Fine, basic little guest house with no surprises. You get what you pay for. Room was clean and what was there worked. Bed typical for many places in Thailand, hard as...I’d say about one step up from the floor. Breakfast basic, but okay and served with a smile from the always friendly, helpful staff. Great location in the old town, I’d stay there again.
The guest house was perfect, a great place to sleep. Close enough to the markets and the happening area of Chiang Mai.. lots of food options it is down an alley sort of so quiet enough to rest. A block or two away from everything. The owner gave great suggestions on sites and is very personal. All around great people. Remember this is a place to sleep and rest and hang on their porch. If you are looking for a tv to hang around in the room then this is not the place for you.
I have just returned home after spending a week at the Kavil guest house. I found this hotel on trip advisor and booked on the basis that it is close to Tae Pae gate where the lantern festival celebrations would be taking place. What I found was that actually the location was perfect for everywhere that I wanted to go. The hotel was nice, airy and clean and had the comfiest bed that I slept in in all of Thailand and the staff were really friendly too. I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Chiang Mai and would definitely recommend staying here!
We informed Kavil Guesthouse well ahead of time about our expected arrival time. We literally arrived a few minutes after 22:00 and then finally (after 22:00) received a reply from Kavil Guesthouse stating that we needed to pay a few hundred baht extra when arriving after 22:00. An employee opened the door and gave us a phone with the owner on the line. She came across extremely rude and unprofessional, demanding the late arrival fee because she had to “wake her staff” - come on. She then said it would probably be difficult to find another room in Chiang Mai, and when we told her we could probably get another one as of the low season and we had been before she suddenly said she could waive the late arrival fee. The extremely unprofessional attitude and the somewhat scam/extortion like behaviour made us decide to cancel our stay even though we were stranded on the side of the streets without a room. I’ve read through every single line of text on the booking.com ad, nowhere it states an extra fee for a ‘late’ check-in. This was later confirmed by booking.com. If this was made clear before booking we would have never booked this place. Felt like an absolute scam. The rooms might be nice but if you get into any kind of trouble with the owner expect the absolute worst. Not worth the gamble!…
Good and cosy rooms in a quite neighborhood and walkable distance from the city center. We had rented big bikes to do the Mae Hong son loop and they didn't had parking place but they spoke to the neighbor and arranged for the parking of the bikes.
Wifey n I stayed in Kavil for five nights. We are from Perth Australia. This was our first experience of a guesthouse. We usually stay in good class hotels. We were very happy with Kavil. Cleanliness and hygiene were the first things we look for and in this regard; Kavil is right up there with more expensive accomodation. Location is next. Kavil is well situated right in the old town and close to all the downtown touristy sites and markets. The minimal staff there are exceedingly polite. And so was the Thai lady boss, we forgot her name. We returned late one night after making the mistake of leaving our keys at the counter. We had to ring the Australian owner, and without any fuss; his staff returned within ten min to open the security door for us. We highly recommend Kavil Guesthouse …
In a narrow Soi no more than 200 m from the Sunday night market. The hotel is well managed. No elevator but I am 60 & had no problem accessing the 4th floor room. The rooms have no fridge(would be nice) or no TV (only in common area). The man/woman who cooks breakfast also service the rooms.Rooms are very clean & include water, tea, coffee & a kettle.Bed was comfortable & the Soi was quiet .Book the room deal which include breakfast as there are no cheap options nearby .My 4th floor room had a lot of daylight .Vegan Restaurant Bodhi Tree2 across the Soi and a Thai cooking school a minute away.Best location on a Sunday.Still veg the other days.Great value especially as I walked everywhere from here .Will stay there again.
Thank you, Kavil Guesthouse for an excellent stay. From the moment we checked in, everyone here treated us as welcomed guests and took wonderful care to make sure we has a great stay. The combined A/C and fan meant we dried out, even with torrential rains in Chiang Mai soaking us daily. Our room was bright, clean and the great mattress and pillows helped us sleep well every night. Conveniently located on Ratchadamuan Rd, Soi 5, Kavil Guesthouse is steps from restaurants and the Sunday walking street while offering a quiet, relaxing stay. Kavil Guesthouse is an excellent value and a great home away from home in Chiang Mai. Thank you!
Great guesthouse in the old city. The rooms were really clean and comfortable with daily cleaning service. The location was awesome, near the Sunday night market and great restaurants. Staff were really polite and helpful. Overall, good value for money
We stayed one night at a place called Kristi guesthouse. (Big mistake what a dump! Rm 409) Anyway, after WASTING our time and money at that dump, we spent the day At Kavil guest house. What a difference! The Manager called NUII, let us stay there for approximately seven hours until our flight left in the evening. Not only did she give us an incredible price but was extremely nice. We told her we just needed the room to relax and take a shower before our flight. There are many many guest houses on the street so You can infer or tell which one I recommend not to go to and which one you want to go to. Enuff said
