Al Mutlaq is a hotel with over 300 spacious rooms. I stayed in a fully carpetted "singles" room which was quite big with a good sized bed and wonderfully comfortable mattresses and pillows and enough space in the closet to empty my suitcase.Toilets are clean and spacious with toiletries replenished every day. Towels, linen are fresh and are replaced as and when found to be consumed. Hot running water which is always available (need to run the tap for a few seconds before stepping into the bath).
The rooms comes with standard frills like a mini bar, TV (limited channels) and central air conditioning powerful enough to make a penguin freeze. The room also had an additional settee where you could sit and work or laze down watching TV. Room service has a limited menu but is very prompt on delivery and the service is available 24/7
Staff is one of the most courteous I've come across in a long time. Always available for assistance and fulfill any requests. Most places are easily accessible and cabs are always available at the front. Check-in Check-out is smooth and doesn't take much time. Although, I didn't reserve in advance, they were most happy to receive me.
Downstairs, the lobby has wonderful ambiance. Furnished with enough comfortable sofas, it provides a good setting for business meetings. Brisk service from the coffee shop means you never have to wait for the beverage you ordered.
The hotel boasts of a gym as well which is actually a facility run by someone else outside the premises. Timings for the gym are odd (the owner doesn't wake up early so bye bye early morning work outs) but equipment is standard and you will not mind working out for a few days.
The hotel provides unlimited, free and fast Internet access to it's guests and there's a Wi-Fi network for you available in every nook and corner of the building.
Along with Al a Carte, the hotel serves breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets at it's restaurant Al Andalus upstairs. The restaurant, again, is open 24/7 to serve you appetite. The only downside I find? The buffets are pricey. Could have done better.
I never tried to visit any other hotel in Riyadh and this being my first visit to KSA after attaining adult hood, I find the hotel to be a little on the expensive side. However, will recommend because of the services rendered and the sleep quality.
The hotel looks clean, fresh and modern and the rooms feel comfortable and tidy. It seems my room had been renovated, as the carpet looks clean and tidy and the bathroom fittings clean and shiny. The bed is very comfortable and the tv and minibar service acceptable, although there's only one English-language channel on the tv.
The food is a real highlight. My colleague and I enjoyed a tasty buffet, with more than sufficient choice to please everyone. We were early for dinner, so everything was still fresh out of the kitchen but I don't know how it would look much later in the evening. When we had dinner, there were few people in the restaurant.
Breakfast, in the same restaurant, has an equally good selection of fresh fruits, pastries, Arabic sweets and mezze as well as an egg cooking station.
Value of money was also excellent. Even though it was Riyadh Season and President Putin and his entourage were in town, we managed to get a good rate at the hotel for four nights.
My only criticism is that hte internet wireless speed in the hotel was sometimes barely sufficient to do any work. I'm not talking about streaming live football; I mean that the internet was so slow that I could barely download emails or browse to knowledge websites. This needs to be improved for business people to stay here more frequently.
Food for breakfast stale, old and in edible.
Overall a bad experience. Maybe 2 star hotel at best.
I would recommend this hotel.
Food was also delicious,I used to visit the restaurant several times during suhoor time.
I would recommend that hotel to anyone visiting Riyadh.
Al Mutlaq a couple of years ago showed a lot of courtesy to guests, and treated them with care and respect, and even when little problems occured, they used to hurry to fix it and do anything to ensure customer satisfaction, lately as others have mentioned, the maintenance started going down hill, some of the staff in the reception seem like they have been instructed to ask you for money for anything and everything, that it has become ridiculous at times.
Examples of the approach i had mentioned includes charging you quite some money for internet use, charging you ridiculous amounts for water, providing over priced bad quality room service, handling our company employees who book no less than 200 nights a year with no attention, requests like extending check out time receive replies that are harsh and demanding extras, their garage has been sealed and you have to get a parking card from the reception which is handed to you with bitterness and resentment just to park your car.
In summary they have been going down hill with regards to maintenance, customer care, interiors, and services and our company has made a conscious decision to stop dealing with this hotel.
My own personal experience which totally turned me off this hotel was when i was staying in the hotel solo, and my wife was staying at her sister's place in Riyadh, and we were out and passed by the hotel, just so that she would change our baby daughter, and then we go down again, and so to maintain proper protocol i informed the reception and showed them her identification, their response was extremely awkward, by demanding that i will have to pay 60 riyals extra, i tried to explain that we'll change the baby and go down, the receptionist insisted and began to question whether i'm trying to get my wife to stay in the hotel for free sneakingly, i was furious and asked for the manager, who talked to the employee, and then told me "why are you upset now, you asked for a favor and we gave you such a favor, now you can move along!"
