Stayed here for 1 week. If because of the 5 stars they have, you expect a service according to it, then this is not your place. Clearly it is not the Ritz or the Savoy, so look around and realise the city and the country and the culture of any other service. Staffs are serious as policemen, really not keen... More

I have stayed at this hotel twice before as a stopover, before going further north in Mozambique and it was great. The hotel is by no means cheap, but was in the past comfortable. We could have stayed at a number of similar high end hotels for the same price. This time however, 24/12/12, it was a very different story... More

Where to start? 5* it definitely is not, but it is priced that way. Room was small, outdated, smelly, with old furniture; bedsheets were dirty, with some patches of cigarette burn marks. Breakfast/food was dysmal. WIFI was constantly interrupted. Switched to Cardoso after two night, which ended up being cheaper and a much better experience on all accounts.

Others have berated this hotel for being low standard. My experience was very positive. My room was spotless and well equipped. At my request I was given a particularly quiet room which was very peaceful. Wifi and cable internet work, TV has 20 working national and international channels, Wardrobe space was among the best I have experienced in any hotel.... More

My big complaint on my last stay was across-the-board rude service. Happily, that has improved! They have also renovated at least one floor and the room itself was quite nice. All that said, the hotel is grossly over-rated (how in the world did it get assigned five stars?) and expensive for what you get. The first floor is quite nice... More

I have stayed at the VIP hotel on many occasions for business, primarily because my biggest client in Maputo has a "special" arrangement with them. This arrangement appears to be charging ridiculous prices for a below average hotel. The beds are comfortable and the bed linen is clean. Those are the positives. The negatives include: poor service, high prices, average... More

There is nothing 5-star about this hotel. In my opinion, they could be between a 2-3 star hotel, leaning more towards 2 stars. The WIFI did not work and the cellular/3G connection only worked if the unit was placed right next to the window. The room was dirty: stains on the bed, holes in the window blinds, rubbish in the... OK hotel, but definitely not a 5 star, at it claims to be. Room was OK, but worn out. They are renovating at the moment, so hopefully in the future rooms will be of a higher standard. The pool is nice, but the sunchairs belong in a museum, probably haven't been changed since the early 80's... Breakfast was not impressive... More

Stayed there for 2 nights. The hotel is in a great location in the city centre, near the ocean and near some really good restaurants. It is quite a grand hotel, looks great and has good facilities. However the hygiene of the hotel leaves a lot to be desired. The towels were old and dirty, the sheets were stained -... More
