Detailed Reviews
This was a fantastic hotel for our 8 days in UB.
The rooms are large, clean and the hotel could not be any more ideally located.
One receptionist (during the daytime) has great English and is amazingly friendly and helpful. Sadly this drops off when she goes home at 7pm.
The restaurant is good, if a little variable.
My biggest issue was that the restaurant staff have their meal, together, in the middle of meal service. This meant for that 30 minute window we could not order our drinks or meals as they 9all) sat around eating while we sat waiting for service. If they had staggered this it would have been ok…but they didn’t.
Despite this I still recommend the hotel.

I stayed at the Urgoo Boutique Hotel and found my stay to be pleasant. The rooms were nice with a large space and spacious bathroom. For the most part the bed was comfortable and everything in the room was useful and clean. The front lobby was my only negative about the hotel, there was hardly any staff there. When I checked in, I had to wait like 15 minutes for someone to show up. Then often times, there was nobody there. Breakfast was included, it was just ok, don't expect much. I recommend this hotel for their rooms and location.

We stayed in Urgoo Boutique Hotel for eight nights during Naadam Festival 2019. The location is the best we can have in UB. We can walk everywhere from the hotel, even to the stadium for Naadam or to Seoul Street for the restaurants and bars. The room (403) is very spacious and well-equipped (there is a small kitchen, but no dishes). The bathroom is perfect. The breakfast (included) should be improved with more options or a small buffet in the restaurant. We booked many months in advance, because of Naadam. We reconfirmed the reservation many times before our arrival. When we checked in at the hotel, we were told to pay the whole stay AND a "city tax". During the reservation process and the reconfirmations, we were not told about this tax. One week before, we had stayed at another hotel in UB (New West Hotel) and we were not told to pay this tax. We understand that some hotels in the world charge city taxes, but it must be informed when you book the room. In general, the staff is very, very friendly. UB is a good place to visit and if I come back, I will stay again in Urgoo, I recommend it!!

This is a nice small hotel and I very much enjoyed my stay. The staff were all helpful and friendly to me. I always felt welcome. My room was comfortable and the bathroom was modern and stylish. It took a long time for the hot water to reach the shower, but I was patient and it finally arrived.
The restaurant was excellent and breakfast was a delight. The wi-fi worked very well for me.
The location was perfect. The hotel is on a quiet street facing a small park with many attractive restaurants along the street. I enjoyed several dining options nearby - Peruvian, Korean, International - all very tasty. The hotel is just a block off the main square and very convenient for walking around the city center.
The hotel staff was always friendly and helpful, giving me advice about directions, restaurant options, travel to the airport, etc. I stayed in the hotel at the beginning of my time in Mongolia and at the end of my time. It was a very good experience for me.

Well, not my hotel, of course, but the one I was staying in, the Urgoo Hotel. She looked stunning, even more beautiful than she did in Paris, 15 years ago. She was accompanied by a burly fellow who looked me up and down and snorted.. This is Bildop, she said. My husband. He speaks no English.
That was a start. I had no interest in Bildop. Can't he go fetch something? I asked. I must talk to you. Bildop snorted again, as if he caught my drift. Come to my room at 9, she said. I will be alone, mon amour.
Okay, this did not happen. But when you're stuck in Ulaan Baatur in the winter months, with temperatures hovering around -30C and the pollution thick enough to cut with a knife, your mind will definitely wander -- your body certainly can't. And you could do far worse than to let it go in the very comfortable confines of the Urgoo Hotel, located a stones throw from the big Genghis square in the center. Clean spacious rooms, a good restaurant downstairs, a pleasant English speaking staff who will do their best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible -- and a hilarious cleaning lady, who will practically brush your teeth for you if you forget.
So if you must come to Ulaan Baatur in the winter (and suicide is not an option) then I recommend you stay at the Urgoo Hotel. I am sure it is an equally fine place in the summer months, where the city and countryside, I am told, are positively vibrant.

No doubt the location is the most attractive about this hotel - right next to GK square. The rooms are of adequate size but are quite worn out. Internet is unstable at times. Staff tries to be helpful but due to limited English doesn't always work out :)
A big discussion point was the prize the hotel charged for airport pick-up/dropoff. It was almost twice the normal going rate (They wanted to charge $25 while normal rate is $15)

We chose the Urgoo for the UB leg of our Trans Mongolian train journey staying a couple of nights. We tried the restaurant via room service and had breakfast the first morning (our train left early the second).
So the hotel scores most highly for its location which matters in UB because the traffic is a bit of a nightmare - it makes taking a taxi a major time commitment plus getting across the road can be a bit exciting. The centrality of the hotel means you get the central district benefit of pedestrian crossings plus there's loads to see a comfy stagger from its door.
The room is spacious and warm (its late September and the night temp is already well south of 0) - it's also comfortable. It has all facilities you would expect, everything works nicely (although the telly had a hissy fit day 1 but settled when we figured how to use correctly).
The other big plus is the staff are nice people who try their level best - not to be knocked.
All in all the Urgoo and its staff made our short stay in UB comfortable and, as a result, we got loads done. Well done them.

If you read the Lonely Planet guide for Ulaan Baatar (UB to the locals) I think the Urgoo hotels gets a bit of a hard rap. It is a small 4 story converted 1920s town house that is very well done up given the rest of the standard in UB. But where it really wins out is the location - 50 meters from the main square and right on the main street for the tourist area (read restaurants). It is the perfect base to work from to see UB, especially if you are there for the Naadam as we were earlier this month. It is undeniably a small boutique hotel but the cleanliness, the finish and the service were all excellent. The only thing I could fault them on is the hot water (takes ~10 minutes to warm up) but that is an endemic problem throughout the country.

Response from Bat-Erdene C, Front Office Manager at Urgoo Boutique Hotel
Responded 28 Jul 2016
I thank you for the review Mr. Douglas, I'm surprised you know the history of the building so well. As it is an old building, we try to maintain it the best we can. The water issue is one we are trying to improve soon. We hope to see you again.

I can strongly recommend Urgoo Boutique hotel for the excellent location, big and comfortable rooms (business suites) and very friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of restaurants and coffee places near by. Would be nice to have some more vegetarian options in the restaurant although I realize Mongolians prefer meat! The manager was very helpful in organising my healthy breakfast!
