Great place for those traveling by themselves. Easy to meet people at the common areas (bar and restaurant). Location is great, steps from Ayasofia and blue mosque. Staff is helpful and respectful. Breakfast is not the best neither showers-washrooms but its on budget! It can get a bit noisy because of the bar but not that much. Try to avoid...

We had booked a twin room. on the website they show fairly basic but nice enough rooms with twin beds. what we got was a dark depressing room with bunk beds, it felt like a prison cell. It was nothing like the website. I understand this place is a hostel. but we had paid over hostel prices. there are loads...

After extensive research, primarily on Tripadvisor.com, I concluded that this was the best hostel for overnighting when I escorted my handicapped 84-year old mother on an Overseas Odyssey 07JUN-10AUG2014, with Istanbul as the hinge in our travels West to WalesGBR, East to Hong KongCHN. It is NOT wheelchair-accessible,but if using a cane as does my mother, it's OK, though the...

Great location, stone-throw away from Sultanahmet (Blue Mosque). Akbiyik Cad is a buzzing street with loads of hostels and bars and it just comes alive at night. The breakfast is pretty basic but it does its job, the rooms are fairly big (stayed at a 6 bed female ensuite) and it just all felt really safe. The hostel has its...

The hostel is well-maintained and reasonably priced. The reception staff were friendly and didn't try (too hard) to sell us partner trips etc. which was a nice change. Rooms were pretty standard but clean and comfortable.

Sultan Hostel is located within 5 minutes of the Blue Mosque and Haiga Sophia. It is also around the corner form the basilica cistern and other sights within Sutanahmet. The hotel is great is you want to be near the center of Istanbul and all the sites. Location could not be better. The hostel restaurant is the best and liveliest spot on the street. Backpackers are out at all hours. The halls can be noisy at night but very quiet in the morning. We had a basement room which...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
