New Siam III is the newest of the chain, and having stayed here before I recommend it highly. Room - comfy. Bed - comfy. AC and fan - perfect. Hot water shower - perfect. Quietness - perfect. Quality of staff - all smiles. Good value for money at BHT840/night if you're not a broke backpacker. But still want to people-watch...

This is a budget hotel in the Banglamphu area- at Soi Rambutri. It is a nice hotel and much better value ( 840 baht for a double room with nice bathroom) then other places in this area. The bathroom is conveniant with a seperate shower so you won't make the whole floor wet. There is a choice for the (...

Me and a buddy had a quick trip to Bangkok January 2014. We ended up in this place. The staff was helpful when there was something we wanted, and even expedited our check-in, but there was not much of the courtesy smiling and friendliness. Wifi was cheap and worked great. Good job! As always with Bangkok, do not, ever, go...

Bangkok is a huge city. Hustle and bustle. Fortunately when we first arrived in Thailand we had booked with Tripadvisor and had booked 5 nights at the New Siam 111. A good move, as it was clean, the staff friendly, the location central to the Khao Sen area, close to the ferry boat on the Chao Priya river, and a...

If you like Kao San area (backpakkers, cheap junk markets etc.), this guesthouse is right in the middle of it. Welcome is very unpersonal and the staff is not the personification of friendliness. Room is very small but clean (aside of some details like stuff behind the tv closet), which is the most important for a place like Bangkok. Have...

We stayed at this hotel all together for ten days (three different rooms) and loved it. It has air-condition, a fan, soft mattresses, shower gel and shampoo, a safe, a cabinet, hooks for cloth, TV and a fridge. The staff speaks English and is friendly. There are on-site services such as laundry, a cloak room, a travel agency and wifi....

Hi all, My wife & I stayed in the New Siam III Guesthouse in the first week of January 2014 for 3 nights. We have stayed in and around the Kao San Road a couple of times on previous trips to Thailand (usually before going to the islands); its a cheap area to stay with good value to be had....

Perfect place for backpackers, next street from Kao San, therefore much more quiet at night. At 840 bhats a night in november, it's a steal. I was there twice for a few days on my way back and forth from Burma. On both occasions, the room was clean, quiet, with air con, a fan, and enough space to breathe. The...

Full disclosure --- I am not a backpacker. I only have two nights in Bangkok in transit and I wanted to stay in close vicinity to the palaces near the river because the BTS isn't the best for getting there and I also wanted to see what the Khaosan scene was like... Trip advisor is usually so good to me....

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.

“Be polite to the staff - they have to deal with lots of riff-raff foreigners, so if you show a degree of politeness they are more than happy to reciprocate. Laundry (and backpack) always done in 24 hours at the normal rate of THB40/kg. Towels, toilet paper etc whenever you wanted it. And that SMILE! One skight downside: paying for daily internet. That's a bit 1990s. But the speed is reasonable and it holds well. Will happily stay here again in the future!”
