I visited the rock house with a party of 8. The establishment in itself is in easily accessible and very nice and relaxing. However the staff could be do better. There was only one overwhelmed waitress who was doubling up as kitchen staff and we waited over 40 minutes for just the drinks order. Their payment methods and reconciliation is also very wanting, they advise you to pay by M-pesa yet cannot access the phone to which payments are made and refuse to let you check out yet it is their responsibility to confirm payments.
Lovely friendly place, staff very kind & abliging, plenty of food at mealtimes all cooked lovely, hot cold or alcohol drinks served anytime, on an evening staff even asked if we wanted the open fire set up in the lounge area. You can order exactly what breakfast you would like at any time. A great stay, recommended. Fantastic affordable prices.
I am sure that rock house was once a lovely place but sadly no more. We asked to move rooms due to having lose wires and a toilet that did not work. Our second room wasn't much better. The shower was a trickle and from the outside balcony we had a view of the back of the property full of rubbish. The rooms were cramped and although clean very dated and in serious need of updating. The one saving grace was the one member if staff we met who was welcoming and pleasant. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but left after 1 as I could not stand it.
We stayed here two nights in a triple room (one double bed & 2 single beds) and we were very comfortable. Rooms are bathroom are basic and whilst the water in the bathroom never got above tepid, the shower here had the best pressure of any guest house we stayed in in Kenya (massive bonus points!!) The hotel has a quirky style to it which was sweet and had some lovely art pieces throughout. What makes this a great property were the staff. Extremely friendly and helpful. Went out of their way to accommodate our needs. Would be happy to return to Rock House.
The second time I've stayed with Patrick and his staff at the Rock House and this time was just as good as the last. Went to Kenya with IntoAfrica again and stayed here on the first and last nights. Super friendly and helpful staff, great venue, pool, bedroom etc, and the food was also top class. I thoroughly recommend it to you.
A great place, great food and amazing staff. Very quite and close to all the nice places in Karen. Slept like a baby! Great Value for money. Loved the art work. Hot shower available 24/7 and you can help yourself to hot drinks anytime of the day.
The people here are great and we felt SO SAFE! They are associated with IntoAfrica and we stayed there before, after and in between our two safaris. They will serve up to 3 meals per day for a modest charge and the decor is delightful! It is totally made of rocks! The staff are so considerate and helpful. They have plenty of vehicles and were able to take us to several spots nearby, saving the effort of making our own arrangements. They are adding more rooms. While we were there we were delighted to witness a graduation party and a children's birthday party. We stored luggage there for a week - so many ways they helped us out!
The place is just so homey! We went here for Easter and despite it being a rainy weekend we felt very warm. The 1st thing that gets you is the gate, so creatively done! You immediately want to know what's inside. And it doesn't disappoint. The entire place is made out of well done bolders. Sooo creative! It's not on large grounds but this just serves to make it more personal and quaint. The rooms are quite big and clean, spacious beds and a huge bathroom. The food felt very home-made, not your typical hotel food. And it came in generous servings. Beautiful pool area as well. Please remember to carry your own toothpaste though as they don't stock or sell it. Overall, i loved it!
We stayed two nights on arrival in East Africa and had a day-stay on leaving. This place will be hard to beat for the price and the friendliness. It is FAR more personal than a city-centre hotel as well as being in a safer and less polluted area. On previous visits to Kenya, I've stayed in the city centre - but no more. It is located in Karen (with Ms Blixen's place and other attractions nearby) and, though further from the airport than the city centre, the traffic to the airport is less a problem - and the hotel collected us and delivered us. The rooms are very clean with excellent showers, good mozzie nets, kettle and other items. The dining room has tv with free Internet in an alcove. Meals are more than plentiful, good quality, and cooked to order. The friendliness of the owners and staff are the making of this place. (They also arranged our transport across Kenya to the Tanzanian border and to and from the Maasai Mara Game Park - such a good service.) On our last day, we had the use of a room on arrival in the afternoon and a meal before continuing to the airport for our night flight - excellent service!…
I stayed at Rock House twice in February 2015, before and after going on a week long tour of Kenya. The hotel is very comfortable, with clean rooms, a beautiful front patio, a great pool area and onsite dining. We ate breakfast here every morning and dinner twice, the meals were all delicious with plenty of food. I usually don’t like staying in the suburbs when I travel but the location of Rock House is very good because there are so many activities in the surrounding area. The best part of this hotel was the staff, hands down! I was travelling with my husband and another couple and when we all returned for our 2nd stay it felt like coming home. I would like to thank Samuel for driving us to all the sights, Lydia and Hosea for their amazing food and company, Marianne for being so sweet, George for walking us to the Giraffe centre and Patrick and his wife for being such gracious hosts!…
