The room quite small. Also the bathroom was small n slippery, so should be extra careful when take a bath. The design was simple. Breakfast was ok with the unlimited fresh grilled bacon. Wifi was good. Apparently someone was smoke inside the room so the smoke detector made the fire alarm rang 3x. Made all the guests panicked during our...

Amazing stay in Ibis Ambassador Insadong. We feel confortable and safe with the surrounding. The room is big and we got a nice view from the room. Location : very convenient. Walk out from the hotel can easily get a taxi, or a mere 10-minute walk to 2 subway stations (Jongno-3 ga or Anguk). There is also a free hotel...

The hotel is in a great location for visiting the 3 palaces, pagoda park and insadong street. Offers a free shuttle to some locations which is handy and good for those not brave enough to use the subway It is easy to get anywhere in Seoul from the hotel using subway and airport bus stop is a few blocks away....

During my trip to Korea, I stayed in 3 hotels, a guesthouse, a vacation rental, a private villa and a private condo. The longest stay was at the Ibis. It is down a little street, one you wouldn't expect such a large facility to be at. I only had 1 complaint... I lost my key on the last night of...

Same room layout as every other IBIS. Breakfast mediocre, if you don't have time constraints go further afield. Restaurant doesn't seem to open at other times (barbecue on roof during Spring/Summer, but that's not much use if it's raining...). Very small bar with limited options. It is what you expect from an IBIS- the staff at the desk are very...

A nice basic tourist hotel with an outstanding location in Seoul. No need for including breakfast in your stay, since you can't swing your suitcase without knocking over a dusin of eateries right outside the hotel entrance.

Can't compare it to other hotels in Korea, but it's the best Ibis we've stayed at so far globally. Everything looks fairly new. Our room was slightly bigger than expected and certainly big enough for two, the bathroom was clean and didn't feel cramped. The staff was friendly and super polite. The views from the upper floors (goes up to...

Staying in Gwanghwamun / Jongno

Neighbourhood Profile
Gwanghwamun / Jongno
If Gwanghwamun is the unofficial living room of Seoul, Jongno is the main hallway connecting some of Seoul’s most important historic sites and neighbourhoods. Being one of Seoul’s oldest neighbourhoods, the area is rich with history and culture in its palaces, shrines, and temples. Stand in the centre of Gwanghwamun Square with Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Bugak in front of you, King Sejong the Great statue behind you, and modern office buildings encircling you—it’s one of the best ways to experience both past and present Seoul in one spot. The main street of Jongno is mostly dotted with restaurants and cafes, but explore deeper within its intricate alleys to pass decades-old restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and pojangmachas (tents that open at night for quick bites and drinks) and life seems to run just as it did a decade or two ago. Don’t forget to stop at Gwangjang Market, Korea’s oldest traditional market, where it’s just as fun to explore as it is to eat the affordable market dishes that locals have been enjoying since the market first opened in 1905. For a break from urban life, walk along the restored Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs parallel to Jongno for a moment of natural refuge in metropolitan Seoul.
