Our group recently stayed here when we were thrown out of the Oguzkent Hotel due to a CIS conference. Like most 5 star hotels in Ashgabat the decor is quite over the top. We had luxury rooms that were quite nice. Breakfast does not reflect a 5 star property at all as the selection was somewhat poor. Reception staff are quire attentive and there is someone who always speaks English. Location is on the outskirts of town but since you really need a car to get around this city it should not be that much of a problem. If you can get a good rate this is a fine choice for accommodation.
We had a 3 day / 2 night tour in Turkmenistan with Owadan Tours (highly recommend them. You can see my separate review.) After spending the night in very basic accommodations in Darvaza Crater, this was much appreciated. Our guide brought us here around noon. We were quickly checked in to Room 711. They took our passport and made copies. During our time there (October 31), I did not see any other guest. The lobby is massive with a huge chandelier and large portrait of the President. Since we left the hotel at 4:50 am the next morning, we did not visit the restaurant. However, they did pack a sandwich for us to take. Our room was good other than the stained carpet. It was everything you would expect in a 5 star hotel. Slippers, bathrobes, hair dryer. Plenty of hot water with good pressure. However, water would leak out of the shower. We were told by Owadan we would need to pay a USD 2 per person tourist tax but they never took any additional money from us. Overall, it was a good stay.…
As is typical in the Las Vegas-like vibe common in Ashgabat, there's an overabundance of marble, gilt and chandeliers in hotel common areas. Turkministan has similarities to reclusive North Korea. We were cautioned that rooms were 'bugged' and to be discreet in comments about the country and their president. Rooms facing the street must draw curtains shut in the morning and evening when the president drives by. Despite these quirks you'll find rooms are large with a spacious bathroom. Wi-fi is spotty and many social media sites are blocked. The breakfast buffet is quite extensive, just be prepared for instant Nescafe coffee.
Amazing, beautiful luxurious hotel, with almost no one there. White marble of course, everywhere. Golden chandeliers, plush furnishings and beautiful big rooms. Lovely comfortable bed, good air conditioning, TV with heaps of channels, lounge chairs, writing desk and study chair. Good size bathroom with shower over bath and great water pressure, took a bit to work out how to turn it on though. Free WiFi available but almost everything is blocked. Restaurant on 16th floor had a good selection and reasonable prices. The staff were friendly but not really confident with groups of people. It took awhile to get our meals. Breakfast was plentiful, staff only to pleased to help. Beautiful swimming pool. A little way from the centre of the city but it wouldn't matter where you stayed in Ashgabad you need a driver. …
