Six of stayed here and had mixed reactions but mostly liked it, some of us very much. With a great location, we never bought bus or rail tickets to reach popular local attractions, saving us money. We thought the staff was quick to respond to requests and readily available. All six of us were content with their free breakfast. The...

We stayed in Santa Sophia hotel for 6 days. The staff is friendly, rooms are clean and cozy. The location is great - very close to Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace, Basilica, Blue Mosque and other places of interest.

If you are wanting to see the spectacular sites of old Istanbul then this hotel is perfectly situated. All you need to see, including the Bosphorus, is within easy walking distance. Set in a narrow street it is a short walk to the top of the hill where the tram line passes, so wherever you are if you find this...

We arranged to see the sights and sounds of Istanbul for 1 week in June. The hotel is conveniently situated in the old part of Sultanamet near all the usual tourist attractions. Our room was clean but dark and dingy. The small little tv hardly worked. There was one skimpy little blanket on the bed. The breakfast was a daily...

The hotel is well positioned, close to Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and Grand Bazaar. The rooms are extremely clean, comfortable and cosy. As when I first got my room I did not like it, as it had a view to a small backyard, I asked for a change and I got one with the street view the next morning. I...

After booking this hotel I realized it was not the one I had been reading about - there is another Santa Sophia Hotel in Istanbul. That made me nervous as this one had no reviews. However, the experience was quite pleasant. First of all, the hotel is located in Sultanahmet. As a first time visitor I was happy with the...

I have stayed at this hotel for many years now, and always feel like I'm returning "home." It's quiet, comfortable, easy walking distance from all the main sites and the tram, and the staff is so friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet has a nice variety also, and I love the cigar bourek especially. I plan to stay here on...

Just off the main road, five minutes from the tourist throng, this is a place for the experienced cost-conscious traveller who can cope with a bit of ethnic reality. The side streets of Istanbul are not everyone's delight, but give a glimpse to the not-so-recent past and the realities of life for the population. A good hotel keeps itself up...

Overall it was alright for our needs. We only stayed one night so the quirks weren't an issue. The view we had faced a run down apartment building with trash in the lot. I would highly recommend asking for a view of the street and a non smoking room. There is also another quirk about the air conditioning and lights....

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
