Very nice boutique hotel. The lobby has a lovely high ceiling, and there are many african art pieces decorating almost all areas of the hotel. Being located within the same commercial property as the Village Market Mall (same owners) was a big plus, including amenities such as free entry to the VMX gym within the mall, the largest in city. As hotel guests, you can sign up for free to the many daily exercise sessions at VMX. I ended up trying a spinning class.
The hotel is also located within a secure diplomatic area, with the UN office, US embassy, and other embassies nearby. I found it safe walking around the Gigiri area where several restaurants, spas and even a padel court can be found.
I found the hotel staff responsive to our several requests such as rush ironing of clothes and extra bottled water. What I really appreciated was when I brought to front desk's attention the construction noise from one of the hotel rooms across the hall. Construction work seemed to have immediately stopped after that and until the day we checked out.
The only minor irritation is the seemingly duplicate bag checks when you walk back to the hotel from the mall. There is a pedestrian gate you must pass through where a guard will manually check your bags and then about 15 meters down a flight of stairs is the guarded hotel lobby entrance where your bags will pass through an xray machine to be checked again. Though I appreciate the circumstances why there are strict security measures in most commercial establishments in Nairobi, I found this to be excessive.
An added bonus are the bicycles available for guests to use when going to sights around the area. Many thanks to Carmeline of the Guest Relations team for arranging my guided bike tour of the nearby Karura Forest Park. Special mention to Brett for accompanying me to and from the park during our almost 4-hour adventure.

This was my third stay at Tribe, and I must say it reaffirmed why I keep coming back. Our second stay had some minor issues with housekeeping and reception communication, however the way the managerial team (Anna Haast and Mike Mwangi) handled it was truly impressive. They immediately acknowledged the concerns, made steps to address these and even sent a handwritten letter—a rare and heartfelt gesture in a world where many other hotels reply with generic responses.
This time, our stay was seamless. The reception team, Brett and Francis, were warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Our room on the second floor was fantastic—spacious, quiet, and overlooking the pool. I’d highly recommend staying on the upper floors if you’re looking for more tranquility. The bathtub and shower area were well-maintained (note that not all the rooms have a bath), and the TV offered over 50 channels.
The easy access to Village Market is very convenient and unique, giving you access to plenty of restaurants, shopping, cafes. The hotel also allows you to use their pool/gym as well as their sister hotel Trademark and the extremely well kitted out gym at Village Market which is state of the art.
Would highly recommend if visiting Nairobi!

The room was comfortable with a bathroom that has both a shower closet and a bathtub. The bed was large and comfortable. Breakfast was not too bad but limited in terms of selection. However, the restaurant does serve a good selection for dinner. The hotel seems to be within a secured compound with a shopping mall, which made it convenient to go out for a meal or to shop for necessity or even souvenirs. We had some meetings at the hotel and the meeting room or venue was not too big but quite cozy for the size of our group. Overall, it was a pleasant stay at the Tribe Hotel.

Ridiculous lack of privacy for a supposed 5 star hotel. The rooms are outfitted with sliding glass doors to separate the bathroom from the sleeping area. The glass doors are open at the top, are only partially frosted and offer zero barrier from bathroom sounds and smells. Fine if you’re traveling alone. Ridiculous if you are sharing the room.
Marriott and hotel designers if you are reading this, please know that this design trend, which I imagine is done for cost saving reasons, is a deal breaker. Had I known I would never have stayed at this property. And I think hotels should have to identify whether they provide a proper latching door for their bathrooms.

1. Pool was not available throughout the weekend due to a function. One of the reasons for picking your hotel was to relax poolside. That was impossible throughout the stay. 2. On check in, Your Receptionist did not understand the concept of the special offer I had booked, including room upgrade, despite being shown the reservation with the offer described. Only intervention by a more knowledgeable staff member resolved the problem 3. Our Room was located through the garden part of the restaurant. Whilst that wasnt an issue the first night, the second day the entire pool area was a maze of scaffold and pool cover sections which was noisy and dangerous 4. Breakfast was al la carte and not buffet style which was disappointing but was nevertheless OK 5. Our Second dinner was a disappointment although server Philip tried to recover the issues. The first night was a set menu with just 2 or 3 choices per course. That was OK, although the salmon was seriously overcooked. For the second dinner, despite being advised the previous night that the set menu would be changed, the same set menu was offered, We complained to Philip who resolved the issue and kindly offered a selection from the main menu. The crispy pork belly was far from crispy, although the meat was tender. The tilapia was oK but Another underwhelming dinner. 6. Although a very nice bouquet of flowers were delivered for my wife for the first dinner, none were delivered for the second night, despite paying the same money for each night. 7. Check out was uneventful, although your receptionist did not appear concerned that we had no use of the pool throughout the weekend. 8. Soon after making the reservation, we were advised that the couples massage, previously advertised at 10,000, had increased to 14,000. (40% increase????). That would have been totally unacceptable if we had prepaid for the reservation. In any event we didnt use the offer. 9. I was never recognised as a Bonvoy member, having to remind then reception staff at least twice
Overall a very disappointing stay. I can see now why TRIBE has not won any more awards for the past 10 years. The whole experience appears tired and urgently requires a make over. The hotel appears to be resting on the laurels of its outstanding architectural style. That is no longer sufficient.

