Booked the Zeynep Sultan for a week-long stay after reading reviews on this site. I agree with most other visitors that the location is excellent (quiet-ish side street smack bang in the middle of Sultanahmet) and the personnel most friendly. The owner made a real point of mingling with the guests at breakfast and gave useful tips on how to...

Four of us stayed for 5 days, wonderful position, 5 minutes walk from the Blue Mosque, Haghia Sophia and many other interesting places. Rooms were reasonable size, bathroom a little small but we don't (we hope!) spend a lot of time in a bathroom on holiday. Everything spotlessly clean. We were in Room 304, with a very restful view of...

We are just back from Istanbul having stayed 6 nights at the Zeynep Sultyan Hotel from 26th August - 01 September. Two weeks before arrival we reconfirmed our booking and were advised we could only get the twin room for 5 nights - and asked us nicely if we would agree to a 6th night at the neighbouring AND hotel...

03/Sep/06 From Athens Greece -Yiannis and Catriona. I booked this hotel after reading the reviews in this site. We stayed for 6 nights, the last week of July after booking for 4 nights and if there had been rooms available we would stay longer. Next time for sure. I dont want to repeat all the positive coments that are mentioned...

I spent three nights at Zeynep Sultan last week and I would definitely stay there again. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the owner, Adam, made the place seem more like home than almost any hotel I've ever stayed at. When I told him of my interest in Byzantine culture, he took me to the cellar below the hotel...

I can't believe some of the negative reviews on this hotel, for example "voice of dissent" , "abysmal" and others. Are we referring to the same hotel? I stayed at the Zeynep Sultan in April 2006 with my family and we had an excellent time. It was exactly what I expected, having research various hotels before booking. The hotel is...

I recently stayed at the Zeynep Sultan before heading off to a month long stint at Bosphorus University. Last year, my husband and I stayed there while we were in Istanbul on vacation. We loved it then and I was pleased when I returned as a single female traveler. While Abe's (the owner) hospitality greatly added to our experience last...

Firstly let me say that I have waited over one month to write this review purely because I wanted to provide as an unbiased review as possible which was (at least to a large extent) free from the anger and disgust which I felt following our stay at this hotel. Having said this, whenever I recall our stay at the...

We stayed in Zeynep Sultan in July after reading the wonderful reviews in Tripadvisor and had a somewhat mixed experience. I think that something to bear in mind is that it is a 2 to 2½ star establishment which is not always clear, given the reviews and the position in tripadvisor (number 2 at the time we booked). Pros: -This...

I cannot get over the negative posts regarding the size of the rooms at the Zeynep Sultan...in any case, how much time do you spend in your hotel while in Istanbul???? From reading some posts, I was expecting a super cramped room a la New York City. We had a room with 2 single beds pushed together...plenty of space...a view...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The cradle of civilization...Turkey...From Hitites to Urartus, Phrygians to Lycians, from Romans to Seljuks...They all lived here. A city that gave birth to and fostered three glorious empires...The East Roman empire, the Byzantine empire and the Ottoman empire...Once the capital city of these empires, Istanbul is still alive and breathing a mystical blend of air, weary of the contemprary urbanization and cultural clashes. Zeynep Sultan Hotel is where you will blend a magical potion from a Roman hippodrome, an Egyptian obelisque, a Byzantine Church and an Ottoman Grand Bazaar. And maybe you will top it with the Blue Mosque or the Topkapi Palace... ... more   less
