Needs updating including reliable internet (nightmare) but given my stay was in the midst of a period in the country with no government, no traffic lights, and no long-term Prime Minister it is not surprising that no one is focused on this hotel.

I first travelled to Tripoli in 1997. Gadhafi was still evident everywhere and one was under no illusion that you were in a military state. Under the circumstances, the Bab Al Bahr staff were fantastic. The most friendly and welcoming staff. I was made to feel safe and able to plan my travels with plenty of input about local knowledge.

Stayed here for a few days in May 2014. Would not return to this hotel. The room was reasonably clean. The wifi signal in the room was OK. There are a couple of ATM's for cash in the lobby but they are not always in service. No safe in the room. The staff are friendly but the hotel needs a... More

I have stayed in the hotel a few times over the years and only recently has it come anywhere near justifying its price. The lobby has 24 hour security and a small bank which gives great rates on money exchange. If you do stay here try to ask for a city side room if you want a decent phone or... More

It is a very awful & pathetic property in terms of professionalism and service delivery. Located on sea side gives an advantage for the travelers to have a glimpse of sea and enjoy the sea facing rooms. But believe me, this can be good only when you have someone to take care of. Guys at the reception seems to be... More

This government owned hotel is truly awful. From the unsmiling reception staff, very few who can speak English in a supposed 5 star hotel, to the shocking room service it is a disaster. It took 48 hours for them to supply toilet tissue despite being asked on several occasions. The minibar in the room is empty and I eventually had... More

Last time i had been here was 2.5 years age & it was horrible. Now, i was happy to find it recently renewed . Its location is perfect & quite, you're few steps away from Tripoli tower which is a nice shopping center to hangout, few steps away from Dat Elemad 5 towers which are business buildings even western embassies... Its location is better than the other hotels but service quality and hygen is terrible. I suggest Hotel Cairo. Its at the city center, close to the green spuare. Good staff nice service. 10 rooms small hotel but better than the 5 stars and the others. Go there!

PROs. Nice sea view, spacious rooms, TV works, buffet meals so you do not have to wait, price is relatively cheap (150LDY = $120/night) - but poor value compared to the high overpriced alternatives in the city. CONs. Unprofessional, inefficient and slow reception and checkin, and they insist on that you pay nearly all the stay in advance (if you... More

I spent 3 days in the Bab Al Bahr hotel in Tripoli between September 3-6 2012. I could recommend the hotel placed on the sea side for business travelers without special expectations. Compared to the price and other alternatives you can get in Tripoli, Bab Al Bahr is a good solution. The rooms are acceptably clean and relatively large, half... More
