I love the Shanti Lodge, Bangkok is a crazy place and the Shanti lodge is a peaceful place within the city yet removed from it at the same time. On top of that the employees of the Shanti Lodge treated me as family; taught me Thai words, told me the places to go and the price the rickshaw should be....

I have stayed at the Shanti Lodge 5 times and each time it felt like the weight of the world dropped off my shoulders. Because it is located in a busy little neighborhood on a dead end street there is nothing commercial about it, rather, it is like walking into a haven with blooming orchids and vines and a waterfall...

I have been coming to the Shanti for over eight years. My experience there has always been tremendous - knowledgeable and helpful staff, unique custom rooms, and great food. It is removed from the tourist trap of Kao San Road in a more authentic Thai neighborhood. It is located next to a great local market and near the Chao Phraya...

I stayed here with a group of young adults and felt extremely well taken care of. The staff went above and beyond expectations to provide a safe and friendly 'home-base' for our stay in Bangkok. I'll definately return!

Its got a great restaurant and bar area and offers free wi-fi which is very handy. The rooms are alright, sometimes basic but nicely decorated and clean. My major problem with this place, and its a big problem really is that the staff tend to range from indifferent to hostile. I also found their booking system very unreliable. You can...

I stayed at Shanti for my first five days in Thailand. The location is a bit inconvenient (a 30-minute walk to Khao San Rd. and a motorcycle taxi or 100-300B tuk-tuk everywhere else), but it's in an authentic Thai neighborhood. There are cheap and delicious food stalls across the street and a market around the corner, and thankfully a 7-11...

just got back from staying at shanti lodge in bangkok. i loved the atmosphere and the food, and any difficulty with the staff was certainly due to cultural differences - communication could be hard, but they were very kind and gracious. shanti farm was also fantastic. however, i will warn you - either the farm or the lodge, not sure...

If the noise and pollutin of Bangkok feel a bit much, this is the place to go. Here you just might forget that you are in a 8-million-people megacity. Still, the place in only about 15 minutes walking from Khao San rd and near the rier ferry station. We stayed in two different room, the penthouse and an ordinary room...

I'm almost at the end of my first of almost two weeks intended to stay here, with my first visit having been in 1994 when it was just a gleam in the owners' eyes. I can hardly believe the changes I'm seeing, and all of them are for the better even though it was very good for its class in...

We stayed here the first few nights after we arrived in Bangkok. It was a very relaxing property off of the main roads. The food was excellent and the staff very nice. We ended up going back to the Shanti lodge on our way out of the country a month later. The first night we were there we had a...

Staying in Dusit

Neighbourhood Profile
Dusit
When wandering around the Dusit Palace grounds, you'd almost forget you're still in a Southeast-Asian city. The Renaissance-style buildings and leafy gardens wouldn't be out of place in an European capital, and the serenity here is in stark contrast with the chaotic city life outside of its complex walls. Dusit is one of Bangkok's oldest districts, and while the rest of Bangkok is modernising at a rapid pace, Dusit seems to have stood the test of time. Come here to find family businesses in traditional shophouses, small-scale local markets and streets unfazed by modern city life.
