Hi all, My wife & I stayed in the New Siam III Guesthouse in the first week of January 2014 for 3 nights. We have stayed in and around the Kao San Road a couple of times on previous trips to Thailand (usually before going to the islands); its a cheap area to stay with good value to be had....

Perfect place for backpackers, next street from Kao San, therefore much more quiet at night. At 840 bhats a night in november, it's a steal. I was there twice for a few days on my way back and forth from Burma. On both occasions, the room was clean, quiet, with air con, a fan, and enough space to breathe. The...

Full disclosure --- I am not a backpacker. I only have two nights in Bangkok in transit and I wanted to stay in close vicinity to the palaces near the river because the BTS isn't the best for getting there and I also wanted to see what the Khaosan scene was like... Trip advisor is usually so good to me....

Visited in June 2012 and was our second stay here. Have stayed in New Siam II as well but thought this one was better. Rooms are basic but clean with private bathroom, ac, tv and fridge which makes it great value for money. The location is down a side street with plenty of restaurants and markets and only a short...

I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing that New Siam III is close to Khaosan. New Siam III is located on a smaller street right next to Khaosan. Finding New Siam was a challenge, there is only a small sign behind a bigger tattoo studio sign. When we finally found the place the staff were helpfull...

I wasn't sure what to expect from this guest house as I had read several mixed reviews. The reception was fine - there was no wait and we were given our room key swiftly. There is a desk in reception where you can book tours and the man that works there is very helpful in providing you info on the...

Great location near kao san rd in a quieter area. You pay extra for wifi but worked well and fast. Rooms basic and clean. Check in process was a little slow. Air con leaked but this was soon fixed. They offer laundry service but can get a lot cheaper and same day on the streets. We requested higher floor and...

The location is great. Close to the boat taxi and in the middle of the kao san road district. Great place to go out at night, not too far away from the major touristic attractions. The rooms are good, but not great. AC didn't work very well. On the ground flour I couldn't get any internet from my mobile, but...

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.

“Be polite to the staff - they have to deal with lots of riff-raff foreigners, so if you show a degree of politeness they are more than happy to reciprocate. Laundry (and backpack) always done in 24 hours at the normal rate of THB40/kg. Towels, toilet paper etc whenever you wanted it. And that SMILE! One skight downside: paying for daily internet. That's a bit 1990s. But the speed is reasonable and it holds well. Will happily stay here again in the future!”
