If you are looking for something really touristic, this is not the place. On the other hand, if you want to feel at home and live an "egyptian" experience, this was one of our favourite spots in egypt. Assan is the "host" and he was the kindest person we've met in all gypt, and we felt we were home and he was taking care of us. (During this trip, my boyfriend was sick - and he was very attentive all the time and even went to buy meds for us). He is the soul of the place. The food was really tasty and delicious, and we could tell that it was fresh-made. Not to mention those mango juices directly from the tree. The views were amazing and really relaxing. The only downside was the location - staying on the west side, in order to go to the center you have to get a tuk tuk and cross rhe river in a public boat - but once you learn, its very easy and not really a problem.

Property's Favourite Review
After more than a year of research reading reviews on various hotels in Luxor, I decided to book 4 days at Jewel of the Valley. I regret that I did not book a longer stay! This wonderful, quiet boutique hotel on the West Bank of the Nile was the perfect escape from the noise of the city. The owner, Mr. El Ammari, built this three story home with obvious care and attention to detail. Our room was was clean, as was the entire property. Pristine linens made of the famous Egyptian cotton were on the bed and in the bathroom. There was a small fridge, tv (which we never felt compelled to watch) and a night stand between the twin beds. The bathroom had a rain type shower head and there was plenty of hot water. We had a view of the Nile and the banana grove. We slept well since there was no city noise and the beds were comfortable. The chef was amazing! We were given choices, often asked what we would like for dinner and it was prepared fresh. One night we decided to try a Nile fish. It was so good we asked for a repeat performance on a subsequent night. Well, Ezz wasn't content with the same recipe. There were three variations on the theme! All of it delicious. In fact, every meal we had was exquisite. We dined al fresco watching the boats on the Nile just yards away. Hassan and Syeed provided quiet table service asking if we needed or wanted anything else. There was an abundance of food making it impossible to leave the table hungry. Traditional Egyptian fare was offered as well as more Western dishes. We were amazed at the quality of the cuisine, the plating and freshness of all the ingredients. Since we were arriving by train after dark, I had asked Mr. El Ammari if his driver could meet us at the station. Mohamed was there and spotted us immediately as we emerged from the train station. With a smile he guided us through the chaotic traffic to the spotless air-conditioned car. He talked with us, making us feel very welcome, as we made the drive from East Bank across the river to the hotel. We were amazed at his driving skills. He calmly navigated the constant game of chicken that people, cars and animals engage in throughout Egypt. Arriving at the hotel we were led through the gate onto the terrace where we enjoyed fresh juice. And I do mean fresh! They pick mangoes or lemons off the trees that surround hotel and VOILA! you have fresh juice in minutes. Hassan stayed on the premises at night and gates were locked to ensure our security. In fact, we felt so safe we didn't lock our room the entire time. Hassan was always smiling and greeted us each morning as we came downstairs. Our comfort seemed to be his mission which he more than completed daily. Mr. El Ammari would meet us on the terrace each morning with, "Beautiful Morning." In less than 24 hours we understood that was the appropriate salutation at the Jewel of Valley. It is, indeed, beautiful. Syeed offered to walk us down the path to the river, pointing out the vegetable garden, fruit trees, donkey and water buffalo. The banana grove was immense. He also welcomed us into his nearby home. We asked for, and received, permission to photograph artwork on the wall. One morning I noticed Mohamed sitting on the terrace reading his Qur'an. It was a large book; the front cover embellished with Islamic art. At my request he helped me recite a passage and explained what it meant. For me, it was an extraordinary moment of one human being sharing his spirituality with another. The Jewel of the Valley never felt like a hotel. It was more like staying in the home of an old friend. We may have checked in as guests, but we checked out as family. The 5 Star rating is not enough. It may be a budget hotel, but it's luxury in service. Do yourself a favor and stay at this peaceful home on the Nile. Should I be lucky enough to return to Egypt, Jewel of the Valley will be my only choice of accommodation.

An experience to behold. Located in the peaceful heart of the West Bank, this hotel delivers an extremely pleasant experience to those who decide to stay here. We were immediately greeted by pleasant staff who attended to all our needs and guaranteed our comfort without being overbearing, invasive or imposing any form of unnecessary pressure (which is a positive thing taking into consideration the experiences one may have during their stay in Egypt). In keeping with the fantastic Egyptian hospitality, we were served a fresh drink and fruit sourced from their farms, which were refreshing and delicious. The hotel is beautiful, constructed with a gorgeous architecture, with an ample exterior which includes a pool which we enjoyed very much. The decor pays homage to Ancient Egyptian history, with various paintings from the walls of Tutankhamun’s tomb decorating the exterior as well as the rooms being named after important figures from this era. The room in which we were allocated was fantastic, very clean and comfortable, including a private bedroom area with a varanda looking out to the Nile, a kitchenette and living room space as well as a generous bathroom area. All the amenities described were included, and the staff would go above and beyond to guarantee our comfort and satisfaction. Wifi is available throughout the entire hotel. We dined in the hotel, and the experience was wonderful (as so was the food!) a definite thing to do here if one wishes to have their taste buds delighted by typical Egyptian cuisine (we had the chicken tagine if you want to give yourself a try). The breakfast was delicious, served at the hour we decided, providing one with the much needed energy to explore Luxor. Throughout the day we would be offered fruit from their farm as well as a variety of refreshing drinks which would help one cool off. A special word on the ever helpful and friendly Hassan who served us impeccably, always with a smile, resolving any question or issue efficiently and quickly, who definitely contributed immensely to the wonderful experience we had here, he is truly one of the jewels of this hotel. Overall, we would recommend this stay to anyone staying in Luxor.