Beautiful building and jungle feel to hotel. Our room was very clean, spacious and looked better than photos. It was a nice touch that all mini bar items were complimentary and wrapped chocolates were left on the bed with each clean. Some staff around the hotel and Jiko restaurant were very friendly and service was good at the restaurant. Despite these positives, there are a few negatives that definitely stand out. Firstly we didn’t realise on booking that our room was at a room only rate and on check in we weren’t advised of this and told that breakfast is between 6-10am. On arrival to breakfast next morning they took my room number and when I sat down I further clarified with the waitress what the set up was for breakfast. She took my room number again and said that it was a menu to choose from and in the meantime to help myself to the buffet. When picking from the menu she said I could have anything I wanted off the menu. I proceeded to ordering a breakfast of a few items and a couple of coffees as well as helping myself to juice and a few pieces of fruit. At the end I was presented with a bill of 3500ksh to pay and I was surprised as from what I had been made to understand so far was that breakfast was included in our rate. The communication was extremely poor with respect to this and information was given to make us think breakfast was infact included. When we went to speak to reception about this they apologised giving us an excuse and said they would speak to the manager and let us know the outcome. We had no further communication about this. We expect more from a supposedly 5* establishment.

Had a mixed experience at the Tribe Hotel. The hotel is beautiful, with high end amenities and a trendy, modern vibe. The rooms were relatively big and very comfortable. However, the staff was not very helpful and the payment process was anything but smooth. I had booked and partially paid for the room on Expedia prior to arrival, and the Tribe hotel would not recognize that payment (despite showing them Expedia and credit card receipts), and I ended up having to pay 1.5 times the price of the room. Very frustrating and the staff was not very helpful in resolving this matter.
The best part of our experience was definitely our driver, Peter, who works near the Tribe Hotel with Village Market Cabs, who I would highly recommend!! We hired him to drive us to dinner and he quickly became our tour guide and friend. He had so many ideas of things we should do and see while in Nairobi, as well as places to eat and drink - felt like we had our own private tour guide! Peter speaks excellent English and was so fun to be around. We were sad to say goodbye to him! Highly recommend and hope to see him again! Peter's number is +254 722 123565.

Excellent food, ambience, spa and customer service! We are definitely coming back! Breakfast buffet and rooms were wonderful. Loved the garden and planters around the dining area. It might be nice to have a barrier or separation between pool and dining area for some private enjoyment of the pool but other than that, no notes! I also appreciated that they stored our bags for a few days before we even checked in so that we can do our safari in the Mara without our big bags! Tony, Linet, Roger and Monica were all very attentive

This was an excellent hotel but the check-in and check out process was a pain. When we arrived it was early in the morning and so we just wanted to drop our bags and if they were able to get us one or two rooms to take a nap that would be good. After waiting an hour at the desk, they still couldn’t give us a straight answer so we left our bags and went to visit family. We came back at 2pm and the rooms were still not ready. We did eventually get our rooms and they were nice. Free wifi and excellent included breakfast, unlimited bottles of water and sodas in the minibar. The power outlets worked for all types of plugs including USB-A. My only complaint about the rooms was the lack of privacy in the bathroom. It had a rolling transparent mildly frosted glass rolling door. So you could see everything of someone taking a shower and hear everything in the toilet. If someone used the toilet at night the lights had to be off or it woke everyone up. But the bar had a great atmosphere and excellent cocktails. They had delicious Indian chai. I would recommend this hotel.

Guide for city tour or guide for safari?
We went to safari with Porini for 12 days and in the return journey has to stay in Nairobi for two nights. Porini charged me $200 for whole day taxi and driver. He took us around the city, and I asked him to take us to reptile park as we didn’t see mambas in the wild. Following day same porini arranged one way drop off to airport.
We are very happy with hotel, services from Porini and Kenyans in general
There are more places to choose from in the Nairobi area.
