This is a very nice hotel with an historic feel in the centre of the old city of Chiang Mai. The restaurant is good including the breakfast. Staff are excellent with a special mention of the young ladies on the reception desk. We stayed in the Spa Suite which was of good size and nicely furnished. There was a bath and outside shower. The room had a nice patio outside with a couple of lounging chairs as well as a seating area for drinks or food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Room Tip: The night markets were not for us. We hired a car and driver and explored outside the city.

The Tamarind Village is a charming period property, because of this it feels a little cramped, the standard room is small and has little space if travelling with suitcases. The room is reasonably well appointed and house keeping does a great job. There is an in room safe and we had plenty of bottles of drinking water during our stay, we did use insect repellent but it isn't a big problem during the dry season. The breakfast is very pleasant and we had no issues finding a table outside by the pool, a good choice of western and Asian style foods. The space around the pool feels a little cluttered and there are not sufficient beds or umbrellas by mid afternoon. Lunch at the restaurant is very good quality, although a little pricey and good food can be found not far from the hotel due to its good location in the old town. The staff are great and very welcoming, going over and above to serve. The clientele is a non rowdy crowd and this allows for some tranquility within a busy city. I'd consider returning to the Tamarind if my plans take me back to Chiang Mai.

Our experience was slightly disappointing. We stayed for 2 nights over 3 days. The reason for this this was that on night 1 we arrived and stayed in the city, on day 2 we checked out to travel to an elephant bush camp for 1 night, leaving our luggage at the hotel , then arrived back for night 3 on day 3 for 1 more night before travelling onwards. Our first night and room was great, really quaint and charming, not massive but certainly large enough , nice bathroom and comfortable bed, it was on the ground floor near the original tamarind tree the hotel is named after. Breakfast was excellent and we had an evening meal in the restaurant which was lovely with great service. On our return from camp, we were allocated a different room, which felt like it was an after thought. It was tucked away at the back of the garden , disused sun beds were hidden behind a screen, the garden was slightly less kept and very noisy, dogs barking and gardeners using lawnmowers which sounded like they were there with you. Overall a nice hotel but slightly marred by our second stay, we weren’t expecting to have the same room but we were expecting the same experience.

What a lovely hotel right in the centre of old Chiang Mai. Lovely staff, fabulous restaurant, very comfortable rooms (although dogs barking nearbye in the wee small hours did take the edge off) and a truly great location. Great breakfasts available - either western or Thai.

From the moment we arrived, we felt instantly calm and serene. Our room was on the 2nd floor and despite the incessant barking of 2 neighboring dogs, was very quiet (we have dogs at home so we weren't bothered). The breakfast selection and service was excellent. The hotel grounds are beautiful. The staff are all quiet but friendly. The location is great--near lots of shops, restaurants, temples, and massage places. We loved our stay and would return in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.

Fabulous location and lovely hotel Rooms are small though and if I returned I would definitely get a suite Housekeeping was poor - only the most cursory of cleans and on one morning when a large group appeared at breakfast the restaurant couldn’t cope. At one stage there were no juices no fruits no plates or glasses However the lovely staff more than compensated and we would definitely return

We had just two nights here and loved it. Such a tranquil setting with lovely staff and food. Set in a colonial style village with lovely vegetation and trees around you. The setting and the rooms take you back to a by-gone time but don’t lack the modern requiremts. The bed was one of the most comfortable I had slept in and the room was equipped with a sofa. We had our own patio. Orchids and other flowers are everywhere. The pool is lovely and the restaurant food amazing- including breakfast that had many choices. You are right in the city, so a short walk and you are out of the hotel to an array of shopping, eating ans drinking. Lots of temples close by also as well as travel agents to book excursions, convenience stores and massage options. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. We did have a problem with having hot water for a few hours, but it got sorted. There was also a dank smell like dampness in the room, but it seemed to go after a while of inhabiting it. The only real negative was the constant barking (night and day) of a local dog in a property close to the hotel. Not the hotels fault though. We plan to come back!

OK I stayed here for the last four nights. The location is wonderful. Make sure you are in Chiang Mai on a Sunday night. They have the best Sunday night market right in front of the hotel. You could spend 4 to 5 hours there. Look no further. I love breakfast time because it’s so peaceful and the restaurant and the grounds are very lovely. I spent an average of an hour and a half at breakfast, catching up on things and enjoying the music and the views. The staff…no complaints the room…no complaints. Prior to coming I had read the hotel was a bit rundown. I have to disagree. If you are the type of person who looks at “what isn’t right” instead of “what is” you may find a couple things to gripe about. I’ll just lay it out, the very back corner of the hotel could use a little more foliage to cover what I guess some people say is rundown. From early evening to midmorning, you would never notice. If your room is Not in that back corner, like mine was, you will never know, but I absolutely did not care whatsoever as I was gone during the days anyway. The other would be if you’re not a morning person there are some roosters around the property that give wake up calls. I have a sound machine so I heard nothing. For the person who seeks perfection those would be the two gripes. For me, it was perfect the way it is! I had a lovely stay, thank you Tamarand Village! I also wanted to add that both entrances into the property are absolutely photo worthy and stunning!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Tamarind Village. The location was excellent, being right in the heart of Old City. The staff went above and beyond and made us feel so at home being there for 5 days. We could not recommend this place enough!
