I booked this hotel on the recommendation of my travel agent at Travel Cuts and thought it was great. The staff were lovely and very helpful on several occassions. This was my first time to Asia in general and as a budget traverl, thought the Royal was perfect. I think it cost me about 30CAD per night, I liked the...

The Royal is a good location for those visiting Bangkok for the first time. We were able to walk to the Royal Palace, Wat Po, and Khao San Road. And there were always tuk tuks and taxis out front to take us further away. However, crossing the street was a little death-defying so it's not for the faint of heart...

If you are expecting a 5 star hotel then you will be dissapointed. Saying that, the Royal Hotel has a great location close to The Grand Palace, National museum and KhoSan road and is a good price for what it is. It has seen better days but ask for a room in the new wing rather than the original building...

The Royal Hotel is excellent value for money. The location is great and the rooms are large and comfortable. Friends found slightly cheaper accommodation on Koh Sarn Road and woke in the night to fighting neighbours and bed ants! The pool was clean and a welcomed sight. The breakfast finishes at 9.30am, but if you sleep late and miss it,...

This is the fourth time we have stayed at the Royal. The hotel has some shabby parts but on the whole is clean and tidy and good value for money. The rooms are a good size and well fitted, the beds are clean and very comfortable. The bathrooms are spacious and our shower was excellent. The buffet breakfast is superb,...

We booked the hotel via STA travel before we arrived and its been a really great hotel 2 min walk from the Ko San Rd, tonight is our last night and we stayed in a standard room with a fan which was adjustable and kept the room ice cold! (which is how we liked it!) Room is a good size...

The Royal has a good location in Banglampu, quite close to Khao Sarn road, the royal palace, the demo and other tourist attractions. The room was spacious, clean, had a very good bathroom, sat TV, fridge and the usual amenities. The beds are a bit hard, perhaps not the best for those who prefer a soft sleep. Included breakfast is...

We stayed at the Royal for 3 nights in January 2006. We had pre-booked our room from the UK at the cost of approximately £14.50 per room per night, including breakfast. We arrived about 10pm and were shown to our room. This had a view over the very busy road which ran alongside the hotel. The windows were not well...

Stayed at the Royal twice during Feb this year. It is adequate with all you need and very well priced. However i cannot allow the attitude of a good deal of the staff to pass without comment. The reception staff were rude, no care for customer service. Twice i had money or papers snatched from my hands at the counter...

Just returned from Thailand and the Royal Hotel in Bangkok. While the price was right and the location of the hotel was ideal for visiting the historic sites in the old city, we were generally disappointed with our experience at the Royal Hotel. The room was greatly in need of a makeover. The curtains were torn, the carpet was stained,...

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
