The service was excellent, and the food was fantastic! Even though the T-bone steak was substantial for one person, I ate the entire thing since it was so delicious. It complemented the vegetables and sauce perfectly and was tender.Steve made me feel welcome, and Dennis G. treated me well. They are well-groomed and made me smile, and I hope to always be able to return with my family.

Checking was quick and we asked for a room with the view of the city/playing field but the receptionist said it’s very noisy as there’s work going on. We were 3 adults in the room and it was very cramped as we had a lot of luggage. The sofa bed was very uncomfortable. No recommended. The twin beds were good. The room was clean and had a balcony that faced another building so no great. The kitchenette was not equipped so we had to wait for cutlery and crockery to be delivered. We had food delivered and it was very easy. Breakfast was basic food but it was okay for us. There was a selection of fresh juice, cereal, cooked food and breads plus fresh pancakes and eqq counter. Service was good and staff were attentive and friendly.
Upon checking out I mentioned to the receptionist about the bed sitter and view and she immediately spoke to the manager who promptly came to meet us and was very apologetic and even offered us another room with a view and a bigger suite. So I checked out feeling very happy that the team are working very hard on their customer service and satisfaction. I would highly recommend the manager and all his team.

The Heron Hotel on Milimani Road, a prime area in Nairobi, just a short distance from the CBD offers an excellent business experience with its well-equipped conference rooms, ideal for meetings and events. The rooms are spacious, modern, and outfitted with advanced audio-visual technology, ensuring seamless presentations. The staff especially wesley is professional, attentive, and quick to assist with any technical or logistical needs. Catering services during business events were exceptional, offering a variety of delicious meals and refreshments, thoughtfully prepared to suit all tastes. The food is fresh, flavorful, and presented beautifully, making breaks between sessions enjoyable. Overall, the combination of great facilities, efficient staff, and quality food enhances the business experience.

Arrived at approximately 12:00 noon on July 2 for a three day stay before beginning our 6 week tour of Africa. We had traveled from Brisbane Australia with a combined 29 hour flight, and stated at reception, that all we wanted was a hot shower and to rest. The male Manager on duty for reception knowingly hid the fact that there was no hot water in our room. After two phone calls and further going down to reception to see him, there was still no hot water. We went to dinner at 6:30 pm un-showered. This particular person was very hard to deal with, so our experience with him was not a pleasant one. After notifying our agent, we said we are refusing to come back to this hotel on our return journey after our scheduled time away on safari tours. So due to this Manager and his attitude he contributed to losing our second stay in the hotel. Apart from that, the outdoor restaurant staff delivered excellent service, food and wine which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Stayed at the Heron for one night prior to a group trip. The lobby area is immaculate, with beautiful interior design, check-in was quick and easy with kind and efficient reception staff.

In the evening I opted to use the buffet for dinner for KSH2000 (per person) where there was a small but delicious selection of foods, including vegetarian and meat options and fresh fruit for desert. When it came to paying for the food the service was quite slow. Upon returning to my room in the evening I noticed there to be poor lighting in the stairwell and outside rooms. Despite this I felt safe.

My room was on the 4th floor, which I could access via the elevator or stairs. On arrival the room was clean and tidy but in need of some repairs or an upgrade. There was a draw missing from inside the wardrobe unit, light switches that didn’t turn anything on or off and a shower door which did not shut meaning that the floor got very wet! There were some amenities (shampoo/body wash) available for use in the bathroom but no hot water to shower with. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and towels in the bathroom soft!

I am a frequent visitor of The Heron Portico Hotel.
The services provided have continued to improve day by day and the value for money is highly realised.
Covid 19 protocols have continued to be adhered to, hand washing tanks and sanitizers placed at strategic positions in the hotel.
I had an hair cut at the saloon located within the hotel and it was done properly as my expectations.
The swimming pool is very clean and heated as usual.
The Bashasha coffee shop offers a wide range of both local and international cuisine.
I ordered chicken curry with rice, for sure the meal was yummy.
Thanks a million to their chef.
Staff are very helpful and would do whatever it takes to ensure guests are happy.
Wesley, Friday, Maitai, Fred are very professional in their duties.
Thank you David for always ensuring my visits and stays are enjoyable.
I will continue visiting this hotel and recommend it to any visitor coming to Nairobi.

The best pillows ever !! Good for neck and the back when you relax in bed .

