Friends recommended the Terrace and we were more than satisfied and charmed by this lovely guesthouse in the heart of Sultanahmet. Owner, Dogan Yildirim is wonderful & was so responsive & helpful from the beginning to end. His staff are friendly & attentive as well. We spent 5 nights in the "penthouse", room 8, and though compact, we loved the...

Thank you to Kemal & Dogan for a wonderful time!! We stayed 4 nights in September, as everyone says their hospitality is amazing,so very kind & friendly. Nothing is a problem!!! The location is so central, those views from upstairs incredible!! Breakfast very generous!! On our last morning we had an early departure so Kemal kindly made us food to...

A welcoming, inexpensive place to stay right in the heart of Sultanahmet. The owner Mr. Dogan was super-welcoming to us and treated us like rock stars. He actually helped us out of a jam, when another small guesthouse two doors down double-booked our room and shafted us. We only stayed at the Terrace Guesthouse for one night and had to...

Breakfast with the choice of either overlooking the Bosphorus or the Blue Mosque... tough choice. Our family (two adults and a 12 year old) stayed here twice because it was just too good to miss again. Not far to walk to many major attractions in the Old Town, friendly and truly considerate owners and staff who were able to anticipate...

Stayed at Terrace with my wife and 12 year old son. Great little guest house, with a wonderful family feel. Located in a great part of Sultanahmet. Loved breakfast on the roof looking over the bosphorus on one side and the blue mosque on the other. Right beside the awesome Palatium coffee house and cafe.. A must-see with the glass...

The guesthouse has a great location, just steps from Sultanahmet but on a quiet street with a few nice restaurants around. Dogan and Kemal, who run the guesthouse, are unfailingly friendly and informative. I had a great room with a patio, tv, and wifi for less than 100 dollars a night. Breakfast is served on the terrace with great views...

Stunning views from the terrace of the Sea of Marmara, Asian Istanbul, Aya Sofya and the Blue Mosque.  Dogan and Kemal were great sources of information about how to get around and what to do in the fascinating city of Istanbul.  I must have asked more questions than the average guest and was always responded to with friendliness and patience....

You wanted to stay in Sultanahmet because it's the old city, and full of good tourist attractions. The Terrace Guesthouse staff is very helpful, knowledgeable about the area, and they speak very good English. It's small, very clean, and impossible for those with mobility challenges as it has a spiral staircase that runs through the core of the building. Breakfast...

We had a fabulous stay; the Terrace Guesthouse was all we had hoped for. Super-friendly, relaxed, interesting hosts made us feel at home and even tucked a bottle of wine into our bedroom on my birthday. Best shower we've ever found in a hotel. Perfect location but no 'pushy' tourist feel. Go stay with them... you won't be disappointed!

Having booked into another hotel which turned out to be completely inappropriate to our needs, we ended up hitting the streets of Sultanahmet, in peak season, to try and find a place to stay for 3 nights. While The Terrace Guesthouse wasn't the cheapest option we found, we chose them because the staff were lovely and the room was comfortable...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
