If location, quality & service mean anything, this is the place...in years of visiting Istanbul I can't imagine staying anywhere else...prices are good, includes trip from airport...always a friendly welcome, with service to match...early morning breakfast (included w/room) has a fresh & quality assortment that should satisfy most folks...how can you beat breakfast with a 360 degree view (with sights,...

We stayed at the Valide Sultan for a week and had a great holiday. The hotel is small and very personal and has superb views especially from the roof top restaurant. Breakfast is varied, with very attentive service and the bread rolls really appetising. All staff were very helpful and friendly. It has a wonderful location just beside Hagia Sophia,...

Firstly the staff were extremely friendly and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. Secondly the location is excellent walking distance to most attractions. We complained firstly about the tiny size of the room, the horrid smell in the bathroom and the fact that the air conditioning was set to heat and could not be changed, even though...

Rick Steves lists the hotel in his recommended list. We were glad we took his advice. The triangular rooftop breakfast/dining room has stunning views. The Sea of Marmara at one side, then the Bosphorus, and then around to the Hagia Sophia. The rooms are above the lobby on the 1st, 2nd and 3d floors, with the restaurant on the 4th....

I highly recommend this hotel to those who want a small, personal hotel. Turkish style, perfectly situated with very nice rooms and reception. Also a small garden outside and a wonderful roof terrace where breakfast and other food i served. Very good service, lovely breakfast and very clean and reasonable prices.

Just returned from 6x-days trip to Istanbu. Lived in Valide Sultan hotel. The hotel has greate position - just two minutes walk from the Topkapy entrance. In adddition there is a splendid view to Ayasophia from some roomes on the second and apparently also on the third floor (we stayed in 201 and our friends in 203). Rooms are pretty...

Topkapi Palace entrance is 200 feet away. Blue Mosque is 7 minute walk. Hagia Sophia is 3 minute walk. Many (touristy) restaurants are around the corner. Third floor rooms have a gorgeous view of Hagia Sophia and Sea of Marmara. Rooftop restaurant has an additional view of Blue Mosque. The rooms are pretty, freshly painted, but very, very small (have...

Just returned from a week in Istanbul where we were very well looked after by the Hotel staff. They were friendly, welcoming, efficient and amusing, and we couldn't have wished for better. The room was smallish but perfectly formed, immaculately clean and beautifully decorated, the bed was comfortable and the large shower was wonderful after a hard day's sightseeing. Breakfast...

We stayed in this perfect location for 10 days and couldn't have been more pleased with the room and facilities, its affordability for the quality, and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. All were eager to offer suggestions and came to understand that our particular interests were in the history, architecture, and archaeology of Istanbul rather than in evening...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
