Known as "awamas" the 30 or so houseboats of Kit Kat are akin to oases in the Arab world's largest city, known after one of the more infamous cabarets from the colonial period, the Kit Kat Club. Staying at the Nile Houseboat was a lot of fun! The owner Dan is very relatable and knowledgeable about places to visit and food to try in Cairo. Dan has really some great stories to tell! The house is located in a very convenient location for taxis or for walking around Zamalek (easy 10 minute walk to Brazil Street). We...

This place is great. We intended to stay at the Hotel Longchamps but it was full, so we took a chance on the houseboat and loved it. Booked 2 rooms. We spent our time on the shared balcony staring out at the Nile. It was lovely, an oasis. While the rest of Cairo was smogged out, we breathed fresh air....

A visit on the houseboat on the Nile offers you a unique experience. The over all feeling is cosy living , warmth and elegance combined with a great view over the nile as well as walking distance to the center of the town (if you don't mind a walk!) For the more comfortable guest the taxis stop right outside the...

It was a real treat to get back and relax with a beer on the balcony overlooking the Nile. The crazy traffic and intense mood of Cairo felt very far away, even...

“Bay window room is best and cheaper. Double room has the only double bed, with a small private balcony off to the side. Garden room has no view, except it doesn't really matter because you spend all your time on the shared balcony anyway.”
