We just got back from a 10 days trip to Istanbul where we stayed at the cozy Djem Hotel. The hotel is located very close to the blue mosque and within 5 mns walk to Sultanahmet tramway station which is ideal to visit the old part of Istanbul and, after a tramway trip or a ferry, other parts of the...

This hotel is in the perfect location for access to many popular sites. In addition, you are close to public transportation so you can venture out. It is across from a school and I felt very safe in this area. The hotel was very clean and had a delicious and healthy free breakfast each morning. The owners were very sweet...

The Djem is a high quality establishment and a friendly haven in Istanbul staffed with wonderful people in a unbeatable location. Location -- The hotel shares its boundary wall with the south western wall of the Blue Mosque. From some of the rooms you get a direct view of the Blue Mosque. It is on a relatively quiet street in...

Stayed here on a return trip for 2 nights. Room was spacious and clean and comfortable. Boutique hotel is well located for seeing the major sites. The owner was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about local places to visit and restaurants to try. The breakfasts were expansive and filling. Loved the different local pastries. Would definitely recommend this hotel!

I was in Istanbul for the jazz festival - the Djem is like a family home, once you are there, you might as well just hang around, read a book or watch a film, coz it is so relaxing - nevertheless Istanbul is just outside the door and you don;t want to miss it, but once you ar tired from running...

We were welcomed late in afternoon and were met with very kind and pleasant service and a cup of tea and some nice good cakes, so the start couldn't be better. We also got a good deal of useful information at the same time. Our room was in the upper floor, every room had its personal design in nice Turkish...

We booked Hotel DJEM in March (for June) because of Tripadvisors high ratings, and the hotels close proximity to historical sites. On arrival, we were told that we were allocated a room on the ground floor, in an extension of the hotel close by. However, when we returned after a walkabout, we were advised that there was maintenance work taking...

My boyfriend and I stayed here for four nights and absolutely loved it. The location couldn't be better -- adjacent to the Blue Mosque and the Arasta Bazaar and within 5 - 10 minutes walk to every site in Sultanahmet. We also had no problem getting to the tram lines from here when we wanted to venture a little further...

We were unlucky as we didn't realize the room we had booked over the net was some 10 min walk from the hotel. So we got off on the wrong foot with the manager, however when we sorted that out the "apart-suite" was ok. The staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was good. TV didn't work in the room. The...

Djem is a little B&B in a renovated Ottoman house, everything is new--the rooms are clean, the bathrooms have new fixtures, the breakfast is great with lots of selections. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Location is a block from the hippodrome, close to everything, tram is only 2 blocks away. We were very pleased with our stay there.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