It’s a great place to relax after a busy day seeing the sites in Luxor .. If you need to get back into the hustle and bustle of the city then it’s a short boat taxi across the Nile. The rooms and pool are very well kept, a credit to the owner. The Owner and staff made us feel very welcome . Would definitely stay here again .

Ladies and gentlemen, if you want to get pampered and have a relaxing time during your holidays then I highly recommend staying at jewel of the valley Howard Carter hotel!!! Hagag and his team have exceptional customer service that feels very personalised. Everyone we interacted with were super helpful and genuine. The hotel has really good facilities - pool, the food provided were really good, they can arrange tours within Luxor (I had already booked all the tours prior so can't comment on the tours arranged through the hotel), airport/train station pick up and drop off and the room was spacious with good facilities.

We have just returned from an amazing trip to Luxor staying at the Jewel of the Valley on the West Bank of the Nile. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home in the relaxed environment away from the main area of Luxor. Surrounded by banana palm plantations with a view across the Nile to Luxor temple and the city of Luxor was an experience that could not be duplicated. The owner Hagag organised an itinerary for us to visit all of the main attractions with guides and private vehicle that suited our pace and expectations perfectly. There was no hard sell or overinflated prices either. Sailing on a felucca or boat trips over the river to Luxor departed from a small private jetty about 300m from the hotel. A quick mention to the staff and a boat would be booked for a very cheap price to head into Luxor to visit the temples, shopping or just strolling the streets. The staff at the Jewel must receive a mention as they treated us like family. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, offered advice to make our days easier, and were happy to sit and talk with us about everything and anything. It was genuine Egyptian Hospitality at its finest. Breakfast was served each day at a time the suited us (and our plans) and was always a great start to the day. Dinner each night was some of the most amazing food we have had in the country and was served either on the balcony overlooking the Nile or in the open air grounds of the hotel. All up we had a most enjoyable stay at Jewel of the Valley and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed trip to Luxor away from the bustling tourist hoards. 10/10!

After 2 weeks travelling in Egypt we arrived at the Jewel and we felt like staying in a jewel. Complete hotel is super clean and well maintained. Team is super friendly and always up for a chat. Saying this, they could be a less pushy when it comes to upselling trips. Kids loved the pool and adults loved the view from the pool to the Nile. Breakfast (not important to us) was OK - dinner was great. The dinner was - compared to other places a bit pricy (around € 16) - however they started preparing it early afternoon, used fresh & local ingredients and it tasted fab. Bear in mind: Property is located east bank - very quiet. To get to Luxor town taxi (30min) or boat (10min) have to be used.

The driver from hotel didn’t pick us up at airport. Taxi was 400 Egyptian pounds, got lost multiple times, spoke w hotel owner 2 or 3 times during drive to get directions using our phone. Area is HORRIBLE. We did get 2 beers from owner who was leaving and ‘Hassan’ was in charge. The rooms don’t have numbers. We were on 3rd floor in a “deluxe suite”, no elevator, dim lights, toilet didn’t have water on, took Hassan several trys to get it on. Hot tub on roof terrace but door was bolted. Interior stair lights stay on 1.5 minute then you have to press the button again. Mosquitoes in room. 1970’s bedspread and matted rug. We used the 2 ‘ottomans’ as luggage racks, brought plastic chairs from balcony to sit on. There was a mini fridge with 2 juice boxes and 4 canned drinks, 2 burner stove top, sink in the “kitchenette “. No bottled water, no cups, plates, silverware, no coffee maker, no pot or pan: nada zip zero. Lizard in the bathroom running up the wall. There is nothing outside this house that I’d even remotely walk to. And knowing what rough dirt roads and the distance we traveled to get here I’d not even consider trying to take a cab anywhere after dark. Dinner was nice: beef stew and chicken stew, rice, pita, tahini, salad, broth soup, and dates, guava, and melon for dessert served on 2nd floor balcony w great view and laundry drying on a rack, very low light, we used our cell phones to identify everything. No hot water in shower. Breakfast: flies, stale bread, bad coffee. We turned down offer for omelet and told the waiter/cook/driver we were leaving. We asked what we owed for last night’s dinner and he said, “Don’t worry about the dinner” (we were prepaid here for 3 days). We moved to an east side hotel.