The hospitality was warm and welcoming with the workers well mannered and professional.

Fridah Rono , front office manager is one of the people you must look for when you arrive. She is extremely good at her job, a good listener, takes care of guests needs . She makes the hotel feel like your best friends house rather than a hotel. A five star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ worthy.

Anne Nyaga - Sales head manager. Came to us and asked how our experience was within the Heron Portico Hotel , and when I shared a few insights on where improvement was required, everything became good . That touched my heart. Such a very professional lady.

At the service areas there is this am there is Leah . Short haired lady built like a fashion model. Very hospitable that I almost thought she works for a top airline company. Admirable chutzpah and an impeccable service delivery.

Fred is the best with Spanish omelette. That chef is awesome.

Dan wadula at the gate is also amazing gate man

Faith Simon who was cleaning my room was so good. My room was just smelling fresh every single day with towels as pristine as it should.

Benard Ocholla who is the porter took good care of my bags. A warm hearted human with professional traits.

I love this hotel and I highly recommend it for people. It's an old hotel however it has kept it's magic ✨

I hope you people also enjoy the experience 💕

This is my third Heron Portico visit. While I can't know this, my distinct impression is that the Indian ownership is starving the property for infrastructure investment. As a travel journalist. I HAVE TO HAVE dependable wifi and sleep. Wifi is now a joke. It's so weak, drops off constantly, I moved rooms and STILL it didn't work. I lost multiple days of work running up and down the stairs about the wifi, then hot water, then no water, a broken shower head which never got fixed, one thing after another. People at the front desk would promise things, then I had to run down stairs to ask for them over and over and over. Things as simple as an extra towel or a pillow, toilet paper. Someone would nod and say right away and then two hours later, nothing. The plumbing is eccentric. The building itself is lovely, but the guts are old and cranky, and nobody is upgrading either the plumbing or the wifi service. The staff works hard, is lovely, but these breakdowns in basics ruin the experience. Good food does NOT make up for lousy wifi, which is essential now to all travelers. We would trade that lovely breakfast for dependable wifi, and people who would deliver the small things when they said they would. No business traveler I know would tolerate wasting two days' worth of work time with bad wifi, unpredictable water for a nice breakfast. I went three days without a shower: first, water was so scalding I couldn't use it, and nothing I did with the controls brought the heat down. Then I was moved to a lovely room, there the water wasn't hot at all, only cold, and then it turned off altogether. I couldn't even bathe in the sink. I appreciate the kind staff but until the owners make some kind of investment in the building, the hotel will suffer, and so will guests who are seeking the basics: decent wifi, hot water for showers, and a good night's sleep. If I want to go without I will head to the bush to tent. I do plenty of that already. When I pay for a hotel in town I have the right to expect the basics. This lovely hotel is not living up to its first impressions, which are stunning. FIX the wifi. FIX the plumbing. When a guest needs an extra towel, take care of it, and stop waiting until the guest has to hoof it downstairs and ask two or three more times for the same things. Because by then they are mad.

The best consideration in my opinion on deciding whether I feel confident about which hotels are managing the virus threats is to observe (seriously) and with due consideration to my personal needs to only enter into an environment where the rules of social disturbance, necessary sanitising of all furniture and surfaces etc are diligently carried out and where I see for myself the staff constantly following the rules in a way that I find shows me they are appropriately trained and I feel confident they know how important the critical criteria is required by any guest, their colleagues and managers. I want to feel comfortable because I can realise that the hotel staff and management knows how vital it is to protect everyone. I have visited Heron Portico during the past months only because of the way the hotel has adapted to the need for following the rules that we have all come to know. Tables and chairs are sanitised with a high pressure machine before you sit. Masks are worn by all staff and washing stands and hand sanitisers are positioned at each entrance within the hotel. The only areas accessible are in the open air and tables are appropriately distanced compliant with the relevant rules. Customers are politely made aware of the need for safety and those who visit Heron are responsible and readily accept the situation as good citizens and visitors are expected to. The hotel remains friendly and homely with the same high quality service, food and drinks as it has always been renowned for in its uniquely positioned location within Nairobi. Safe, and closely managed by David the General Manager as well as his team who are still incredibly professional and welcoming despite the challenging circumstances that we are going through. I remain confident and feel safe when I am in Heron. It’s a good spot for anyone looking for a hotel that is strictly following the rules of Covid safety first and foremost.....!
