The Golden Silk Boutique Hotel garners praise for its cleanliness and friendly staff who contribute to a pleasant stay. Nestled in the Old Quarter, its prime location is a hit with guests looking to explore nearby attractions on foot.
While the hotel offers a comfortable atmosphere and is recognized for providing good value, some guests have noted the rooms and bathrooms can be on the smaller side and may lack windows. Despite this, the diverse breakfast options and welcoming beds are frequently mentioned highlights.

Pretty nice hotel, overall great service with avg rooftop bar. Rooms were quite good had a minor issue with bathroom cleanliness, manager was sent to sort our concern which could not be fixed unfortunately. Other than that location is perfect, good food / buffet breakfast and customer service.

The hotel is located in a fabulous area of Hanoi. The hotel breakfast has a nice variety of different foods including omelets made to order. The coffee needs attention. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Great location but most economy rooms are windowless, check before you book. Most rooms have showers inside the bathtub so if you’re going with elderly relatives, make sure you ask for a walk in shower room. Strong AC, okay breakfast. Right in the heart of Hanoi’s Old City and a short walk to the lake.

Not a nice property. The rooms look nothing like the photos on the website. (The rooms in the photo must be in the very highest category of suite). We were booked here as part of a group tour which advertised “upgraded” accommodations. The first room we got was the lowest-category standard room. It had no window to the outside, only a window looking out on a public interior stairwell that you had to keep closed so nobody could see in. It was extremely dark. The furniture was old and worn. There was very little space for suitcases or clothing, so we did not unpack. Wifi was not very good. The whole vibe was Soviet-era. The bathroom was nice, with a big clean, nice shower and tub. Oddly, the breakfast was in an absolutely beautiful, modern, luxuriously decorated room with a view of the city. (The hotel rooms should look like this, but they don’t.). The food was decent. The second night, we upgraded at our own expense (it was not much more) to the next room category called “luxury high floor with window.” This was the exact same room, with the same window to the same interior stairwell, but on a higher floor. The only difference was that there was an additional very small side window overlooking a sliver of city rooftops. Slightly nicer bed. Same bathroom. Better wifi. (Perhaps we should’ve upgraded one more category). The neighborhood is crowded and dirty, with countless small stores selling mountains of cheap plastic trinkets and people hawking questionable street food. It felt scary to walk around. There are much nicer, modern, luxury hotels, cafes, and stores in other nearby areas of the city, such as the old French Quarter near the Opera House. I would advise tour companies not to book this property as part of any “upgraded” or “luxury” tour. Do not stay here unless you are a student or backpacker on a limited budget. If you are booked here on a package tour, request an upgrade of at least two categories if you can afford it.

Dear B9526FUrachelc, Thank you for your details comment & feedback about your recent stay with Golden Silk Hotel. As a hotel manager I do appreciate both positive & negative feedbacks from the clients, it's really effective tool for us to improve our service. I am very sorry to hear that you did not satisfy with the room type which was chosen by the travel agent neither the room you requested to change. I admit that totally was a big mistake of our staff, they were lack of customer care service technique, they could give more reasonable consultant for the need of client with a much more better room type. Thank you again for your helpful feedback. Kind regard, Emily Chu Hotel Manager

Upon arrival we took a look at the Deluxe room and it was poor. There was no window in the room and there was mould around the bath. I complained and for an additional $10 per night we were moved to a Luxury with a view. The room type had been the selection of our tour company but never the less a room with mould is unacceptable.

The hotel is situated in the old quarter and perfect for exploring Hanoi on foot. We stayed in a Deluxe room which didn't have an external window, just one covered by a blind looking down onto a small inner yard. This may not suit all so would recommend paying extra for a room with a window if this would be an issue.
Not a huge choice for breakfast but perfectly adequate. The staff were friendly and the central location was a real plus.

Dear F7108FCclairem, thank you for your feedback. Please understand that due to the small area in the old quarter, we do not have windows for our cheapest type of rooms. However, for the more expensive rooms, there are windows with a city view. We hope to welcome you back to our hotel soon.

+1
Was greeted warmly when I arrived and was checked in with excellent English. All smooth, so I was shown to my room.
The politest way of describing the room would be "tired". The walls and surfaces were dirty and the overall decor of the place just needed a freshen up. The front door didn't lock unless one slammed the door, the mini fridge was filthy, the plug in the bath leaked water, the portable shower hose leaked - I could go on but I have attached photos. Another thing to note is the weird electrics. At times, you can hear the electricity moving around the room. Worst of all, however, was the dodgy surge that would charge my mobile phone. I had to keep an eye on it because the battery was getting red hot as soon as I plugged it in (I used the same charger and adapter in previous hotels that week so definitely not my devices).
The location is excellent but can be noisy. No problems sleeping, though. Breakfast was adequate but please note how busy it is. The room is tiny with limited seats so there isn't much choice either. I used the laundry facilities which were, overall, excellent. But I would advice going through the reception desk on the day you would like your laundry done, as opposed to the way instructed on the sheet. When you dial the number for collection, nobody ever answers.
If you can get a good price for this hotel, then go for it. But I wouldn't be expecting any luxury.

We stayed at the Golden Silk last year for a few days at the beginning of our trip and again at the end of our trip. We liked it so much that we knew we would stay here again this year. It’s in a perfect location, close to all the sights. Miss Lee and the staff are very helpful, accommodating and pleasant to deal with. We had lovely rooms at both the start and end of our trip again. We were even treated with a private patio on our return. The breakfast is great with a large variety of food to choose from, Vietnamese choices as well as regular breakfast fare. We would highly recommend this hotel.

This is a small, cozy hotel located in the heart of Hanoi’s bustling Old Quarter, an area that serves as a magnet for foreign tourists. The hotel’s location makes it possible to easily explore the entire Old Quarter, including its famous lake.
The hotel may be aging but the staff are more than willing to address any deficiency. For example, Loan (Tracy), the very efficient front office manager, promptly had the shower head replaced in my room when I complained about a leaky shower.
The receptionists are first rate, including Danielle and Quynh. Quynh went out of her way to help me out, including fixing my local cellular connection and stitching up a button on my jacket that was about to fall out! For any assistance, I could count on Quynh, who is just 22 years old and looks even younger than that!

I found the room quality to be good, clean, neat, and fragrant. The utensils are eye-catching, pretty, cute and modern. Room attendant Dang Phuong is beautiful, thoughtful, professional, speaks softly, and is easy to listen to. Overall, I am very satisfied with everything and the service from room attendant Dang Phuong😘😘😘

6.30am to 10.00am. The breakfast is decent but you may get bored eating the same dishes every other day.
Hi Helen
You are from Whitstable like me!!
I think rooms vary hence reviews.
We had balcony suite at front on 7 th floor. It was not noisy?
I think rooms at the back have no windows? Location is great just walk everywhere. Good luck and enjoy
Anita
We stayed there recently, and I doubt very much that the restaurant is "closed to the public". At worst, they might just ask to charge it to the room if you joined your friends.
They are very nice and accomodating.
