We stayed at the Sumahan for 5 nights, were a group of eight. We simply loved the hotel style, the friendliness and professionalism of the staff (Cher Nural mille merci pour tout !!), the location on the peaceful Asian part of beautiful Istanbul. Breakfast. afternoon drinks or dinner at the Sumahan were a delight and the trip through the Bosporus...

I stayed here for 3 nights in July 2011, on business. Arriving early, and jet lagged, the night porter did his best to accommodate me, and eventually got me into a comfortable room around 10 am. Before then, I relaxed by the Bosphorous in the lovely hotel restaurant, which is beautifully located and very peaceful. Watching the cargo boats chug...

My husband and I recently spent 3 nights at the Sumahan. I have only the highest praise for the management of this lovely, quiet, and charming hotel. Our trip to Turkey began inauspiciously with a United airlines flight problem - first a mechanical issue delayed our flight and while the mechanics attempted to fix the problem the United computer system...

We spent 4 days and returned for an addition 5 days of pure bliss. We liked the small size, fabulous view, helpful and friendly staff. They catered to our every wish. The food was superb we ate 3 wonderful dinners while watching the sunset. The health club surpassed my stringent requirements. We plan on returning. Probably best suited for a...

This was our third visit to this marvelous hotel, which was once a distillery. In addition to being in Istanbul, which is an utterly fascinating city, it's sufficiently small and out of the way to be great for just chilling out. It's beautifully decorated, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on the Bosphorus, which is only a few feet away. Eager...

I travel extensively across the world and the Sumahan is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, one of the finest hotels I have ever stayed in. The trip to Istanbul was a surprise for my wife, to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed. The hotel is superb, the design and taste are impeccable, the view on the...

We stayed at Sumahan for just two nights at the end of our trip. We had previously stayed in Sultanhamet so wanted a different perspective from the Asian side. The location is really perfect...great views of the Bosphorus and just steps from the very charming Cengelkoy. We booked one of the loft suites and the room was beautiful. The only...

I stayed at Sumahan with my mother and my aunt for a week to celebrate my mother's birthday. One of the issues we had witht he hotel from the first day was the weird mix of quotes they provide - rooms, taxi quotes, massages are quoted in euros. Food, mini bar, room service are quoted in Lira. Which is it?...

Staying in Uskudar

Neighbourhood Profile
Uskudar
Home to more than half a million residents, Uskudar on the Asian side of the Bosphorus is one of Istanbul’s most densely populated neighbourhoods. Once a Greek colony, later a haven for people from across the Mediterranean and the Middle East, this gateway to Asia has been an active and diverse hub for eons. Still, visitors to Uskudar are often more overcome by its myriad treasures than by its many thousand residents. And with fairytale settings such as the “Maiden’s Tower” as well as grand examples of Ottoman Era architecture, plenty of parks, a gorgeous and lengthy coastline, and some of Turkey’s holiest sites, there’s no end to the sightseeing possibilities. Easily reached from the city’s European shores via a steady network of ferries, time spent in Uskudar reveals a “real life” Istanbul that many who experience find extremely fascinating.
