I traveled to Khartoum from Amman via Cairo and was pleasantly surprised when I was greeted with a cup of cutting chai once I reached the hotel. They might not be fastest when it comes to service, but if you have been to Khartoum, you...More

Nice hotel, 5-10 mins away from the airport, with good Indian food.
Try taking a room on non smoking floor. Rest is ok.
Staff is also helpful. You can take their help to book a taxi via an app like uber.

You are right. None of the credit cards work anywhere. It is a complete cash economy. The good thing is food is extremely cheap and you should be able to get by an entire day with 40 dollars or less. And that's with having really good food at local restaurants. Just for comparison sake, 4 of us had a great dinner with multiple dishes for less than 40 dollars at one of the better restaurants in Khartoum. Of course this doesn't include food at the extremely high end hotels. And there's no alcohol just FYI. Hope that helps!
