Stayed for 6 nights in a deluxe two bedroom apartment and everything we needed was in place. Clean, comfortable beds and great location. The buffet breakfast provided was just nice and the serviced staff were very helpful. The front desk staff knowledge of the surrounding area was not very good and would recommend more attention is given to be more...

We had three rooms here for about a week's stay visiting family. Clean, quiet and comfortable with access to English-speaking staff. Kitchenette has everything you need including a large fridge. Spent many hours using the room as a remote office with decent WIFI connectivity (free). Breakfast is a great deal and convenient to not have to leave the building to...

Our initial visit to Seoul started with a four night stay at this hotel. Clean, helpful staff, everybody spoke English (a pleasant surprise). Great location near two palaces, maybe one of the most admired Buddhist Temples in Seoul, and a very short stroll to the Insadong neighborhood. Breakfast buffet was a pretty traditional Western style offering but there were numerous...

The Somerset is ideally located and is very affordable while still being very nice. Close to Insadong and the main tourist areas of Seoul but its quiet and has a wonderful garden to relax in. The rooms are large and well appointed.

The hotel couldn't be any closer to the temples of Seoul, a short stroll to the Blue House as well as many other highlights of downtown Seoul. Friendly staff made the stay even more enjoyable. The beds are a touch on the hard side.

The hotel is located near old town and palace, within walking distance. We stayed in one-bedroom executive apartment. Room was a bit old but well furnished plus kitchenette and washer/dryer. The hotel has couple of good restaurants looking out to its pretty backyard with beautiful flowers. Chrystal Jade offered good Chinese. There are G25 minimart and a sandwich place in...

Staying in Gwanghwamun / Jongno

Neighbourhood Profile
Gwanghwamun / Jongno
If Gwanghwamun is the unofficial living room of Seoul, Jongno is the main hallway connecting some of Seoul’s most important historic sites and neighbourhoods. Being one of Seoul’s oldest neighbourhoods, the area is rich with history and culture in its palaces, shrines, and temples. Stand in the centre of Gwanghwamun Square with Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Bugak in front of you, King Sejong the Great statue behind you, and modern office buildings encircling you—it’s one of the best ways to experience both past and present Seoul in one spot. The main street of Jongno is mostly dotted with restaurants and cafes, but explore deeper within its intricate alleys to pass decades-old restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and pojangmachas (tents that open at night for quick bites and drinks) and life seems to run just as it did a decade or two ago. Don’t forget to stop at Gwangjang Market, Korea’s oldest traditional market, where it’s just as fun to explore as it is to eat the affordable market dishes that locals have been enjoying since the market first opened in 1905. For a break from urban life, walk along the restored Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs parallel to Jongno for a moment of natural refuge in metropolitan Seoul.
