Highly recommend Portus House and the area of Karakoy. The hotel is in a great location, not far from Taksim, and with easy access to the old town (short walk or T1 tram). We switched to this side of town after spending our first few nights in Sultanahmet, and much preferred this location! Rooms and facilities are clean and nice,...

I wasn't sure about sharing a bathroom, but its shared only with one another room, and never saw them, so that was fine. Top floor, very quiet room. Clean. Room size was on par for a European hotel room. Great, friendly, helpful staff. Super price. Great location in youngish hip section of Istanbul with cafes, funky shops, great restaurants and...

Great location and very helpful staff. We had the en-suite room on the top floor and found it to be a reasonable size and very clean. Portus House is located on a comparatively quiet back street so very little noise. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend to others.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Portus House and feel it represents very good value for money. The two main assets of this hotel are its location (close to Karakoy port and Galata bridge) and the staff who are extremely helpful. Bear in mind it is a budget option - the rooms are small but nevertheless they are spotlessly clean...

We wanted to extend our stay in Istanbul though not all rooms we required were available in our original hotel. So two rooms had to venture to the Portus. A great location with wonderful staff.ç Modest accommodation with humble prices. We never regretted it. Cute little place recommended for younger travellers who spend most of their times outside. What was...

We stayed in the family room for 3 nights during our trip in September 2014. The room is very big and clean. It was a very comfortable stay for us. The staff was very helpful to provide us with useful information and helping us with the luggage. The location is very good, within walking distance from tram station.

Located very close to the Bosphorus and Galata Bridge, the location is great for visiting the sights in Istanbul. The rooms are newly renovated, clean and with a personal style (although fairly small). The staff are extremely helpful and super friendly, and the breakfast is really great! Very good value for the money, definitely recommended!

Staying in Karakoy

Neighbourhood Profile
Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
