My wife and I stayed 7 nights, arriving at 6PM by taxi(2000 escudos) from the RAI Airport. Two welcoming English speaking receptionists copied passports, verified our reservation, provided inter island flight info and issued our key cards. We took the elevator up one floor to room #305 with a comfortable king, bathroom with a tiled shower/separate toilet room with very loud squeaky door, central AC and an opening window with a view of the Atlantic surf. Nice TV with CNN in English(for the 1st 5 days only), good room wifi and a relaxed 7AM breakfast run by an overworked chef, server and room number taker; all food groups were included with fresh fruit and an on-request omelet station. We walked to the adjoining shopping center to its well stocked mini market on the lower level, pastelaria on the restaurant level and used its large complimentary gym. We did not use the 7th floor plunge pool/bar with its encompassing view. Taxis(200 escudos) were always available to the Praia plateau and 1000 escudos back to the airport. …
This is a good hotel close to a beach and a number of restaurants and a mall. The room was comfortable, large, clean and with a great view. Breakfast was good and the hotel staff was professional and friendly. Suggestion for improvement: It would be good to have more towels in the room.
Stayed for 2 nights in this hotel. I had everything that e needed in the room, and bed was really confortable. The best part was the pool and the staff that works there. I do recommenIt's close to restaurants and a beautiful beach nearby.
Recently stayed here for two nights. A/C very poor and room small. I would give this hotel 2-3 stars being generous. Stayed in Cape Verde before and don’t expect much but when advertising a 4 star hotel is expect better. No mini bar either. AVOID!
I gave high ratings only because of the service The rooms were average for price charged The showers had Low pressure and warm water took ages to arrive The toilet door was heavy noisy and clunky Housekeeping was spotty - we get 1 towel even though there’s 2 of us in the room and no refill of bath gel Aircon was really hot even though we put at 18 degrees Breakfast was the same for 3 days - mushrooms, baked beans, bacon etc But the service was awesome Friendly attentive and smiley all around Rooftop pool was nice. Good location next to the shopping mall and beach
My wife and I are celebrating 21 years of marriage. We are at the VIP Praia Hotel. Just finished breakfast and we had a wonderful one. There is no way someone could be critical of it, unless it is a setup! Omelet is made upon request. All kind of fruits (from the local bananas to pear, apples, grapes, papaya, pineapple, peach, kiwi, more than a dozen kind of fruit!!!) The gorgeous view is second to none, the place is CLEAN, neat and modern. Let me put this way: I got a room for a friend that does missionary work here, for one night. After a few hours at the hotel, his request: "if you let me stay another night here, I will stay doing my work for another 2 years!" The place for sure is awesome, the best gym in the city with an ocean view, great perks like 50% discount on the local cinema, name it, VIP Praia Hotel has to offer and that made my wife and I, as well our 3 teenager children, very happy to be here and celebrate this especial date for us!!! Looking forward to come back...…
Absolutely terrible! If there was a way to give negative stars this place would earn them, where to start..... - Breakfast starts at 0630, it is never ready and the selection is questionable. The food is old or from the night before and all of the liquids are warm. Use a refrigerator! - Beds are more like box springs and not mattresses. - Showers “open concept” is a huge fail! If someone opens the door to the room there you are showering in front of everyone. - Customer service throughout the hotel is the worst I have ever experienced. Most just look at you and nod and tell you ok but nothing is ever taken care of and you have to follow up constantly until you get something close to what you ask for. - Just because it’s close to “shopping” don’t take the bait! This means it’s much more loud at night. The small restaurants play music very loud until 10-11pm most nights so if you value quietness don’t come here. Overall there is really no redeeming values to this hotel. Very much in the top 3 of most horrible hotels I have stayed in throughout my travels around the world.…
Right by the shopping center, if you feel like roaming around, taxis are to be found readily, but if you feel like visiting the other side of the island, you might rent a car. I was there for work, and the Hotel VIP Praia was just what I needed.
Stayed there during the 2nd weekend of april. PROS:location, right next to the beach. seconds away. MALL, movie theater, great GYM breakfast, WIFI, rooftop pool, great view, ROOMS are nice. HOT water works BUT you have to take a quick shower, otherwise you'll run out of hot water. UNLIKE in US where you're charged per night regardless of attendees, IN CV they add $40 more per person. hallways have this dark actually black color on the wall. Should be brighter. CONS: THEY GIVE YOU ONE KEY CARD. Ridiculous if they are charging for two people. you have to demand. roof top drinks are not cheap. i ordered a gin/tonic and it came out about $9 or 800 escudo. Cheap if you're comparing with US prices but for CV it's expensive. ROOM ocean views (not really ocean view) TRUST ME. They need to clean their windows. it's dirty. as far as location goes, next time i'll probably stay somewhere in PLATEU, where you can interact with the locals (the whole point). If you don't want to see people and be left alone then this hotel along with OASIS are a good fit.…
I went there endoresed by a friend. As usual I did not book in advance --even my Dakar-Praia flight was bought last minute in Dakar's airport. BAR for a walk-in was ridicoulsy expensive (more than EUR 100 per night when my friend paid EUR 50 booking through on a OTA). But I was so tired that I stayed anyway. Facilities are nice. I have been in better hotels for similar rates, (if I would have paid EUR 50, then I would say the hotel is fantastic, but that is not their fault). Yet pretty good facilities. Nice room, good enough bathroom, gym, and infinity pool on the rooftop. I acuatlly spent an entire afternoon on the rooftop while I waited for the heat to waive. The rooftop bar was not expensive. Friendly staff and the best: real free wifi in all the hotel. There is a mall next door and a a little little creek --not nice by the way. My room had seaviews, but they were not worth the extre EUR 8 I paid as to be honest. Abundant breakfast with plenty of choice --normal in these kind of hotels, but a surprise while in Africa. The only con was the hotel location. Despite the mall and the creek, it is quite far from downtown. You cannot get there on foot, no matter what. Taxi fare is CVE 200, though (EUR 2), so no big deal. Taxi fare from the airport is CVE 15k (EUR 15).…
