A lovely hotel in an old building on the edge of town, it is a short tuk tuk drive or a ten to fifteen minute walk or so from the restaurants and bars in the town centre, the rooms are very tastefully furnished; ours had a four poster bed which was very comfortable. Although the furniture was lovely dark wood...

From the minute we arrived until we left, there was hardly any conversation or smiles, nothing, the room was OK, as someone else wrote, "the staff were disinterested" and I'm afraid they are exactly right. Not quite sure why this should be, but I guess it starts at the top and certainly the receptionist/owner was probably the worst culprit Oh...

For well under $100USD a very large suite at the front of the building, with a large balcony. A beautiful room, large and comfortable. Only slight was luke warm shower water, but hardly a tragedy. The woman at the front desk is soft spoken, kind, knowledgeable. The entire experience was lovely. It is about a 15min leisurely walk to the...

A small hotel with a lovely garden and resting area, rooms are spacious and quiet. Very detailed and lovely decoration in the hall and garden. Staff is polite and helpful. Breakfast is simple (variety of eggs and fruit salad) but good. You can pay in US Dollars but no currency exchange.Quite close to main sight seeings. Nice and pleasant stay.

Large room, comfortable 4 poster bed and pillows. felt very homely with an outdoor seating area between the rooms. located near the main road and night market. all attractions within walking distance. Staff were polite and helpful . Breakfast was varied choice of eggs and bacon, fruit etc, ask for your eggs to be turned over.

Lovely old French building with a very upmarket restaurant in the garden. Stay in the best rooms as these are located in the main building. The suite is huge but the bathroom is very small and disappointing, let the rest down. Reception staff very helpful with excellent English. Breakfast small but sufficient. Restaurant expensive for every night so plan to...

it is a nice little place, but really only a large house converted with some out buildings for more rooms. It has a nice garden and restaurant, but the actual breakfast is nothing special. My room was fine, a good 2.5 star standard with bathroom ( shower) , air con , satellite TV and Internet. The Internet was iffy ..and...

Excellent accomodation and great restaurant but - there is nowhere to sit our lounge as it is literary rooms and restaurant. Also it is a fair way out of the city which means a long walk (45 minutes plus) which is not too good in the heat, or taxis.

Couldn´t agree more with an earlier reviewer “Cold Place in a Cold City”, "Soul-less". Most of the staff underwhelming (even for Laos). Internet extremely spotty to not there. We don´t understand the rave review in Lonely Planet. There were bicycles (at extra cost) but all of them didn´t work, staff not interested in getting them fixed (although there was a...

I stayed for 3 nights after visiting Luang Prabang so it was always going to be hard to match it. This is a reasonably remote hotel although I was happy to walk back and forward to town. I'm not sure if its because the reception is divorced from most of the rooms but it does seem to lack a bit...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As Vientiane changes, so does our villa. Originally built as a private residence for a French family in the 1960s, the site became a school with up to 500 children in 1992 before it was turned into a hotel at the beginning of this century. Despite the changes, our guests still can feel the privacy and comforts of home in each corner of the hotel. The four original buildings host 23 newly designed rooms and are surrounded by a green and cozy garden with seats under large shady trees. The Mandala Boutique Hotel is located in a small side road away from the busy streets of Vientiane, but within walking distance to the city center and just a 15-minute drive from the airport. ... more   less
