusivness in this hotel, we loved the food, for the middle of kenya it's very impresive, even if some dished especially for the breakfast could be enhanced, but i'm french and the croissant is something important for us. On top of that we have been lucky to meet the manager of the hotel and of the reseve, they are both lovely and i have memorable time with Bill. We hope to be able to bring back all the familly one day, it's a true exclusive experience.

If tripadvisor allowed for one rating above 5 stars per year this would be my choice. My family and I spend 4 days at Olarro and the experience was simply amazing. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised that we were upgraded to the Little Olarro suite. The suite had two bedrooms, two bathrooms plus a huge living room that was more than adequate for my family. In advance of arrival we notified Olarro that we were pescatarians and that proved to be very helpful. Breakfast lunch and dinner were each 3 course gourmet meals with both vegetarian and fish options. We chose our meal choices one meal in advance. Peter did an outstanding job co-ordinating our meals and providing us snacks and drinks when we were by the pool on on our balcony relaxing between or after excursions. Laundry was also included in our stay which was a nice surprise and very helpful as you become quite dusty after the game drives. Our guide Dominic was simply spectacular. He is Masai and was very well connected which truly enhanced our experience. We did game drives in both Olarro and Masai Mara. In Olarro the animals were closer together and more abundant but in Masai Mara we saw lions, hippos and cheetahs which we did not see at Olarro. At Masai Mara Dominic was very well connected. He was tuned with the other guides and quickly found out where to spot the animals. As a result of Dominics instincts were were able to see a cheetah eating a gizele which he must of killed five minutes before we arrived (we were the only ones there). We did the quad biking at Olarro twice and that was simply spectacular. There is nothing quite as amazing a quad biking next to a herd of 20 giraffes or riding beside galloping zebras and wildebeests. One of the best experiences that we had was at the market. We happened to go on a Thursday which is the day that that sheep and cows are sold. We wanted to do something to give back to the community and we asked Dominic if we could purchase a sheep and donate it to a local Masai community. Within minutes Dominic made this all happen. He helped us negotiate the price for the goat ($US 30), buy a rope for a leash for the goat, transport the goat with us to the village and the donation of the goat to the village. At the village a father and about 20 children were waiting for us the bring the goat and a whole dedication ceremony was arranged. My kids took videos of this event and in the end this unplanned idea turned out to be the most memorable part of our trip. We hope that Olarro adds this to the this of their great activities. Overall, our experience at Olarro was spectacular. It was luxurious, fun and meaningful all at the same time. Olarro is not just a hotel but it is an experience. We fully recommend Olarro and hope to return one day.

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights at Olarro Plains. The stay was the best we could ever ask: from a truly luxurious room, to a customized meal every single time (thanks Noora!), and an amazing & warm restaurant service (thanks Francis and Fred) all coupled with constant care from the manager Su and her assistant manager Grace! When it comes to Safari and Wildlife, our guide Paul was the best we ever encountered in a safari (we have both been on other 4-5 safaris) because he not only was very warm and flexible with us and he knew how to spot animals very well, he also spent lots of time sharing with us all the knowledge about animals, their habits and the ecosystem around them. On top of Paul, we were so lucky to be in constant contact with the Conservancy Manager William which showed us all the great work they do to preserve the habitat and protect the animals from poachers, etc. Being able to drive through such a big and densely populated conservancy and being alone with maximum one or two other cars was unforgettable - especially when compared to bigger over visited parks like the Masai Mara. The unforgettable aspect of the holiday though was the feeling of family that the whole staff gave us, making us feel part of their team and the place itself! Truly the best Safari Lodge we have ever had. Thanks to all! We hope to be back soon!!! Anna & Alfredo

Be careful when you visit Olarro with the kids There might be someone smoking near them and when you ask the staff to intervene you will get a cold shoulder. I was quite disappointed having been a customer of their sister hotel the Smith for quite some time.

Dear Mercy, Happy New Year. Hope you are well? I have a strong feeling that you are confusing us with Olarro by Smith of which we have NO affiliation with or another property. We own & operate 2 lodges in our conservancy - Olarro Lodge & Olarro Plains respectively. Please visit our website - www.olarrokenya.com for more details. We value all our guests & are very family friendly so this comes to us as a big surprise. Which lodge did you stay at? Also kindly confirm the dates as we can't see you on our reservations system. Many thanks again. Awaiting your response kindly.

Wow! Wow! Wow! To the family from Olarro Plains we can’t thank you enough for a truly unforgettable experience. We had 3 incredible nights at the Plains. The room was stunning and the view we woke up to every morning is spectacular. Every meal had a little surprise, we even had a beautiful lunch hosted at the Lodge. There was so much thought and detail in everything we did (for example the morning wake-up calls coming with fresh coffee delivered to our room!). It all started from the seamless and efficient organization of the trip through the reservations team (thanks Rochelle), our transfers, and our amazing Plains family (Sushil, Dom, Simon, Fred, Francis, Nancy, Nora and the rest of the team). Their hospitality was next level and we could never do it justice in a review. Dom and Simon were our guides the entire time. We loved being out on the conservancy, learning so much about the animals and more. We also did a day trip to the Maasai Mara which we loved, but it’s a very different vibe compared to the conservancy! The Mara has way too many people and cars and just generally too commercialized. It was great to experience it for a few hours, but we loved the conservancy and the privacy to explore. We can’t wait to see the conservancy grow over the coming years and hope to be back there visiting again! Dani and Jamie :)

Dear Dani and Jamie, Thank you so for your wonderful review of your stay at Olarro Plains. For you to say our hospitality was next level is exactly what we strive for. Biased, but we too prefer a game drive in our Conservancy as opposed to the Mara for your exact reasons. Your lovely words have certainly made our day and on behalf of the Olarro family thank you! We had to stay at this lodge due to a car breakdown. We were warmly welcomed and the staff was very helpful. The chalet is nice and spacious and the view is spectacular. However, the included dinner was not very good and neither was the breakfast. We wonder how they justify an $800 rate per night,... per person(!).
