Detailed Reviews
My wife and I arrived late on New Year’s Day. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our entire stay, recommending places to visit and eat. Breakfast was included during our stay and it was very good you get the option of having an egg dish plus buffet style of things like fruit, juices, cereal, toast and salad.
The restaurant and rooftop bar were very good for dinner and drinks.
Location of the hotel was also very close to many of the main tourist attractions. The night market was also within walking distance about 20minutes.
The room was a very good size we stayed on the 3rd floor. The room was always cleaned daily and provided you with complimentary water bottles.
We loved our stay and would recommend this place to others.

A stunning hotel in almost the direct centre of the old city. Even with that, from inside the hotel you would never believe that's where you were. Given the surroundings foliage & hotel design little to no outside noise pollution penetrates into the centre of the hotel, where all the balcony are located, of a night it is very peaceful.
It's useful location in the centre of the old city is within easy (depending on your preferences/ability) walking distance of most places. There is also the usual abundance of motorised alternatives ready to take you anywhere.
A hotel that you really have to see to understand why I consider it one of my favourite hotels, not only in Thailand, but of almost anywhere I've stayed.

Would highly recommend staying at U Chiang Mai, its location is perfect right in the centre of the Old Town, although once you enter the hotel grounds it is very peaceful and calm. Lots of the main attractions are very close by. Room was clean and comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful. We went on the complimentary bike ride (6am-7am) on Tuesday with the tour guide Amy - well worth getting up for and we are so glad we did. It seems early, but it is the perfect time with less traffic on the roads and slightly cooler. Amy our guide was friendly and showed us around some of the temples and took us around the market. We really enjoyed. Also we both had massages at the spa. Prices are relatively reasonable compared to some of the massage places around the city and the spa at U Chiang Mai is really nice. Our massages were excellent and we would highly recommend having one in the hotel! Breakfast was excellent, choice of dishes made to order as well as fruit, pastries, fresh fruit juices etc. Pool was clean and big, easy to find a lounger. Only problem is that it does shade over in the afternoon, but most of our time was spent outside exploring so we weren’t that bothered. Overall would highly recommend this hotel and we would stay here again if we come back to Chiang Mai.

Good 4 star boutique hotel in the heart of the old town. There is probably no other hotel that is better located: On the main road where the Sunday walking market takes, around the corner of the main temples. You really can walk anywhere. Booking contains one welcome drink from the minibar on the day of arrival, flexible check-in and checkout as long as you tell them in time. We further booked the pick up service which was very convenient, but obviously more pricey than a cab. The team is super nice and helpful, everyone was friendly, helpful and spoke good English. Design was not my cup of tea, in particular the restaurant and bar are not very welcoming design-wise; we found the restaurant of the Tamarind Village down the road to be much more atmospheric. But then, the Tamarind Village charges prices per night which were twice as high as the U Chiang Mai. If you are looking for a stylish very reasonably priced boutique hotel in the middle of the old town with a very motivated and friendly young team, this is the place to go in CM.

We have stayed at 3 hotels in Thailand, the U chiang mai was very disappointing and the most expensive by double, we moved to the Empress Premier Chiang Mai which was much cheaper and far far superior in every way, from free upgrade to the most amazing suite to a bouquet of flowers on arrival, beautiful display of fresh fruit in the room, complimentary meal in the restaurant and the most breathtaking room. Not sure how U hotel has so many good reviews. U hotel decoration, is sub standard, bathroom shower not clean dark colours hid this well. Bed very hard didn't sleep, noisey as no double glazing and gaps around doors for mosquetos. Pool in the shade and sunbathing area small mainly in the shade also. Would not recommend or stay again.

This hotel is in Old Town. For those who do not know, the Old Town area of Chiang Mai is the one which has a very different vibe to it then the other tourist areas; Nimmanhaemin Road, being modern and trendy and the Chang Khalan area, bigger hotels. Old Town is populated with quaint little shops, restaurants, yoga studios, temples, bars as well as smaller boutique hotels. U Chiang Mai too is a boutique hotel in this area. The location is fantastic - with everything literally within walking distance.
The hotel is clean, peaceful with a tranquil, ambiance. No sleazy activities going on in or around the hotel. Family oriented and couple is love guests predominantly. Staff are friendly, co-operative and although every where l, they keep themselves discreet. One can see them busy at work through out the day in keeping the hotel clean and well maintained. Staff works very, very hard throughout the day to ensure their guests comfort.
There is a buffet breakfast which though limited in options is decent and filling. Eggs are made to order. Vegetarians may not have many options and those who do not eat ham, bacon and pork may also miss variety. Having said that, we personally were satisfied with the spread. Please keep in mind that the breakfast served is at par or perhaps better than that offered at similar hotels.
One thing that older people and those with bones and joints problems must know is that there are no elevators in the hotel. The ground floor has the pool access rooms (not all though); the first floor has the deluxe rooms and the second floor houses the superior rooms. The staff help its guests to take the luggage up and down, yet older people may face inconvenience if they have a room on the upper floors.
Bathrooms are good enough with a reasonable water pressure in the muslim shower as well as the rain shower. The air conditioning, wifi, television all worked fine for us. No complaints. A decent size pool which is 1.25 m deep. 6 to 8 sun lounge chairs. Clean linen, towels and surroundings. Cycle for use free. A fitness room albeit very basic. A fantastic reading room with not so many books available but an absolutely peaceful place to read ones own books.
Conclusion: Great hotel where I would stay again.

