We read the earlier reviews and were prepared for something out of the ordinary but were still quite the fumbling guests upon check in. After getting used to the automated controls for everything, we appreciated other merits e.g. that it was a large room for the price and location, that the bed was comfortable, that there were two complimentary cans...

The hotel was just around the corner of GS25, across from Namdaemun market. There are lots of restaurants and cafes along the road so we had lots of options. Myeongdong is just a stroll away and the airport bus is just outside bank of korea. Namdaemun is just across the main road and I think the nearest train station was...

No real lights in the big black bathroom, huge tub, strangest toilet ever (Elvis style with panel for heat, bidé, fan etc), computer in the room, free wifi and odd breakfast. Fun - but more of an experience than a pleasant stay.

Location is very convenient to subways and airport bus.. Just a 5-7 minute walk and you're there! Since this is a busy street, Restaurants, bars and coffee shop are all over the area. There is a 24hour noodle house just a few steps from the hotel, problem is there is no english name:( though just look for a korean character...

My parents & I stayed at Hotel Irene twice. On our first leg of the trip in Seoul, we were shocked to see that there were NO DOORS (privacy) for the bathroom (with the exception of the toilet). It was pretty unbearable to have my parents leave the room & take a stroll around the district while i showered. Our...

We reserved 3 nights at Hotel Irene for our 4-day Seoul trip. When we checked in the hotel, we were told that they didn't have room of our reserved grade for 3 nights. So they "upgraded" our room for the first night and we were required to move on the second night. This is just unacceptable as no one would...

Located within a 5 minute walk to a few surrounding subways, this hotel is also right across the road from the crazy Namdaemun markets. It is a 10 minute walk to the popular Myeong Dong district which is crammed with youth fashion stores, street markets and delicious restaurants. Having said this, it seemed to be in street popular with "business...

I didn't expect much from this place, but the price was good amd it was well located, so I booked it as i really knew nothing about Korea. Of course it's not 5 star, but the room is oversized, very clean and well serviced. The decor is simple and a bit kooky, but then again, so is Korea. It does...

The hotel is compact and has black as it's theme colour. We were allocated a room well-equiped with pc, a T-shape writing desk, 2 office arm chairs and even a sizable jaccuzi. The counter staff is approachable but not warm and friendly. The bathroom has insufficient lighting. And the shower is just next to the only basin without any enclosure....

Staying in Myeongdong / Namdaemun

Neighbourhood Profile
Myeongdong / Namdaemun
Arguably Seoul’s most famous neighbourhood and undoubtedly one of its most popular, Myeongdong takes shopping and eating to new heights, with hundreds of shops, restaurants, and cafes all stacked on top of one another. The rise in popularity of Korean cosmetics, fashion, and more has made this area a must-see for visitors who come and marvel at Myeongdong’s often frenetic pace and energy. Lotte and Shinsaegae’s massive department stores are also popular draws for both Korean and luxury products. The department stores, just like Myeongdong’s streets, are crowded around the clock. Myeongdong’s many street food carts are also immensely popular for their inexpensive and quirky offerings (French-fry-encrusted corn dogs, anyone?). The neighbourhood’s popularity, as well as its close proximity to other popular sights and neighbourhoods, makes it one of Seoul’s most popular places to stay.
