Pros: prime location, right near the restaurants, cafes, and major sites in the Old Quarter, clean rooms, rooftop dining for breakfast with good views of the Bosphorus. There were no downsides to the hotel but no memorable upsides other than the location -- that's why I would recommend it as a solid, no frills choice in the Old Quarter but...

Great location, friendly staff, really nice rooms---all you could ask for in a small inexpensive priced inn. Thank you for the great hospitality you gave us:):):)

After many hours of searching I came upon the The Alp and it was what I was seeking. Quaint, simple, in a good location. Not over decorated or plush. The Alp has a fresh peaceful style and allows the original architecture to shine. From the easy pick up at the airport to check in and unwinding after a long journey,...

PERFECT LOCATION: Recommended to everyone who visits Istanbul for the first time and has all the Sultanahmet historical sights in mind. Located on the quiet street in the heart of Sultanahmet. Take tram and tunel and in 20 min you will be in Beyoglu (Isticlal cadesi for shopping and nice cafes) or take tram and ferry and in 30 min...

I stayed here with three friends at the beginning of a 2 week trip around Turkey. We started off our trip in Istanbul and stayed here for the first three days. Everyone was arriving to Istanbul at different times during the day, the hotel staff was very accommodating and helpful when we needed their help. They also let us use...

I was able to get a last minute booking at this guesthouse for my Thanksgiving jaunt to Istanbul. It is located conveniently in tourist-friendly Sultanahmet on a cul-de-sac with great views of the sea. The guesthouse had recently undergone a renovation and my hardwood-floored room was nicely equipped with a canopy bed. Awaking to windows with a view of the...

A friend and I stayed here in October and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed the first few nights across the street at Sebnem. However, they were not able to accomodate us on the last night (we were already aware of this when we booked) and Hotel Alp graciously took us in for 70 Euros for a large very clean...

Pros: - A good deal for the price (we paid 70 euros/night). - Excellent rooftop terrace - views over the Bosphorus. - Nice fresh breakfast (on the terrace). - Friendly staff. - Good location for accessing the sights in Sultanahmet (by the way, if you love food then take my advice and do NOT bother eating anywhere in Sultanahmet -...

We stayed here 3 years ago and again this time for one week - we found it to be close to the "tourist sites" but not right on the busy restaurant streets, therefore quiet for sleeping. Be prepared for the sunrise call to prayer!! The rooftop terrace was a great spot for breakfast or late night viewing of the city...

We spent 4 comfortable nights at Hotel Alp. The rooms were pleasantly furnished and exceptionally clean with the unexpected bonus of a fridge and tv! Double-glazing even meant we didn't hear the 5am call to prayer on two nights (first time across Turkey). Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Our only gripe was the breakfast. The miserable-looking, insipid food was...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.

“From the window of room 404 you can see the top of Hagia Sophia over the neighboring buildings. The floors are wooden, so upper levels can be quieter if you prefer not to hear people walking around.”