This was a second stay for me at the U Chiang Mai (the first being about 8 years earlier). I was happy to return as they did me the courtesy of refunding my non-refundable room in 2020 when the world shutdown.
My sister and I booked two rooms and as requested they were placed closely to one another. Both were very clean and housekeeping did an excellent job daily promptly attending to our rooms when we left. We were genuinely impressed by the housekeeping team who clearly work very hard. The firm pillows we requested were in our rooms on arrival as were the additional bottles of water and a complimentary bottle of wine each.
The location is excellent in Old City, with the restaurant and reception between the rooms and the road it is not too noisy (though you are in a city so some noise is expected).
The rooms are showing their age and there is a decent amount of wear and tear to furniture with chips and scratches. The showerhead in my room leaked at the join and I needed to tighten it each time I showered. The AC is very noisy and I needed to wear earplugs to sleep with it. For the price we paid we were happy enough and it was clean.
The staff were very helpful and I liked the app and ability to chat with reception via the same. I was grateful to reception who held onto a delivery of laundry for me for several hours when I was away from the hotel.
The restaurant is probably the weakest point. The hot breakfast is not good, while apparently ala carte it comes so quickly and is relatively cold so I think they cook in advance and store in a bain-marie. The pastries and fruit were nice. The coffee and tea was good. I would recommend walking to a nearby cafe for a hot breakfast but the hotel is fine for continental style. I had an okay Som Tam night one, but it was only okay so we ate outside the hotel otherwise.
Happy Hour on the rooftop bar was good, not too crowded and with a nice atmosphere. The passionfruit mojito was excellent.
There were three petty frustrations that I hope can be attended to in the future.
1) The Wi-Fi required us to keep logging in (despite ticking the 'remember me' box).
2) The spa was lovely but very noisy from the road/street noise, better soundproofing OR moving the spa to another location on property would fix this.
3) The 24 hours use of our room was not honoured for both rooms. Not a dealbreaker, but it meant my sister had to check out several hours earlier than I did and use my room for the last few hours.
Despite the above points I would return again for the lovely staff and excellent location.

Location perfect, room clean, staff were excellent, and very good quality of food.
Although we requested non-smoking, and sun facing balcony, neither requirements were afforded. In the early hours in the morning cigarette smell was really bad coming through the A/C unit, obviously by thoughtful nearby guests. All the days we were there it was (full) sunny days, and alas the only balcony with full shad (ZERO sun) was ours..very infuriating, even after specifically requesting the aforementioned, and reconfirming this feature at check-in.
Additional word of caution do not trust/really on the "room electric mosquito vaporizer" I got eaten alive ! So make sure you cover up, and use a good mosquito repellent !

This hotel is very centrally located in Chiang Mai. Was very clean service was very polished. The room and the bed with both very comfortable. Really the only reason I gave four stars instead of five is the breakfast is very redundant. It was just eggs or Asian breakfast. One morning I wanted to order pancakes and I was told that I could have them because they were on the à la carte menu. However they were on the breakfast menu but I wasn’t going to argue. But it pretty much is the same thing so if you’re staying for a week it does get a bit repetitive. However the ladies at breakfast were friendly polite and the lattes were fabulous. So really I would give it 4 1/2 stars. But that’s not an option.
If you stay in there on a Sunday you are right in the middle of the night market and it is fantastic. Because you can go back to your room with your packages go to the bathroom freshen up a little bit and then go right back out. I also found that it was in a very central location and it didn’t cost very much for transportation to get pretty much anywhere in Chiang Mai.

First visit to Thailand and to Chiang Mai. This is a lovely small low rise hotel . Perfectly located to get anywhere in Chiang Mai with tuk tuk and taxis outside the hotel . Staff are excellent , speak good english and very helpful. Excellent breakfast which could be taken anywhere ( in on site restaurant or brought to room ) up to 10.30 pm . Has 2 for 1 cocktails 5pm to 8pm every night in bar overlooking the street ( approx ÂŁ2.50 per cocktail in happy hour ! ) also one complementary drink is provided during stay from in room minibar. unfortunately we weren't staying there on a Sunday so missed the Sunday street market which takes place on the street where U Chiang Mai is situated . would recommend hotel , especially the staff and would stay there again if visiting that area .

I stayed at U Chiang Mai in May 2022 for 7 nights. The bedsheets are provided but are only changed on request which is a good idea and environmentally friendly. Great little boutique hotel with fantastic staff, excellent and affordable massage centre and in a central location. Hope you have the same experience and don’t forget to use the free bicycles available for hotel guests once you're done with walking to all the local sites.
Definitely, the hotel is still applicable for 24 hrs stay.
Due to limited space in the old city, we do not provide on-site parking. However, we have the valet parking available. Once you arrive at the hotel, our staff will assist you in parking your car at the nearby place. You can leave your key car with us and our staff will bring you the car when you needed.
One child age below 11.59 years old can stay with parents free of charge including breakfast. However, the 2nd child will be charge for extra bed and breakfast. We do have only swimming for adults only.
