Rokpa is an incredible guesthouse. Perfectly located right near the Boudha stupa but away from the crowds. It’s a quiet complex with beautiful gardens, A nice sanctuary to study and meditate. I had a single room with a queen sized bed. The bed was very comfortable! I know how hard the beds can get in Asia and I am a sucker for a softer bed. Breakfast is freshly made and super tasty, you can have it in their cute café or alfresco. But the stand out feature of this guesthouse is definitely the staff. I’m not even going to call anyone out by name because everyone was so helpful, incredibly kind, and always there with a smile. This whole business is a win-win, not only are you helping out their children’s home by staying here, you are doing yourself a favor because this place is utterly magical to stay in. This place has good vibes all around…
If you are looking for a lovely guest house in a tranquil setting with fantastic staff in all departments (reception, housekeeping, restaurant, security, kitchen etc) look no further. You won't be disappointed with your stay at Rokpa and while there be sure to learn about its history and humanitarian cause. My longer than expected stay, was a success on all levels and I was treated with utmost kindness like a member of the family. Highly recommended. Rooms with stupa view are an added bonus.
Rokpa was our first guest house in Nepal, and we chose to return 2 more times in between treks! A truly special, welcoming oasis in a wonderful area of Kathmandu. Our children were welcomed and cherished and spent many hours in the garden catching up on school work and playing. The staff were without exception fantastic. We loved walking down to 'our' Stupa in the evenings and exploring this part of the city. Thank you Rokpa for making our 6 weeks in Nepal as comforting and homely as you did!
Rokpa guesthouse was my favorite stay and place while in Nepal. The guesthouse sits in the heart of a Buddhist neighborhood and despite the noise and bustle surrounding it, it is a place of tranquility and charm. The place is spotless so you can rest assured is very clean and neat without any fancy bells and whistles. It has a very homey vibe to it, the garden is such a treat filled with flowers all over and it is a place to unwind and connect with nature, you would never guess you are in the middle of crazy Kathmandu. But perhaps the most incredible aspect of this place is the NGO behind, everyone that works in the guesthouse have come from very vulnerable backgrounds and have made a life for themselves with the support of the organization. Everyone is so nice and welcoming, very kind and in great spirits. It is beautiful to see responsible tourism in places like this were your stay can make a difference in the world. I would return to this place without a doubt. I highly recommend it. Oh and breakfast is included.…
Best accommodation I booked in Nepal. Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable beds and generous rooms with clean & modern bathrooms. The restaurant attached has incredible food at reasonable prices. Rooms are a bit more expensive than others, but going to a great cause and the quality of stay absolutely meets the cost.
I've stayed here so many times but it was worth doing another review since my last stay. Rokpa was always great, but has come a long way since the early days (when I was first there in 2013). They are now a well-oiled-machine to make your stay comfortable, interesting, and fun. AND... they are training so many young people for the hospitality industry (and other industries, for that matter). Stay here to support their efforts and/or donate to the Rokpa organization.
Our family had such a great experience staying at Rokpa Guest House. We used it as a base, staying three separate times for a total of ten nights over a three week period. Everything was great. The rooms were clean, quiet, and comfortable, and the beds were very comfortable and warm. The staff of both the guest house and the restaurant were all super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, with lots of great choices (Nepali, English and other) and we had several delicious lunches and dinners as well. The restaurant is also a great place to sit and have some tea, as is the courtyard on a nice day. The guest house is cloistered and a quite respite from the chaos of Kathmandu. Rokpa stored some of our luggage as we traveled to other parts of Nepal and to Bhutan, and took care of arranging for taxis for local adventures around Kathmandu as well as to and from the airport. The guest house is very convenient to the stupa and not that far from the airport. Rokpa costs slightly more than other guest houses in the area but is much less costly than hotels,…
I stayed here in November before and after doing a trek to base camp. I cannot recommend Ropka guest house enough. The garden is an oasis in the middle of a busy city. Location is excellent, right beside the Buddist Stupa. The food is excellent and is the accomodation. But the staff here are the real gems, they are so polite and friendly. They have a lovely terrace on the roof for a beer and some bar food and watch the sunset.
The rooms were clean and the hospitality wonderful. we truly loved the food too. We could eat it everyday. (we went on a few tours away from the guest house for a week and we missed Rokpa's food) They store your bags for you and they can set up any tour you want. They are so helpful. We checked in one night really late and they were right there for us. Sonham (x2) were especially polite and assisted us in every way. We would stay there again and we highly recommend it.
Travelled with extended family to Kathmandu, and loved staying at Rokpa; we made use of the meditation room, which was great. Also the hotel serves as a training school for less-privileged young adults, so it was wonderful not just to stay there, but also contribute to the educations of these hard-working kids! Will come back! :)
