The building is beautiful, and the staff were excellent. While the beds were small and the mattress very hard this was easy to overlook given the location, staff, and amenities. The owner however is a huge liability. During our brief one day stay we witnessed: - loudly complaining to guests about other guests staying there at the time (what was said about us when we were not there?) - Boasting that her hotel had the lowest rating among “the Arabs” and how happy that made her as she’d like to be able to never have Arab or local guests. - Haranguing the staff with an offensive and patronising manner before turning to us to say “those people need it”. - Sitting with you whenever you seemed available in order to tell you more racist or offensive things. Honestly we felt afraid of her and avoided her wherever possible. It is such a shame because the hotel is truly lovely and the staff wonderful. Unfortunately the owner and her (companion?sister?) are so unpleasant to be around that we could never recommend it or return. Personally I would advise her to step away from being the face of the business and perhaps if she hates local people as much as she says she should leave permanently.

Such a magical place! If you want a true retreat close to everything but away from the bustle of Luxor City (and it does bustle), this is the place. Beautiful rooms and ground, amazing friendly staff, and some of the best food in Luxor, this is really one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. They helped us with everything we needed including rides to and from the airport, excursions to the West Bank attractions and helped us book a hot air balloon. They even have their own boat which will take you to the east bank anytime you want. What a perfect spot.

The hotel is exceptionally beautiful with real antique furniture which gives it an authentic middle eastern feel. The air conditioning worked well and the free boat taxi to the hotel was wonderful. The lovely owner allowed us to have late check out free of charge and helped organise a car to the tourist attractions, which was super easy and affordable. - our balcony was definitely the highlight! The free breakfast and restaurant in the evening also served great food. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend this hotel to other travellers and I believe it’s worth every penny!

The best thing is that you chilled out after Cairo and before going back there for your last night. Enjoy it and go to Zamalek where it is quieter. That balcony in your room here is amazing isn't it. Apart from the view down the Nile you can see into the village and all over the hotel. Loved your very short stay with us. Nice pictures; thanks. Come back please

The hotel is in a great, quiet location with a free water taxi to the other side of the Nile. The breakfast is great, the staff are extremely helpful and can provide assistance with restaurant recommendations and tour booking. The pool is also a great place to cool off and relax after a long day at The Valley of the kings!

Its an experience with contrasts , located on the west bank in a quiet place directly next to the nile. Reaching the hotel with a boat give you a romantic feeling reaching a nice middle east complex with 1001 night architecture. If you reach the hotel with a car you have to pass through narrow dirt roads with barking dogs and rubbish allong the road making you wander if you are going the right way. The staff working for the female owner are very friendly and helpful. The owner though, really has to take a course about hospitality and representation. She barks at the personal, wears dirty scruffy clothes, hasn’t washed her hair for at least a weak and her glasses contain enough fat to bake an egg. Continuously smokes, this shows with her brown dirty fingers. During breakfast or diner she may , uninvited , come and sit at your table . Not realizing that some people may not appreciate this. The rooms are nice, authentic furniture, spacious. However there is no TV and internet in the room is excruciating slow. The garden with pool is very nice , small scale, with a very friendly poolmaster. The complimentary boat to take you to the other side works well.

I guess this just was not the hotel for you. It is not a hotel for people who want TV and lots of life I agree and definitely the hotel is set in the real farmlands of Luxor despite its proximity to the city and sights. Luxor village roads are not made up and unfortunately there is too much rubbish. Internet can be intermittent but always somewhere in the hotel its great as we have 4 lines and a reuter in every room. Thats about the best you can get in this country I'm afraid. God knows what I had been doing when we met! Must have been on the building site. At least you had the boat free to take you across to the civilisation. Also I think what you take for barking at staff is actually what we British call humour and is well understood by the Arabs, especially our own staff who all stay with us for long stretches (so we can't be all that bad). Hopefully you will find other hotels more what you want and are used to in your next port of call.

Excellent boutique hotel on the west bank. The courtesy boat across to the east bank works seamlessly to provide an easy and excellent link when needed and landing at the hotel’s river entrance is a lovely way to arrive. Djorff Palace itself is beautifully designed and decorated and in a quiet village. The hotel is a tranquil place for a dip in the pool late in the afternoon or to watch feluccas glide by at sunset. All the main West Bank sights are within cycling distance of the hotel. Our room was large with a river view terrace and fantastic roman style bath/shower. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough to ensure we had what we needed and we felt very well looked after. Marina is very friendly and welcoming, ensures the hotel runs smoothly and professionally and is a mine of information about Luxor and travelling in Egypt in general. Thanks to her recommendation, we made a point of visiting the Gayer-Anderson museum when we returned to Cairo and we very glad that we didn’t miss that highlight. An easy choice in our view, great value and it would definitely be our first choice if (when?) we go back to Luxor. Thanks Marina and to all your staff for a wonderful stay, we hope to stay again some day!

We booked into the Djorff Palace Hotel following our 4 days Nile Cruise in March 2022. What a place, it is truly wonderful, the architecture is breathtaking and the staff are fantastic, especially the guy at reception and the pool guy. Marina looked after us and is the life a soul of the hotel. Food was great and you could bring your own beer and wine to the hotel and they will put it in their fridge for you, but they do not sell alcohol. To add to the experience, the hotel has a motor boat to take to to and from Luxor town. Truly a wonderful place

Outstanding service from the reception to the boss herself. Rooms were luxurious, food was delicious and swimming pool was an delight. Hotel also had an boat to cross over to otherwise which was amazing. The hotel also booked air ballon experience and other sightseeing’s without any hassle. Would definitely stay here again.

What a reprieve! It was so nice to go somewhere away from the constant hassling you get from the streets in Luxor. The grounds are gorgeous and staff were professional and helpful with any needs. The food was lovely and so fresh. The rooms made you feel like royalty. We stayed in the Lapis room, which had these beautiful ceilings and very cool decor. I could lay in bed and stare out of the window watching the flowing Nile, or look up at the sky high ceiling. So cool! It was a Very very clean and large room. I also enjoyed talking with the owner. You could tell she and her husband put a lot of work into building this palace and it shows with their unique designs and attention to detail inside and out. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you!

The hotel is lovely in terms of architecture and setting. It is pleasant to be there and I would recommend you consider it if you stay in Luxor. It is a nice compromise between a hotel (with the respective facilities, e.g. a pool) and a guest house (which tends to offer more local hospitality). However, the staff at the Djorff Palace is lovely and helpful. Improvement points: The breakfast could indeed be more generous. It does not match the aspirations of the place and most guest houses will do a better job here. Secondly, the management could do a better job to actually meet the needs of the guests. Hospitality does not mean to consider the guests to be there for ones own entertainment as well as to (just) consider them as potential customers (to sell them services). Instead tourists look to get their questions answered and to be treated as people (with different needs). Especially at a place that does actually attrack all sorts of different types of travellers. The staff at the reception understood that much better.

Very useful review. Not sure what happened about breakfast because I think we have everything and one can eat absolutely as much as one wants. Something went wrong there I feel since we have many compliments about breakfast on other reviews. So glad the reception were helpful. We are not travel agents and do not aim to sell anything but rather to ensure guests know all the options and the different ways of obtaining them.. So sorry if you felt otherwise but I think that is not the way most guests understand it so communication problems there obviously
