Varnabas is a lively celebration of Nepal’s glory, manifesting in its geographic and cultural richness. Borrowed from Sanskrit, varna means ethnicity, and bas encapsulate the notion of haven, a secure shelter, and a safe refuge. In the historic Valley of Kathmandu, along the world’s most stunning mountains, with the company of legendary people, Varnabas is the place where stories are told, fables are made, and memories are rekindled.

It's a fairly new hotel and opened in Feb 2024. I was meant to fly to pokhara but the airport was closed. Fate decreed I have the extreme good luck to stay in this lovely hotel. I don't know how they usually rate hotels in terms of stars but it's 5 for me. I am from Singapore and have stayed in hotels like MBS and Capella etc. In terms in class, Varnabas is in the same league. There is a roof top pool and indoor as well. So it won't be cold in winter. Rooms have different themes according to the provinces and I booked a room with a bath tub. It's standalone and looks like a Phillipe Starck one. (Could be actually). And bath robes are made from terry cloth which reminds me of the old days of the swanky Ritz Carlton in Singapore. The finishings are first class. Modern and luxurious. Not the typical inn of local standards. Bathroom hardware looks German. Raving about its bathroom and separate rain shower alone does this hotel insufficient justice. I paid more attention to it in my review is to highlight the exquisite detail the interior designer has given thought to it. The devil is in the details. My room has animal motifs. Artsy and not cheesy. The host showed me a few rooms to choose from by dint of excellent service. Few hotels make this effort now. The Queen sized bed is comfortable and feels like a Sealy mattress. Ample towels and toiletries provided. This is my first night and have yet to try the restaurant. The rooftop bar has a decent range of signature cocktails concocted by the bartender. He makes a mean negroni. That was the catalyst that made me try his signature Spice Bomb. I am unsure why it's named as such. Its not spicy at all. Being from Singapore we have a good grip on spiciness. Perhaps its just local ingredients and spices are local. I shall revisit in the latter part of the evening. Recovering from my mini hangover. If u do visit Nepal, don't choose the big corporate chains. Pick the bespoke lux one like Varnabas Musuem hotel.
