A very nice boutique hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The thing that really made the hotel good are the staff who could not have been more helpful or thoughtful up make sure I had a nice stay. As soon as there were any small problems, they ensured a solution was found immediately. The hotel is part of a small complex that has excellent restaurants and interesting shops. The only downside for me was the gym being currently closed for renovations.
We had the best time staying at Baber Mahal Villas. The hotel is part of a complex with many restaurants and shops to explore. All the of the rooms have a unique design and are very comfortable. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They helped us organise an airport transfer and also a driver to take us to the UNESCO sites. We loved it so much this was us returning at the end of our trip. Thank you Baher Villas for a wonderful stay in Kathmandu.
We stayed with Babar Mahal Vilas for few days. The time we arrived at airport, the Mgr of the Hotel, Prabin, already making sure we were well taking care of. The moment we arrived, we are greeted with warmth and welcoming. Prabin was extremely courteous and showed us around the hotel. His staff were very friendly and helpful. Three of us had two rooms. The rooms are very spacious. Sitting room, king size beds, big bathroom and very nice decors. Sometimes it felt like we were in a palace. Prabin upgraded us to the suits and they were Stunning. That was very very nice of him. The amenities are all there. Workout room , swimming pool, shops and restaurants are all within reach. The foods at the restaurants were fantastic and very good. We tried all 5 restaurants in the hotel. The breakfast were delicious. One thing I must mention, the staff at the Vilas were simply wonderful. Felt like family, Rupesh, Meela, Sweety, Minju and many more were so attentive and helpful. They became part of our family. They are special! The Babar Mahal Vilas is the place to stay next time you are in Kathmandu, Nepal. 5 stars all the way!!! Best Regards Koushik, Bob and Kenny…
The Barber Mahal Villas was booked for us as part of a motorcycle tour with a company called 'Two Wheeled expeditions' - see my review on them on Tripadvisor - and from the moment we arrived it was clear that they could not do enough for us. Flight times meant we arrived later than the other members of the group so the staff continued to carry our luggage while another escorted us to the dining room.\ The rooms are old world colonial style, and genuine with it not reproduction, but superbly comfortable. The breakfast was simply wonderful and freshly prepared and the staff are so attentive that the tea cup is never empty. As we were travelling on motorcycle we had suitcases to leave behind and they were collected and locked away before we left and the bag we took with us was whisked away to the support truck before we could even try and lift it. 10 days later we returned and were greeted with 'Welcome home', presented with a Tibetan prayer scarf and adorned with a Hindu chakra on our foreheads. The luggage was in the room before we were BUT once the management learned that my girlfriend and I were the first pillion team that the company had escorted they upgraded us to a suite! Kathmandu is a wonderfully interesting place to visit and this hotel is a great place for a base. I will return and would recommend it to anyone.…
It was a very nice, comfortable and good size room. We used the steam & sauna on a regular basis. They accommodated our various request to full. Really nice management & members of staff. We would prefer to stay here if we had a choice compared to a hotel chain.
Can't recommend this hotel highly enough! It is my GO TO every time I visit Kathmandu, Rooms and bathrooms are spacious , luxurious, clean with super comfy beds and pillows , restaurant is great and room service is available too. House keepers are professional, There's also "evening service" where they come to make sure that everything you need is available and your room is clean and all perfect. You will literally be treated like a royal. The hotel smells good, full of art and beauty wherever you go. Staff are so sweet and professional, special thanks to the hotel manager Mr. prabin, who is always caring and welcoming. And many thanks to all the people working there for the amazing hospitality.
We paid top dollar, over $300/night for an underwhelming experience. Note: you can book the "presidential suite" for less, but my friend booked on a website that charged an extra $50 per night in fees. Nonetheless, at $250 per night, this hotel is expensive for Kathmandu while delivering at best a 3-star experience. The hotel - The hotel appears to have been a beauty at one time, but in present day its best described as shabby and lacking care & maintenance. It needs updating and a good scrub to match the elegant and pristine presentation on the hotel website. The inside of the hotel is DARK throughout, including both of our rooms. The rooms are reasonably clean, but the rugs are dirty --perhaps housekeeping lacks a vacuum cleaner and doesn't take the time to shake them out. The balcony connected to the room was covered with dust and construction debris. Additional failures for a "five star" hotel -- toilet paper dispenser fell apart; paint peeling off the bathroom wall; old bath towels. On a positive note, the hotel has a pleasant library with comfortable seating and lots of books about the region. The hotel site includes several nice shops and an ATM. The food - the hotel breakfast was average and similar to breakfast at lower cost "guest houses" in Kathmandu. The Indian restaurant on site had premium pricing with below average food. The spinach paneer was inedible, and the other dishes were just okay. Service was VERY SLOW for a near empty restaurant with only one other table occupied, as well as a large rat roaming the upper shelves. Stay clear of this place. The location - you'll need to take a taxi to shopping districts like Thamel and tourist sites. There is nothing interesting in walking distance. The service - with the exception of the booking issue, the service was FRIENDLY and HELPFUL. Booking issue - We booked a presidential suite with two beds, however our room only had one bed. We were told the room with two beds went to another customer and there were NO rooms available with two beds. After a lengthy stalemate, my friend offered to pay for a separate room, at which point the manager offered a separate room at no charge. That was the right thing to do and should have happened immediately.…
The staff are gentle, professional, personable, and nothing was too much trouble and the rooms exactly what we were looking for: Authentic, spacious, luxurious and set in the traditional Nepalese culture of yesteryear. We look forward to staying again
Stayed at the Baber Mahal Vilas for the start and end of our tour through Nepal in October. A beautiful oasis in the huzzle and buzzle of Kathmandu. An architectural gem with beautiful, clean rooms, comfortable beds and amazing shower and wet room (the handwash basins are works of art!). There's a nice inner courtyard with a koy pool to sit and relax. Prabin Pudasaini, the General Manager and his entire staff were very welcoming, helpful and proactive when help and local expertise were needed. All were very friendly, patient and very attentive and quietly efficient. They even sourced a local simcard for me. The food, especially breakfast was very good with a great variety. The attention to detail was impressive. Baber Mahal Vilas is the perfect base or springboard for activities in Kathmandu or onward travels in beautiful Nepal. I couldn't think of a better place and unreservedly recommend staying there!…
Baber Mahal Vilas is totally different from any 5 stars hotels in Kathmandu. There is charm and history and all members of the team at all levels are helpful, kind, smiling and proud to be part of the property. The building was a part of the residence of a former prime minister. The place was given back to the family who restored and remodeled it in remembrance of the different traditional architectural styles. It is a kind of elegant complex with some interesting hops and boutiques as well as good restaurants (Chez Caroline and the charming Baithak with very good regional dances some evenings). If you want to have the feeling to travel without sacrificing your comfort, this is definitely the right place. Some will prefer to stay like the major part of travelers in Thamel with its many shops and restaurants but Thamel looks very touristic. However, reaching Thamel from Baber Mahal Vilas is fast. Anyway the points of interest of Kathmandu are dispersed and consequently there is no location really better than another one.…
