I had booked the hotel on the recommendation of a travel agent in Saudi Arabia where I live and work. I arrived by taxi from the airport - my first experience of mad Cairo driving. I was glad to get there in one piece. I had already paid for the hotel and presented the receptionist (a pleasant young woman with...

I reserved the hotel and I specified I wanted an upper floor because of the noise. At check in they gave me a first floor room. When I objected they said they had a tenth floor room free but that I would have to pay an extra USD 30 per night. If this is their normal procedure I find it...

I stayed for two nights and, yes, by Cairo standards it seems to be a good-value and well-located hotel (Zamalek is relatively quiet and leafy). Medium size, not the boring standard Hilton/Marriott/Sheraton offering, and does what it needs to do - provide a clean room, edible food and some level of comfort. That said, as many other reviewers have noted,...

This hotel would be a great site for a movie. Just add some big cars, mutton chops and Scarface types. I wasn't super psyched to pay $150 a night for this place but it was the going rate in high season. We stayed in at least 4 hotels in Cairo and most were overpriced for what you got. However, this...

The hotel is located in a nice area, the staff were friendly, and room service was good. Also the rooms were clean. The breakfast was decent. Overall experience was very good.

I stayed at the Flamenco, twice, once in May 2008 and once in May 2009, both times on work. Both times I had rooms on the upper floors - which are the renovated ones. Make sure your room is on the 8th floor or above. A colleague who was in a room on the 5th floor came to mine to...

Not sure how a Cairo hotel gets a name like Flamenco, anyway, this is a respectable hotel situated by the Nile. It's part of a chain, but you wouldn't really know it - the reception, restaurant and bar display a modicum of local character. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed and have balconies, but make sure you book a Nile-side...

I had a split stay around a trip to Luxor. The first visit was 3 days and I stayed in a room on the side of the building away from the Nile. The bed seemed to have been built out of concrete - in all my years visiting hotels I have never experienced a bed as hard. It was also...

Ok, so admittedly I stayed in this awful joint for a long period so was able to experience the exceptionally poor service on a daily basis. The only reason I stayed is that it is close to my work. Nevertheless, do not go into this hotel with any positive expectations. If something doesn't work in your room (which will likely...
